If you are in Woodbury, you definitely should get John to look at your work because his business is in Woodbury. I confirmed he is licensed, bonded and insured. I am very pleased with my work--see below.He recently ran a 240 v dedicated line from breaker box to plug so I could replace my 8 year old gas range after I found it was the source of a high CO alarm.John was upfront about the costs and complications of the newer townhomes and how difficult they can be to run lines between floors. His original estimate to run a 240v dedicated line from breaker box to plug was near the final cost to install this line. I also added 4 ceiling lights (with dimmer) in my living room and moved the kitchen table light to be centered over my table.John had to come 3 different days to my house to complete the work and I learned a lot about why I would hire him again.-He comes from a family of electricians. He knows the standards inside and out.-He worked well with the city of Woodbury. He got the permit, and the inspection of the work set up and completed.- John is passionate about the quality of his work and was tenacious at finding solutions that limited damage to my ceilings and townhome. Fishing new wire across 40+ feet of narrow townhome ceiling takes lots of patience but also knowing --without seeing--what could possibly be in that ceiling. John has done so much of this kind of work, he understands how old and new homes/townhomes are built and what is likely in the ceiling. To complete all my work, he only made a 2x 3 cut in my ceiling. AWESOME.-Moreover, when my new slide in range kept tripping the GFI, John tried several different things to determine the source of the trips. John stuck with this job to the bitter end to make sure I had a range that worked.-John and his wife Connie (his helper) are very kind and made this painful work very pleasurable. And it really helps to know how good my range looks and that my living room will be bright all winter.John is busy and does not have to take jobs at this point in his career. My work was not cheap, but my brother is an electrician and warned me about the costs because I am paying for his insurance, bonding, truck, driving time to the job, driving time back and forth to supply houses and then the actual work too.You have to be willing to work with Johns schedule and realize there could be a few days between job start and job finish, based upon his schedule.

I’ve just discovered a treasure in John and Connie Kivel of John Kivel Electric! I had several electrical projects in mind for my new home. The first electrician I called fixed a few things but then disappeared. After 6-8 weeks, a couple of my issues had become more pressing. That’s when I found John. He and his wife/partner Connie were at my door within an hour and quickly solved my immediate problems. We agreed to continue working on the rest after my incoming house guests left. However, just 2 days before they arrived, a rainstorm knocked out my outdoor power. I called John & Connie and caught them as they were preparing to leave town. Again, within an hour, they arrived on my doorstep. John quickly located the problem and fixed it. Right after they left, I remembered I’d blown a fuse when I was trying to fix the problem myself, and my guest rooms had no power. I called John and he was able to tell me how to correct that over the phone! John’s electrical expertise is apparent. What makes John Kivel Electric really special to me is their availability, responsiveness, understanding, and wide range of experience. I learned a lot about my new home in talking with John and Connie. They explain things clearly and offer much appreciated cost & energy effective suggestions. They’re genuinely friendly and caring - and they’re fun people. I feel like I’ve found an exceptional electrician and a couple of great new friends.

I called John and explained that I had two outlets next to each other in my basement that suddenly stopped working, but none of my circuits were tripped, and I thought I had checked every GFCI outlet in the house. I was ready to have John come out to my house and charge me for whatever service was necessary. Instead, John asked me if I had checked some places that I did not think of for other GFCI outlets, such as on an outlet on the outside of the house or in the garage. Sure enough, I went in my backyard and on the back of the house an outside outlet was a GFCI and it was tripped. I reset it and my two outlets in the basement are now working again. Thank you again John, for being a good neighbor, and helping me solve my problem over the phone. This is how you build trust with a customer for a future business relationship. I will definitely call John Kivel Electric the next time I need an electrician.

I had a disabled friend in Cottage Grove with an urgent situation when his entire house power went out. Electricity company and their electrician said that the main panel would need to be replaced. I called John and he was at my friend’s house within 30 minutes. He performed a step by step check of the entire system and determined it was only some type of power surge that tripped the main breaker (maybe lightning). He made sure to explain all that he did and what was going on. No repair required. Super nice to my friend and his wife! 3rd generation electrician. Call him if you want great service!

We had two dead outlets and couldnt figure out why they werent working. I called John and he was out of town, so he tried to help me over the phone to reset the outlets. He also told me to call him back if I couldnt get the outlets working, which reflected sincerity and generosity on his end as a business. Although we werent able to get our outlet working again and will have to have an electrician come out to our home, were still so grateful that John stayed on the phone with us until our outlets were reset and we were sure that nothing would help! I called John to install an outdoor motion sensor light. I had already received 2 bids from 2 other companies, but wanted to get a 3rd. John and Connie arrived in the morning to discuss the install. John listened to what I wanted, but was able to provide me with a more logical solution for my install. I was amazed that no one else recommended this from the previous 2 bids. This not only saved John time, but it also saved me money. He was also able to avoid any damage to the inside or outside walls that the previous contractors said I would need to patch. John was actually able to complete the job for less than he originally quoted me. Its rare nowadays to have someone pass the savings onto the customer. They also took time to find out what switches worked for the light. Within 1 day of my call, he quoted the job, and the next day he was on site and done within 2 hours.Because of Johns quick and superb service, we had a brand new outlet in our basement for our electric dryer, and for less than half of what we were going to spend on a gas dryer, never mind having a plumber come out to re-do the gas line.Watt are you waiting for? We have found our Electrician in Woodbury!!! I was having a problem with another electrical company which wanted $570 to do a diagnostic on an outlet failure problem in the lower level of our home. I explained the problem to John on the phone, he quoted me a price for his service call and said he was sure he could fix the problem quickly and if he couldnt he would quote a price for any additional repairs. I said great and to my surprise he and his lovely wife showed up at our home that very same evening. They both did not waste any time getting down to business. Long story short, within 20 minutes he found and repaired the problem. This was our first experience with John Kivel Electric but believe me, should we have any more electrical problems it will be John that we call. Hes honest, straight forward and he does what he says hell do.

I called and spoke with John on the telephone one morning. I described the problem and sent him photos of the problem areas. He called a few hours later and told me he would be able to come to my home by 11:00am. He arrived with his wife , determined the problem within a few minutes, repaired the problem, made some improvement suggestions, and took the time to examine the electrical panel. He saved me thousands of dollars in just one visit! (another company told me that I would need to change out the entire electric panel). I was very impressed with Johns professionalism and his wifes helpfulness. I have a new electrician!

We had a large heavy light fixture that was falling out of a 17 foot vaulted ceiling. I needed it fixed fast before it fell and hurt someone and I didnt think I could handle that myself. Luckily my Google search led me to John. He was able to come out quickly and got everything fixed for a fair price. It didnt go perfectly and I think most electricians would have given up and told us to buy a new fixture but John was able to fix our slightly broken one and put it back up saving us hundreds! And it looks good as new. Really nice to have someone you can trust and call on for the tough jobs. Thanks John!

I had the power lines coming from the pole to the house weighed down by vines growing from the house . I called Excell and they told me the the repair was my responsibility but did not instill a sense of urgency. I called John’s company and spoke to his wife and she told me when he would be in touch . He called when he said he would. I sent him some pictures and he quoted me a price.He showed up when he said he would and looked at what was going on and shared his grave concerns about the situation. We agreed on an increase to his quote and he performed the work quickly and well .Very professional and expedient. 5 stars . I would recommend him to anyone.

I could not be happier with the service from John Kivel. I had mistakenly used Home Advisor to get an electrician and on the day of the service at the time the service was to happen, HomeAdvisor sent me an email saying they couldn’t get anyone to do the job!!!I was in a panic so I looked on my next-door neighbor app and found John Kivel electric recommended by others. I called the number listed and reach Johns lovely wife Connie. I told them my dilemma and they came out within a couple of hours. John told me what it would cost and set up an appointment for the very next day (today). They just finished their work here and I could not be more pleased. We will definitely use them again!

Just recently I bought a house and called him to come in and do wiring for new appliances, add lighting in the basement, and create a dedicated circuit for the microwave. He was quick to respond, did the work fast, left the area clean, and he listened to me, which seems to be rarer and rarer these days. I would never hire anyone else to work on my home electric.

Suffered a power outage after a bolt of lightning struck my house. Switches tripped, but a bad arc was causing a portion of my house to remain without power. Thankfully John and Connie were quick to arrive, inspect my switches, inspect my house, and fix it in no time at all. Excellent service all around. I had a problem with an ARC breaker that had tripped and wouldnt allow me to reset it. Wasnt sure what an ARC breaker was as opposed to a regular breaker so I thought I better have an electrician look at it. Started looking for and electrician at 3pm, called John Kivel about 3:30pm. He was on another job in my community but said he would be done soon and could stop by my house on his way home. John came by and diagnosed the problem (faulty ARC breaker) and replaced the breaker and was all done by 5:45pm. I would say that was prompt service and I am very satisfied with the outcome!
