    Nick Herndon did a fantastic job diagnosing a profusely leaky shower fixture. We had to turn the water off to the whole house as there was no local shutoff valve. He arrived promptly within the window he committed, diagnosed the issue quickly, and provided a clear explanation of my options, and a cost effective way to resolve the issue. I will definitely consider Nick and James A. Wheat & Sons for future jobs.

    We had a full HVAC replacement carried out by James A. Wheat last month and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Caleb was their lead technician and spent a lot of time explaining things, reporting progress, helping understand the cost structure and anything my wife and I needed to go through. We couldn’t say enough good things about Caleb! The implementation was done professionally and on time. Even when there was a minor fumble in the understanding of what prep work was to be done by another contractor, the James A Wheat team managed to plug the gap without delay. The company delivers great value for the price it charges and we intend to use it for our future needs as well.

    We have relied on James Wheat since 2008 when a good friend told us they’re good and they won’t rip you off. That’s true! They are experts at hvac and plumbing and are constantly training new folks. Even when an original technician couldn’t get the job done right, they sent an expert who did fix a difficult issue. All of the technicians over the years have been polite and courteous.

    I have a plumbing maintenance plan with James A. Wheat. Yesterday proved that it is well worth the money. I called for service at 9 am for a jammed garbage disposal. The technician showed up at 12 pm and by 1: 30 the job was completed, and I had a new garbage disposal. Now that is great service!The technician, Matt Price, was just great. He investigated the problem and presented options and implications for trying to unjam the disposal or replacing it. I felt well informed of the options and chose replacement. Matt had a replacement on his truck and efficiently and neatly installed a new one.I really appreciate the great service and a technician that was knowledgeable, experienced, professional but also personable. So far all of the James A. Wheat plumbers have been like Matt. I highly recommend the company and the maintenance plan.

    Nick works miracles! I was just about ready to give up on the master bathroom and on JAW&S after two plumbers came out to clear a clog, which began impacting a hall bathroom too, to no avail. Specifically asked for Nick the third time, knowing hes the senior tech. He brought all the right tools, the first time!, diagnosed and cleared the clog (not without a significant fight, too), and weve had no issues since! Thank you, Nick!

    I was beside myself when all the water in my house stopped running! Because of the nature of my job, I needed a great quality plumber as soon as possible! What a daunting task! But I called James A. Wheat and was assured someone would come within hours! Charles arrived early, and was confident and friendly. He quickly diagnosed the issue and got down to work. Before I knew it, he completed the work and made it look easy! I didnt have time to price with different companies how much they would charge under the same circumstances, so cant speak to accuracy of the estimate.     I had an emergency gas leak and James A Wheat and Sons was able to come out within a couple of hours to assess it. The plumber was Nicholas Herndon and he was really excellent!! He was extremely competent and efficient but also a really nice person. He found an additional water leak at the main house valve so came back the next day to repair both leaks and replace the expansion tank on our gas water heater. I will definitely use this company again and specifically recommend Nick!

    We had a brand new furnace and air conditioning unit installed by them in two days. Tyler, Garrett and Rey did a wonderful job. They removed the old units and installed the new ones carefully and without any issues or damage to the house. Tyler was very patient with us and took extra time explaining how to use the high-tech thermostat. We would highly recommend this company.

    We had a gas emergency. It turned out to be pretty serious. It happened just as I was leaving town but James Wheat and Sons really came through. Their method of communication is to send you a photo and introduction to technician which makes everyone feel safer. They were able to complete the job the day after I called them.

    Tommy and his assistant were prompt and professional in the removal of my old water heater and installation of the new one. Great service. They piped the condensate pipe from my new hybrid water heater into my home’s drain system so hopefully the maintenance should be for me to clean the air filter periodically. Very neat fit and finish.

    The diagnosis, work scoping process were very thorough, logistics were well considered, and the installation crew who then executed on the work, led by Peter, prepped and were intentional and thorough during this entire process. Having worked with HVAC and plumbing contractors in the past, JAWS really stood out above the rest- there is a stark difference between the others and JAWS’ experience that they brought to bear. When opening up an old system, they discovered and informed me of what was found (an improperly installed lineset that caused underperformance of the old system), and were transparent and educational about what they are putting into the new system. Working attitude is superb, guaranteed top workmanship, they do things to-code, do not cut corners, and placement of the new system considers any future maintenance accessibility (this is something not many trades do, and should ALWAYS be focused on). They deliver very high value and the crew displays tremendous ownership over the work that they do.

    Nick & his helpers very professionally accomplished 6 different plumbing tasks in our 108 year-old townhome on Capitol Hill in one short day, including two tasks that involved significant diagnostic work.     Jacob Wharton (with his trainee Diego) performed a seasonal check-up on my heating system, a Weil McLain hot water boiler and cast iron radiators throughout my 2-story house. Wheat installed the boiler 4 years ago. Jacob put on floor-protective shoe covers without my asking. I watched him do the work because I sometimes have questions to better understand and operate my system, and be alert for problems. Jacob was professional, thorough, used his tablet and diagnostic tools and gauges with sureness to check and record the readings, and he answered my questions. He checked my radiators without spilling water from the bleeder valves or staining the walls, drapes or curtains. He worked promptly and there was no mess. He is business-like, courteous and professional. At $250 Wheat is by no means the least expensive company to check my system, but their technician was completely familiar with my equipment and thorough in his check-up. I would continue using them and recommend them for inspections for the kind of system I have. IL, Bethesda.

    This is the second time that the technician Isak Waktola service both my properties on AC/Heating units . He has done a great job on both. I like it this he is skilled and explains to me in detail what’s wrong/right . How he goes over the units throughly.     I chose them over another plumbing company even if they charged $900 more. When the estimate was done Tyler and team were very professional and I appreciate that they followed infection control precautions including wearing shoe covers. During installation the team who worked on the submeter was Cody’s team. They did a good job however I found out later that they left a dent on the top portion of my laundry washer. It appeared as if a heavy tool was dropped on top of it. I called and the Office Manager told me she will investigate and that I will have a response the next day. Over two weeks have passed and I have not heard anything. I was not asking for a new dryer. It would have been as simple as acknowledging that the dent was caused by their crew. Or better send someone to fix it?I know things like this happen - I am not sure if I will recommend them to others after this experience. 🥺🤔😩BUT........Just to update this review - the laundry washers dented top was finally replaced with a new one. Vince did a great job. So overall, they technicians were awesome - just remember to be careful moving forward !!!

    On Thursday morning, I found the outside basement drain overflowing and seeping into the basement. I tried several plumbers with no success. I called James A. Wheat & Sons and found a very understanding woman on the other end of the phone. Within an hour of calling, Nicholas was starting work to solve my problem. I have had this drain snaked 2 other times over 39 years but this third time was impressive. Instead of just jumping in, Nicholas tried to first determine the extent of the problem - both sides of the house or just the plumbing on the back side of the house. He explained what he was doing and why. He then evaluated the cost. In the extreme heat, he was working in the sun clearing the drain and cleaning up afterwards. He was very respectful to me and my property. He worked diligently and with profesionalism. Very positively impressed and will definitely call again should new issues in an older home come up in the future.

    Jame A Wheat & Sons does consistent, quality work with highly trained and professional technicians. Richard Pedroza conducted an Eagle contract maintenance check and did excellent work to have the air conditioning running optimally and to provide an estimate for a replacement of an 18 year old furnace. Yesterday, Elik Hernandez Bonilla installed the new furnace, air filter and humidifier at an affordable price. Elik consulted me as the installation occurred to be sure I was aware of any minor changes from the original estimate and and as they completed the work. They left the area cleaner than it was when they arrived and the care they took is evident. Much thanks for a job well done.

The team from James A Wheat were great to work with and took good care of our house. They figured out a way to fix the pipe without having to remove some of the vintage tile in our bathroom, they were very clean and friendly and did a great job. Definitely recommend.

    The technician Nick found an innovative solution to a problem by rerouting a water line to install a new hose bibb avoiding a conflict with a new renovation design in progress. Quote was honest and fair and I feel that I received added value in the solution outcome. I purchased a membership which comes with an bi-annual PM inspection. Perfect for older homes on well systems. This was the second job Wheaton performed for me. Highly recommend.

    Our AC failed with a predicted 105 degree heat index in the forecast. Wheat was able to come out on short notice. They clearly communicate the arrival.     We had two plumbing issues that happened nearly simultaneously, but were fixed in a very timely manner, and one was much more involved than the other. I had called Wheat in years past and was impressed by their admin people who handled initial calls and even on weekends as a call back occurred quickly on a weekend. Our plumber and assistant today were great. Communicated the issues and recommendations well and got the job done with expertise. We are happy and recommend this service.

    Today was the annual service for our heat pump with oil furnace backup. One thing that is great about this company is that they give a half-hour window for the appointment, not four hours like some companies. The tech (Esok) was on time, wore protective booties, and spent considerable time doing a thorough servicing. He had to go to some effort to get an admin code to change a setting and was very patient about that. He was personable and polite.My only concern was that their estimate for new air filter media was $580 for a pack of two, whereas the same is $100 on Amazon. That seems an unreasonable markup. They are easy to install.

    Just want to start off saying that I thought the guy that came out did an excellent job. I have an injured shoulder and could not physically replace a broken garbage disposal and everything with the replacement went smoothly. I have no complaints with the work done.My main issue is that the cost of the repair was exorbitant at over $1400 for a disposal that is not even top of the line. This was not a replacement that required anything big like redoing plumbing, and after talking to people after the fact, the consensus was the price was excessive. It is my fault for not doing research, but when I asked another local plumber what they would have charged, it was a good bit less than half the cost. I also could not get an estimate range for a standard garbage disposal replacement over the phone, which I thought was standard practice but now know that is not the case.I was also asked about options to replace the p-trap which was having no issues and looked fine when I took it apart. This was another several hundred dollars on top and after repeatedly asking why I would need this or if it was beneficial, I was told that it was not necessary and that they have to ask about it.Maybe their prices are more reasonable for other things, but at least for me the pricing and upselling I experienced is enough for me to go with someone else when something comes up.EDIT:After writing the review, the company called me in addition to the below response. They are correct that the price was $1205, as there was an added membership that I did not account for when looking at my credit card statement. They explained their reasoning and acted amicably while trying to make things right.I would like to repeat that the job was done well, and I agree with the person I talked to that a good job and a responsive company is worth the price.     Last week we were in the unenviable position of having to replace both our furnace and air conditioning system. We called on the professionals from James A Wheat & Sons to replace our entire system with the newest Daikin units. The major job which we thought would take 2 or 3 days to complete was done in one long day by the Wheat team. Led by Peter Gahles and Andres Valencia with the help of Caleb, Garret, Berha and Axel, they removed our old units and custom installed new units with a new air filtration system. They also cleaned all our air ducts—and completed everything in one day. They did a great job and we did not have to spend any nights without air conditioning. In addition to the field installation team, the effort was coordinated by Ben and Darlene in the home office and the follow up adjustments were performed by Bao and Devon. A very impressive team effort!We have been customers of James A Wheat for almost 15 years and they have always given us great service, but installing a complicated complete system in one day was amazing.     I contacted J.A. Wheat and Sons originally for an estimate to replace a gas boiler but during the visit the technician noticed a leak of the main water service before the meter. This was an unexpected finding and luckily the technician was also a plumber who immediately explained to me and my husband what the problem might be, especially given the age of our house (1940) with original plumbing in some parts of the house. We ended up having a water service replacement. Job initiated the very next day. Nick H. was the technician who was also the lead overseeing the project. By Day 4, after passing inspection, the crew filled in any holes dugged, including the foundation in my basement which was cemented over. He knew exactly where to install the gas pipe cutoff. He undertook the work and finished it within a couple of hours. We knew he was skilled and creative, and that the installation required that he work with a 65 year old set of metal cabinets in a house of the same age.     I’ve used James A Wheat for both my HVAC and plumbing needs. They always diagnose a problem correctly and are efficient in their work. Case in point. Yesterday Nick came to my house and installed a new sump pump and check valve, flushed and cleaned my hot water heater, replaced an expansion tank, and replaced parts to a kitchen faucet.     Gas Fireplace Repair - The service was very good but we were initially charged the wrong price by the service tech who as a fairly new employee. Once we called the office, Michael Wheat responded within an hour and sent us the correct billing and processed the credit the same day. The whole experience with the service tech and Michael was very professional and if it had not been Christmas week, the techs supervisor would have corrected the charge before our call. I would recommend the $300 annual service fee for a gas fireplace repair as will include your service that day to clean/refurbish your gas fireplace. If you so need a new remote/receiver, as we did, that will be an extra charge. If you are handy, you can by the receiver/remote online. We are enjoying having our two gas fireplaces now working again.

    I called to get my gas fireplace inspected and to solve a problem, the fire logs would sometimes turn on by themselves. I contacted James A Wheat because I wanted a reputable company with trained staff. I am so glad that I did. The technician and assistant arrived on time and were very professional and courteous. Upon inspection, they discovered the remote and associated wiring was not working properly. They quoted me a fair price which I accepted. They cleaned and rebuilt the fire logs. The fire logs look like new and the new remote functions great. I am very pleased with the service and the cost. 5 stars.

    Weve been using the services of James A Wheat and Sons since we purchased our house in 2018. They have removed an old oil tank, maintained our boiler/furnace and AC every year keeping us comfortable. This year we had them replace our aging AC unit with a new Carrier system.     Our heat stopped working the Monday after Thanksgiving--just in time for the holidays! Weve used James A. Wheat a number of times before, for more modest issues, and so we called them again. Given the timing, they had a lot of appointments booked for the coming week already, but they worked to help us move up in the line given the total lack of heat. At first it was going to be a week before we could get a tech, but we ended up getting an appointment within 3 days of our first call.Our tech was Isak Waktola and it was a pleasure working with him. He was able to identify the issue quickly--it couldnt have been much more than 20 minutes--as the induction motor. Due to the need to order the part from the manufacturer, we scheduled an install for the following Thursday. Unfortunately, and through no fault of James A. Wheat, the part took longer to arrive than expected. James A. Wheat did a great job keeping me advised of the shipping status; when it became clear it wasnt going to arrive until late Friday, they made arrangements for a Saturday morning installation. Isak took care of that, and was again the model of efficiency--the heat was back up and running within half an hour of his arrival and has been fine ever since.We are now in the process of figuring out our options to replace the entire HVAC and are planning to use James A. Wheat again. Theyve even indicated well be able to get some credit for the cost of the induction motor as part of the deal.All in all, Wheat made this as straightforward an experience as it could have been under the circumstances, and Isak was, again, a pleasure to speak and work with.

    We had a water heater leak and another leak that needed to be found. I made an appointment online but the staff called to schedule me earlier based on the problems. The plumbers were knowledgeable and efficient. I got a new tank (I knew that was going to be needed based on the age) the same day as the visit.     Charles - the service person - came immediately after he called planning for the service visit. He was professional, polite, and most of all - very knowledgeable! I had called James Wheat and Sons for a possible well pump replacement. Charles opened the well cap and did a brief inspection and then asked to take a look at the electrical breaker box and at the receiving water tank inside. We had been experiencing very low water pressure and the well pump was suspected but upon Charles inspection of the neutralizing system he concluded that that was the problem and not the pump. Charles very carefully and knowledgeably disassembled the electrical and mechanical assembly driving the neutralizing tank and tried several times to repair but finally concluded that something was wrong inside the tank and advised that it needed replacement - which I have agreed to have him do. Throughout his repair analysis and work I was extremely impressed at how much he was capable and able to proceed with his analysis of problems - not only of the possible failing well pump but with all aspects of my neutralizing system! I give Charles an A+ for his analysis and work! Couldnt have asked for anything further! Well done, Charles!

    Clifford the Technician for James A Wheat and Sons, Inc arrived promptly. He listened politely and professionally assessed our problem with the broken gas service line due to the tree fall. He noted that he had not previously seen such a gas pipe break and his company could not repair the damage because the pipe was the responsibility of the Gas company. He also noted that the House gas pipe looked fine but that the Gas company may require the House gas pipe be tested once the break is repaired. He later kindly contacted that gas company on our behalf to describe the gas pipe break and to request the GAs company to repair the pipe.repaired.     We chose James A Wheat to install a new gas fireplace in our historic Rockville home after three months of research, conducting interviews and getting quotes from five competitors. It was a big multi day job that required pulling a permit, installation of a new gas line from the meter, drilling through the 130 year old original foundation of our house, running a gas line across the entire length of the basement and into a nearly 100 year old crawl space, up through the floor of our 130 year old fireplace, and setting up a vent free gas log set. So we needed a contractor that we could trust to get the job done properly and safely and not mess up our house.What sealed the deal for me personally is that the representatives from James Wheat did not try to BS me like a few of the other contractors that visited our house. They were upfront with me if they didn’t know something, asked questions about the property, and were respectful with adherence with COVID protocols.We purchased the log set ourselves due to delays in getting the one we needed from Wheat but it wasn’t a problem.Our historic fireplace looks beautiful with the gas fireplace in it and we are very pleased with the functionality and aesthetics of our new gas logs.We recommend this company!

    After 17 years in our home, it was time to replace all our HVAC systems, water heaters, and ductless heating/cooling systems. Plus, we upgraded our basement apartment which added a second HVAC system and Water Heater.With a job this large we took multiple bids and reviewed each submitter. We selected Wheat and sons for two reasons. First, their reviews were positive and other reviewers found them responsive, professional, and provided good quality at a reasonable price.Second, when the Wheat representative showed up, I told him what equipment we were looking to replace. However, the rep was more interested in providing solutions and not equipment. He asked to come back the next week and brought two company experts to review our situation. After a 60-minute consultation, I felt confident that what we would purchase would give us a long-term solution to our heating and, air conditioning needs. No other company that came out took that amount of time to make sure what we were purchasing would work for us.Working with the office staff, I scheduled the installation which included the use of a crane from a private company. The office staff coordinated everyone involved.The ductless splits were installed in week one and the larger equipment was scheduled for week two. I was impressed by the week one crew and asked that they would be used for the second weeks work. The office staff accommodated the request.The second week went well and finished on time. The installation crew continued to do excellent work and kept disruption to a minimum.A month after installation, one of the water heaters stopped functioning. Late on a Sunday night, I texted our original Wheat representative about the problem. He responded and the office staff was alerted to the problem. Monday a technician was dispatched and found a blown fuse. He did not have a replacement in his truck. So, he left our home, drove 12 miles round trip to purchase a fuse replacement.Problems do happen and a company response, post-payment, and a month after installation, is a test of their quality and professionalism. Everyone at Wheat and Sons, from the sales representative, the visiting experts, the technicians, and the office staff gave all aspects, from initial meetings, scheduling, installation, and then a quick repair, their full attention.Another pleasant surprise was that the office staff made me aware of rebates and handled all the forms and interactions. The agencies they dealt with have notified me that the rebates have been issued.I was and still am impressed with all of the employees at Wheat, the new equipment, and the quality and pricing. The five-star rating is well deserved.

    Tommy from James A. Wheat arrived early which was great and fixed both of my plumbing needs. The toilet wouldnt flush properly. He quickly identified the problem, replaced the part and now its flushing perfectly. Same goes for the drainage problem under our 3-bay sink. He identified the broken part and promptly replaced it. I love James A. Wheat and will always use their services for my plumbing and HVAC needs.

    Wheat & Sons were able to respond faster than anyone else to my problem. Leaky toilet die to broken flange. Im willing to replace a wax ring but the flange was beyond me. I cant speak as to price because I was desperate and time was more important but the plumber that came out was very professional. He was courteous and knowledgeable and kept me informed all the was through the process. He worked hard and cleaned up well and I know have a functioning toilet.
