I feel that we lucked out in finding Greater Portland electric to do our electrical project. Ethan came to talk over what we wanted to do and in addition came up with some alternative suggestions that not only saved us money but would be more beneficial in the long run. Greater Portland electric did a great job of quickly replying to me about the work I needed done, and when their electrician came out, he was very open and honest without being pushy about the condition of the old cloth wiring. He made sure I knew the relative risk level involved in keeping the wiring in place, and what a safe load on the wires would be until I got the house re-wired. He didn’t try to upsell on anything unnecessary, and wanted to be sure that I got exactly what I wanted for outlets and lighting so there wouldn’t be any surprise additions to my quote.

Great work at our house. Skylights were installed and power cable to outlet were in the way in the ceiling and had to be relocated . Technician was in the area, came within the hour and relocated the wire. Great work! We were so happy and appreciative that the technician was able to come out the same day and within the hour. This is only the 2nd time I’ve ever felt compelled to leave a review for a business online. I had 2 small electrical issues I needed help with, and Ethan was able to take care of them the same week I called. He is honest, refreshingly direct (without being impolite), hardworking, experienced, and knowledgeable. And above all, he is truly kind. I’m a young, new homeowner without much experience. Rather than trying to take advantage of me, he spent the whole time he was working giving me free tips and useful advice for future projects. He went out of his way to help me with a third issue I didn’t yet have a plan for, and fixed that too. The pricing was reasonable, even with one of the jobs being significantly more difficult than either of us expected. Ethan is a rare person who does more than the bare minimum without being asked and seems to take pride in the quality of his work. Would definitely recommend working with Greater Portland Electric, and I look forward to working him again when I have future electrical needs.

Ethan Bixler, owner of Greater Portland Electric, is the real deal! He is one of those rare people in this profession who does truly good work, who really cares about what he does, and absolutely wants his customers to be happy when the job is finished.I do not usually write reviews or associate my name with other people’s work but in this case, I wanted to share my experience working with Ethan, as I hope it helps others looking for electrical services to feel confident in their choice. There are three things I look for in a good electrician (or any trades-person who is coming into my house). A person who: (1) does quality work, (2) does it at a fair price, and (3) does it reliably and on-time.Ethan (and his company) excel at all of these and is also just a really nice guy. He is transparent about what he can and cannot do, is proud of his work, and is trustworthy enough that I am fine with him having the security code to my house (not something I would give to most people). When I bought a new refrigerator, it kept tripping another kitchen GFCI and shutting down. I needed an electrician to come fast while my food was thawing out. The first company I called wanted to charge me $260 just to show up as a same day emergency repair. Then I called Ethan, and he came out later that day, replaced the outlet that was tripping, and was way more reasonably priced. He was friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and great value.

Five stars for Ethan and Greater Portland Electric! I called CMP to come out and check to make sure everything was running well on their end of the meter. Technician takes the meter off and immediately diagnoses the need to replace entire meter box and will not reconnect me to power (which was also the right call to do). I had to scramble to find an electrician to do an emergency repair. Ethan picked up the phone immediately, asked for pictures, and then set out to find appropriate parts to do the fix, completely empathetic to our situation and willing to help. Unfortunately we couldnt make it happen same day because of parts and store closing times later in the day.. but he was able to find what he needed next day, came and replaced our box, and in just over 24 hours of a completely unplanned power disconnect- were back up and running. His website quotes honesty, integrity, and transparency and its true- we got emergency service in an emergency situation done well and right. Thank you!
