Graduated here in 2014. I had a great experience and received all the adequate training and knowledge to take my exam and become a great successful electrician. Apprenticeship programs are a start and it’s all up to the individual and how far and how serious they will take the electrical trade. Many great fellas graduated with me in the same year and are all successful business owners now. I recommend JATC for anyone looking to start their career as an electrician

Level of education provided by JATC Aria 1 its just a bare minimum required by State. Very pro-emploer and we will show the students who is in charge attitude by administration. Director acts as if you owe her your life. Most of instructors dont care about students, however, some of them are really good and make sure students not just pass weekly tests, but understand the material and know how to use it in field. 2 stars to administration, 3 to most instructors and 5+ to some of the instructors. I wouldnt change school if at list half of instructors would be like Jack Manor, how ever, he is the only one to get 10 stars and uplift the whole school to a 4 star level.

I see a lot of negativity in these reviews. I am not affiliated with JATC, nor an electrician, employer etc. I am the father of an apprentice, just starting out. I was asked to sit in on a Board Meeting, and though their judgements are harsh, I found them just and fair. People have to understand that this is not some trade where mistakes dont have consequences. Power, electrical power, is the one great achievement that sets mankind on a higher level. Fire is nice, electricity powers our progress, and they dont need people in this trade that cannot follow simple rules. It require dedication and discipline. Its not just a job. There are national and state laws and regulations that absolutely must be followed, codes that are there for protection and safety. If you cant follow simple classroom needs and rules, and think that lame excuses should get you by, then basically youll be done. Enjoy your time doing something else. I found them (the Board/Committee) extremely professional. I wouldnt want to be called up in front of them. They run a tight ship. If you can keep yourself together, follow the guidelines, youll be rewarded. If not well they arent the place for you. Simple as that

The only thing you need to get into your skull about this place is that it offers YOU that Golden Ticket in the form of a referral to sit for the Oregon Electrician Exam from the Oregon Licensing Board. Its the shortest path to sit for the test. That J-card is all you need to change your life and get a better hand than what life dealt you. Focus on that fact and the following requirements will be easier to stomach:4 years of on the job training (2,000 hours a year) which you are paid for, 4 terms of schooling (9 week terms, one night a week, 4 hours a night, summers off), ~$2800 a year tuition plus books (thats cheap kids! $200 a term, books can be about $500 new), and in school lab training sessions scattered through the year. The State of Oregon requires that you will obtain a minimum of 144 hours a year of related training for a total of 576 hours by the time you are recommended to take the state journey exam. This JATC program offers the bare minimum to meet those requirements, so if you are busy screwing around, getting DUIIs, going to jail, getting lit, you will not make it. Dont miss any classes, dont miss any labs. If you dont get those minimum 144 hours of class training a year the JATC committee is not meeting their promise to Oregon to train your brain and they WILL cut you from the program. Thats why the office staff is curt.If you are tired of your dead end job, need a new lease on life and have the steez to commit, work hard, and study hard, you WILL pass. I was unmotivated in life until I got into this trade and it has literally changed my life for the better. I can support my family, pay my own way through any college course, buy any car I want (almost), invest into mutual funds and ETFs, save for a house, lick the silver spoon, you name it! Im a shot caller now. I used to live a life of circumstance...Things use to happen to ME, now I happen to THINGS. I make my own fate. Dont listen to the negative influences in your life (yeah, you know who I am talking about) and dont listen to anyone who says you cant do it. Because you CAN.I get it. Your teachers probably told you the same thing they told me: no college = no future. Most of my school teachers are dead, wish they were, or homeless by now. There is a shortage of skilled trades people all over and you have an awesome opportunity to show them up. Did I mention that as of January 2019, the average Area 1 Inside Electrician Journeyman’s wage is $38.38? Itll be more by the time you graduate. You will start at 40% of the average wage which is, at the time of this writing, $15.36! Imagine that! $$ Raises come about every 6 months too. Mo money mo money! Dude, youll be driving by sippin Blackrock with a clear conscience knowing you have ZERO student debt.So put your phone down. Get up off the couch. Look in the mirror. Decide to ask more of yourself. Demand more out of life. Download and fill out an application. If you dont immediately meet the requirements, ASK what you can do to meet them. The lady at the front desk is really nice and she will tell you what you can do. Dont get overwhelmed. Take it a day at a time. Fix one thing, then fix another, then before you know it, youll be in the program and on your way to start an exciting and SAFE (trust me its way safer than the old days, dont believe the stories you hear) career in the electrical trade. Having that J-card will open up doors you cannot imagine. People will be asking YOU to come work for them. Theyll be literally bidding for your time like an auction. This program is not easy, but its not impossible. However, I do strongly recommend it. It is the quickest, cheapest way to get into the trade. The fact that you do indeed get your Journeyman License (provided you pass the test) at the end of it all is the only reason this place gets stars at all. You will get out what you put into it. Apply yourself, dont skip classes, dont cross the office staff, listen to your instructors, and never, EVER, forget to turn in your Monthly Report.
