My wife and I were highly impressed with the work that Mat OBrien from OBrien Wood and Iron LLC did when he built us a custom fence for our yard in South Portland, Maine. He designed and hand cut posts and toppers from white cedar that look amazing. Our neighbors comment on how great it looks and we plan to use him for bigger projects in the future. This is old school craftsmanship of the highest order that you dont see much any more and we look forward to working with him on other projects to add beauty and value to our house. He also guarantees all work for a year and will come back and make repairs if necessary. Our fence was so well built that we do not anticipate a need for repairs for many years to come, but it is good to see people standing behind their work. Highest possible recommendation.

I met Matt OBrien some time ago on a job as I am a contractor myself. At first I hired him to handle the carpentry work for my customers - to rave reviews. Then my wife and I hired him to do the first room remodel in our home. We wanted an 18th century look. We gave him the jist of what we wanted and Matt did all the design work. Custom milling all of our woodwork from raised panels on our walls, beaded and back banded casings to gorgeous beams on our ceiling. From that point, year by year, room by room, we stayed with OBrien Wood and Iron. The master bedroom was the biggest project - cutting 2 huge holes in our roof for dormers. Wide planked flooring - hand nailed and gorgeous built ins for our clothing. Again - perfection. In closing, all I can say is he is one of the finest carpenters to work with and Ive been in the business for 40 years. Honest, hard working, very intelligent and knows his craft. Truly incredibly craftsmanship, with some of the nicest folks around. We got to know them over the course of many years (between the planning and building phases), and they completed a significant conversion of a garage into an ADU, an extension of our main house, and a complete remodel of our kitchen. The level of care and thought was clear from the very beginning, and it shows in the final product. The ADU especially took a lot of creativity with the space, and the whole team brought it to life with so much light, gorgeous details and finishes, and responsiveness to our familys hopes. During the project, the whole team was always kind and thorough. We always knew we were in amazing hands!

Great quality and prices with correct board foot measurements. Lumber is all neatly stacked and staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Not a huge selection, but its a young company and they are working at adding more varieties.

We had a great experience with OBrien Wood & Iron as they helped us remediate our camp that we purchased in Naples; I recommend them without reservation. They reinforced the main carrying beam, adding columns, replaced and leveled a subfloor, poured a concrete floor, and replaced doors. They also rebuilt cabinets and they came out perfect. All of the work was done exactly when and how we discussed, with a high level of quality. Mat was thoughtful about his suggestions and approach throughout. We could not have been happier with the work. The next time we need help, theyre going to be our first call.

We had a sliding door and a small deck installed. Their work was meticulous, both structurally and aesthetically. They are especially adept at preserving and restoring older homes and worked with us in finding the best way to get the look and feel we wanted. The timing of some of the work overlapped with landscaping we were having done and they coordinated well with the landscapers. (More verification: Our neighbor who is a contractor was very impressed with their work and the city said the permit application they submitted was among the most detailed theyd seen.) Very highly recommended.
