I finally threw in the towel. While a self-installed $10 part from Lowes is better than a $100 bill from a plumber, there comes a point where one realizes that a $100 plumbers bill is preferable to thousands in water damage and in-the-wall plumbing damage.I crossed that point with a stubborn valve that wouldnt let go. I went down the list on a Saturday around noon and kept getting after hours surcharges or available on or after Monday. The welcome exception was Wasatch Plumbing and Heating. Steve said he could be out in two hours, gave me a fair estimate, got the job done quickly and professionally.

Would definitely recommend Wasatch. They were very truthful about my power was turned off on the AC unit by the last company that did my heating maintenance in the spring. Because there was a reasonable service call fee, the technician reviewed the unit as well as the thermostat to verify everything was working well.
