Hurricane Helene...what a mess!Once the storm was downgraded to a tropical storm, Tropical Storm Helene had one more twist in mind for us here in Lithonia, GA. On Friday morning at 7am, a huge tree took out 4 light poles on our main road, South Deshon Road. South Deshon Road at Biltmore Trce took the brunt of the devastation. It sounded like a bomb went off along with the lights! We had to wait for a tree service company. They came in a timely manner and started to cut the tree apart. Once that was done, the power lines were wrapped up in the tree and now the real work needed to get started. Pike Electric Company came down and started working with the mess. We as a neighborhood, sat outside and watched because what else were we going to do without lights. Our biggest challenge was trying to keep cars from trying to drive on South Deshon Road. Night fell and they couldnt do more until morning. Friday night after 10pm until Saturday morning was the worst! Some people just dont like being told they cannot drive on specific roads BECAUSE ITS CLOSED!!! Saturday morning Pike Electric came back and had to clean up what the cars from the previous night had done. The Pike Electric guys were professional and friendly and kept us updated on when we could expect power. We truly appreciated them. I realize that what we went through on 9/27 & the 28th was in no way as devastating as other places but it was devastating for us! We truly appreciated Pike Electric Company for bringing their professionalism and expertise to help us. Thank you guys and God bless you all.
