Cates was fantastic to work with. Every one of their technicians was thorough and experienced and worked with me throughout a long process to make sure everything was repaired and replaced correctly. 24-hour service line with people who are knowledgeable and very helpful to keep everyone coordinating with one another. They tested their work and made sure the unit was functioning exactly how it should once the unit was installed.I worked with Pat Marsh and he was incredibly helpful with informing me and giving me the knowledge I needed to make the right decision regarding my AC and furnace, coordinating with me during the long process of getting it repaired and eventually replaced through my apartment complex, making sure that I got the unit that I needed, and making sure that my unit was installed with care and attention to detail. He was great to work with, along with every other technician who came out to work on my unit.It is difficult to find businesses that do high quality work with high quality service and dont take shortcuts. I trust Cates to make sure Im getting what Im actually paying for. I would highly recommend Cates to anyone, cant go wrong here.

Kyler, the tech who came out today was great! He went above and beyond just the replacement of parts. Not only does my HVAC work like new again but improved my thermostat setting to make my home more comfortable. My thanks too to Paul who came out on a Sunday and to the other tech who not only diagnosed the problem on Monday but helped give Cates office workers what they needed to get the parts ordered quickly and to get the parts covered under the warranty. Super team job!!!

Recently I had an AC issue on a Saturday and received a quick response from Kyle who came over promptly and the diagnosis and repair was so smooth and efficient and all covered under my warranty. Cates has served me well in both maintenance, new installation, and repairs that gives me peace of mind.

Pat Smart came the same day and offered us options for replacement. Derek and Noah installed the unit in an efficient way. They cleaned up and very friendly and professional. Highly recommend Cates.

My most recent appointment was just a maintenance visit to check our furnace. The technician was great, but he was about an hour late which was a little inconvenient - thus the 4 stars. The lady who called me to tell me he was on his way if that was okay called after the scheduled arrival time, and she didnt apologize that he was running late. Not a big deal, but I would have expected an apology which I did get when the technician arrived.

We’ve used Cates for years now and have always been expressed with the service we have received. We had a warranty issue during Junes heatwave and the part had to come from the factory. As soon as the parts were here we got a call to repair 2 hours later. Dillan was our service technician nice and polite and didn’t leave till we were cooling down. I met with Pat on Tuesday and was given options to replace 35 yr old furnace and 25 yr old A/C in my price range . Pat left me with the offers to consider. I called Pat to accept bid and job was scheduled the next Monday. Randy lead installer and helper removed old HVAC and left me with a professional and neatly installed HVAC. I was happy with the whole process.

We are long term (30+ year) customers of Cates - and would not think of going anyplace else. They remain one of the last family owned HVAC service providers in KC, and it shows - the commitment to professionalism, quality and customer service is, in our experience, the best in town. Would recommend them without hesitation to anybody - also, as people who have owned multiple homes in different places, would add that you get what you pay for where HVAC is concerned. Low cost providers rarely justify the savings, while a professional firm like Cates means you can count on both the long term and short term value.Update 8/19/24 - had new AC unit installed last week, Vincent and team did a great job with the work - as usual!

Fantastic, Honest Service! Cates will be our go to for all future HVAC business.We are beyond thrilled that we found Cates!We were shocked with disappointment after being told by a different company that we should replace our entire system for $9k, but to get our AC working again, we needed to replace the AC compressor for $4k.Enter Cates:We had called Cates to get an estimate for a new condenser unit and/or system. The man who answered the phone reassured us that they were interested in helping us make the best decision for our needs. This was already feeling much different than the first company we called.Cates estimator was not only able to diagnose the actual problem with our condenser (something the other company overlooked), but he FIXED the issue (photo of problem) and inspected the rest of our HVAC, in under 1 1/2 hours and for under $100! The rest of our HVAC was in good condition and he recommended we have a tune up done for the summer.If youre curious who the other company was, feel free to check out my other reviews.Thank you so much Cates!

Awesome customer service. Fantastic tech!!! Our service tech, Dan, walked me through all the trouble shooting. Made a few adjustments to our noisy furnace. Now it runs quiet and worry free. Even took the time to give me an in depth tutorial on all the crazy functions my thermostat can do (ie heat pump, delay, even change the color on background and font). He also made sure that all the sensors settings were correct and programmed to optimal efficiency. Now my thermostat is as excited for the Super Bowl as I am! GO CHIEFS!!!

Cant count the number of years we have relied on Cates, spring and fall, to keep us hot or cold, depending on the season. Cates people are always polite, respectful, calm, have plenty of time to answer questions. In all these years we only had to call once because of an emergency, and someone came right away. Cates is the best.

We have had Cates yearly combined inspections of our furnace and AC systems for the past two years now. The AC inspection was completed by Kylar yesterday, and we are very pleased with the thoroughness and knowledgeable service he provided. Our furnace and AC systems are quite old (installed 22 years ago when we built this house), and were trying to stretch out their functional lives as long as possible. Thus far, they work just fine, and the house is so well insulated that we place little demand on these appliances. But a regular thorough inspection by someone who knows what to evaluated and has the tools and skills to do this is very helpful for gauging how long we can expect to go before replacement. Thats what we appreciate most about our service contract with Cates.

Over the MLK holiday weekend, with the extremely cold weather, my brand new furnace began to malfunction. I called Cates on Saturday and Vincent was here by noon. He got the furnace running, but was concerned that the problem might not be solved. He left his contact information in case of further problems. Mid-afternoon, it was clear that the furnace was still not heating correctly. Vincent returned and worked diligently to determine what the problem was. He stayed for several hours to make sure we had heat and our pipes wouldnt freeze overnight. He also diagnosed the problem and corrected it so that we have had no further issues. He went above and beyond to help us on that bitterly cold holiday weekend and we are extremely thankful for his dedication and strong work ethic! Cates is a great HVAC company!

Absolutely fantastic! After dealing with 3 other A/C companies I was a bit nervous about hiring anyone as I had been lied to about what I needed. Finally, another company Temperature Pro (also very good - but couldnt install the unusual system we needed at the time) recommended Cates. That said a lot to me - if someone in the business says that is who they would use - spoke volumes. From the very beginning Pat Marsh in sales to the installers - a father and son team- (Preston and sorry I cant remember the Dads name!) were outstanding! The epitome of customer service and professionalism. Could not have been happier. Timely, tidy and very well versed in everything HVAC. This was a really big job and they were super efficient. Without reservation I would highly recommend!!

Excellent from start to finish. Greg Schmidt was our customer service representative. He was pleasant and attentive to our needs. Installation of our new air conditioner and furnace went smoothly. Also, we had a water heater replaced and that went well. We were given a nice gift a week later from the company. We are happy with Cates. No complaints. Very professional and knowledgeable.Recently,we had a problem with the shaft on the motor Greg delivered a new motor 7:15pm and Derrick replaced it and didnt leave our home until almost 8pm. Their dedication is amazing.

Pem from Cates was extremely easy to work with and found exactly the solution we needed. We got a new furnace and a/c unit from Carrier and are very pleased with the whole process. Cates came in with a better price, better quality product, and fantastic financing compared to another large firm in the KC area that also gave us a bid. I would definitely recommend them to my friends. Also, Scott and Dillon installed the whole system in less than a day and finished exactly when they said they would.

A service manager (Chuck) came out and looked at our old water heater and gave us a bid for replacement. This bid was not the lowest but he made us feel comfortable about his knowledge of water heaters. We called and set up a installation date and on that day Jake came out and replaced the water heater with a new one. The heat went out this morning. It was 7 BELOW zero this morning in Lenexa. Thankfully I have a contract with Cates Service Company Heating and Cooling. I called at 6 am and Ethan got here at 8:30 am. Ethan found the problem, got the needed part and had the heat on in about 2.5 hours. My wife and I have been using Cates for more than 30 years and I’m sure glad I had them today. It got down to 55 degrees in the house.

Our 10 year old AC began to fail and Matt was the first kind soul from Cates to come out and replace the capacitor. 2 days later, the motor failed. This company told me the risk of continuing repairs on this unit, or they said I could deduct the cost of the motor from a new unit. Dan the salesman from Cates was awesome and no pressure on the sales and options—- just very friendly and honest. I could tell he is passionate about what he does. Nicest guy! Then , once we picked out a unit (furnace and AC), Dillon and Nick came out to install the very next day before a major heatwave. They were so friendly and very professional. As a business professional thats responsible for providing a service, its not often that I give a five stars. Usually enter some fraction. My aged furnace gave up with a motor issue. I called Cates service team on weekend and they responded immediately and sent out a technician. Unfortunately my part due to backlog and availability would take awhile to source and cost me a pretty penny. I instead asked about replacing as the unit would inevitably continue in downward spiral. The sales team was out, provided many options, and ultimately decided to replace the unit.Due to the anticipation of higher costs of gas, parts, and repairs I did a combo that replaced my air conditioner as well. I was so impressed with the installation, efficiency, and thoroughness of the crew that I write this review. Its not often you move so fluently through service, to sales, and to installation teams . After losing AC late Monday afternoon, Cate’s had a repair technician (Dan) out the next morning. Dan clearly explained the core issue (corroded circuit board) and his observations, provided a repair quote, and explained the pros/cons of installing a new system. Dan also implemented a short term fix so that we’d have AC through some 90 degree weather. After receiving several well-explained options for a new furnace/AC system, we made a selection Thursday - and installation began Friday morning.The installation team (Dillon and Scott) arrived at 8 am sharp. They resolved several unexpected system issues professionally and quickly and communicated well throughout the day. One stubborn issue with the existing damper system kept them working until 7:30 pm on a Friday - they ensured we had a fully functional system for the weekend and they were back out 8 am Monday to resolve the remaining problems. Our full process from first call to final install was less than a week and we were very happy with the quality of service at every stage. We would recommend Cate’s to anyone.

We initially had Neal Harris come look at our furnace when it stopped working because were new to the area and our home, and their sticker was on the system. Anyway, it was the 3 days where the high temperature was not over 0 degrees and they told us wed need a whole new HVAC system installed and it was going to cost tens of thousands of dollars and several days. We were feeling stuck, but luckily I got a second opinion! Dwan at Cates came by (and while we were out of town, because our house was FREEZING) and was able to get everything back online no problem. We were shocked and so very thankful that he was able to get our home heated again during the coldest days of the year. Id recommend them to anyone because he saved us so much money and heartache!

I have never experienced a more qualified and knowledgeable HVAC tech in my adult -home owning - life. We woke to a cold house on a cold winter morning. Our heat wasn’t working. A friend recommended CATES so that’s who we called. The technician, Curtis, responded within the hour, he was courteous, efficient and obviously knew his business. The good news is that he was able to get the emergency heat running, the bad news was that we needed to replace our heat pump and entire HVAC system. Within the day we received a quote, which was significantly better than what neighbors paid for a similar system several years ago. Early Monday morning two equally courteous and knowledgeable technicians Trent and Dillon arrived on time and within 5 hours our new hi-efficiency Carrier system was up and running. When they were done the area was so neat and clean one would never know that anyone had been there, then they took the time to explain what they did, and the differences between the old system and the new. Everyone at CATES, from the operator who took my initial call to the technicians who did the repairs and installation were friendly and did their best to make a bad situation tolerable. I will never use another HVAC service company, in fact, I signed up for their affordable annual service contract and encourage anyone needing repairs or service to give them a try.

Lightening does strike twice. 7 pm tonight the condensing unit fan stopped working and in a matter of 30 minutes the interior temp rose 6 degrees. Finally I found a company that was able to come out a fix my issue without shoving a massive expense (sale) down my throat. Three companies came out only to suggest that I need to replace my entire A/C system. Called the free Freon folks. They said I needed to replace my entire system. Ultimately, I nabbed a Cates guy after he finished with my neighbors house. Turns out, my A/C simply needed to be hosed off. The guy did it. Took approx. 45 minutes. Such a simple fix, but I know nothing about A/Cs & was considering replacing both units.

Matt came to check out my C/A.He was very efficient & helpful.I asked about the inbalance of heating my home due to the placement of the thermostat at one side of my home instead of centrally located which caused the other side of my home to be much colder in the winter.He gave me a couple of ideas which would help. I will consider one before fall.Matt represents Cates is a very positive way.

This is the second time I’ve submitted this recommendation. For some reason the first one never went through. We have been loyal customers of CATES Heating & Cooling for the past eight years and have always referred this great company to anyone inquiring about AC/Heating services. A few weeks ago, in the middle of a COVID-19 lock down, I called CATES for what I thought was a thermostat problem. I had planned to have a new one installed when AC was checked this late Spring, so had a new one on hand. It was NOT a thermostat problem after all, but the furnace motor was in the process of burning out. CATES once again sent one of their fantastic servicemen, Ryan Peck, who installed the new thermostat and delivered the bad news about the motor. It was very close to the time he was off, but he called a supply company exec at home and arranged for the man to open up his shop for him so he could obtain the required motor. That’s CATES – that was Ryan Peck – going above and beyond their call of duty on a weekend after hours. I highly recommend this fantastic company and their great service people. I always recommend them to family and friends and now I extend that to anyone in need of a reputable, dependable company with great service people like Ryan! Linda & Ron Poplau, KCKS

This company is awesome. We moved to Shawnee this Spring and learned that the finished basement would not stay warm as needed. Greg (Cates) came out and spent at least an hour evaluating our HVAC configuration, sent me an estimate and then came back with the technicians to make sure they were all on the same page. This morning I am sitting in a basement at a comfortable temperature of 72 degrees thanks to the dual zoning of our house’s HVAC by these great guys from Cates (Richard).This is the company to call if you need heating, cooling, or plumbing (Cates replaced our two hot water heaters earlier this year).And these guys are big Royals and Chiefs supporters. How can you beat that.Thanks Cates!

Our AC was running but not blowing cold air. Joe came out on Friday night at 8:30 and could not of been more helpful. Figured out the problem immediately and fixed it in 30 minutes at a very fair price. We could not of been more happy. We are Cates customers for life now.

I sent a text (late on a weekend evening) to Derek Larm at Cates Servicing about a problem with our Aprilaire humidifier and I received an immediate response. Derek followed up at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning and, 30 minutes later, HVAC Tech Ryan Peck was at our house. He did a great job getting our old system up and running! Very professional!
