Hugh and his team at HNI are fantastic! They helped us with a large exterior renovation project for our old stone farmhouse and did an excellent job. Unlike most other contractors in the region, Hugh is very responsive and trustworthy, making the entire process very smooth. We are very happy with the final produce and would highly recommend HNI Builders.

Hugh and the team are a real pleasure to work with. Ive had a number of renovation projects done with them on the two buildings on my property (one is a house, the other is a large art studio), and have been super happy with how they all turned out. We hired HNI Builders to do an extensive renovation on our old house in Kingston.Honestly, it was a stroke of luck that I found Hugh in the first place, positive online reviews do count for something. From the first meeting, I immediately felt that I was dealing with someone professional, knowledgeable, responsive and on par with pricing we were getting quotes on for our various projects, which ended up being in every room of the house. There were no extra surprise in cost at the end. The additional cost that did come up, were due to me realizing it was easier to have the work done while they were already in the house rather than waiting, when it would be way more disruptive once we were living there. Hugh and I would discuss the options/solutions before moving forward, and after we reviewed, an updated estimate would be sent with the new cost we had agreed to. Everything was always upfront.We met almost weekly, I often would get text with questions or photos and did continuous reviews through the whole process, which extended over the summer into early fall. Hugh was realistic about the time line, saying the majority of the work would happen fast and we would see major changes quickly and then the end would drag a little bit, generally waiting for final details to come together, and that is pretty much how it played out. In the end it was aligning all the kitchen components, which was completely gutted, to arrive in the stages it needed to that caused the final drag, more on me and vendors, then them.Everyone I interacted with on the HNI team was professional and took pride in the quality of their work. I also really valued that I could trust that Hugh and team were handling all the permits and inspections, and knew the codes they were dealing with. The familiarity with how work needs to be done in the city of Kingston is great, since he knew how and when to pace things with all the stages of the reno inspections…electric, plumbing, insulation, fire alarms ect…Though out the whole renovation, anyone who knew about our house reno, were always surprised to hear how happy I was with the HNI team. It’s more common to hear people have difficult experiences with their contractors (unresponsive, extra cost) and to be complaining, then to hear that it was moving along without issues and to be happy with the quality of the work.Since completing our work we have met others who have worked with HNI Builders and have also had positive experiences.I highly recommend HNI if you are seeking a quality, trustworthy and conscientious team to work with. At the very least, schedule a meeting to decide for yourself.

I’ve hired HNI Builders to work on my house in Kingston, NY on a number of projects and I honestly cant recommend them enough. The owner Hugh is very professional and responsive - that’s right, a contractor who actually calls you back - and he’s put together a team of hardworking guys who take pride in their work and are a pleasure to be around. For each project that they worked on for me , including replacing and repairing an old front porch, installing new windows, hanging new doors, and painting the outside of my house - they exceeding my expectations and did top quality work. Keep in mind that when you get quotes and compare prices HNI will not always be the lowball bid. The difference is that any quote they provide is what the actual cost will be, without any surprises in the end, and with great quality. For me this level of service is worth paying for, and rare to find in the field. HNI Builders are truly fantastic, after you use them you’ll find yourself recommending them to your friends and family, as I have. Thanks Hugh and team!

Hugh and his team are a joy to work with, super friendly, brilliantly precise, and very reasonably priced. They have so far renovated a bathroom for us beautifully, installed new heating, flooring, dealt with problem gutters, and rerouted pipework to avoid winter freezes (among many other things on the carpentry side). We would highly recommend HNI!

HNI Builders did an outstanding job of renovating our house from top to bottom, from installing new electrics, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, lighting, mechanics, flooring, patio, windows, doors and porch steps, to finishing the basement, building a shed and deck, upgrading the insulation and remodelling the living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms. Hugh and his team’s extensive knowledge, integrity, skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail meant that everything they tackled both looks great and functions efficiently. Hugh was an absolute joy to work with and made the whole process stress free. He was brilliant at communicating, extremely reliable, totally trustworthy and great at suggesting ways to make everything look and work as well as possible. Hugh and his team are honest and do good work. We have also found Hugh willing to come back, after a job, if there are things which need tweaking or fixing, at not additional charge. We are happy to be friends now and count Hugh and his wife as regulars at Lis Bar!
