Due to circumstances beyond the control of Underconstruction AKS, our project did not ultimately move forward. However throughout our construction application process, Alex was very responsive and professional. His pricing seemed fair and it is clear that he is detail oriented. I feel certain, that if our project had been approved, that working with Alex would have been a pleasant experience. -

My husband and I purchased a hundred year old home in Brooklyn in March 2021, and we knew it needed some work—the inspector pointed out a leaky radiator, some old wiring, but nothing we thought we couldn’t handle. We were first time home owners! We closed and immediately started looking for a contractor. I reached out to Under Construction, and the owner Alex scheduled a time to meet with me at the house to look things over. From that initial meeting, I liked Alex’s approach: he was honest and practical, aware of the strain buying a house puts on one’s finances and quick to offer options and ideas to keep us within budget. We soon realized there was much more work to be done than we’d initially thought—the sewer pipes under the house were the original clay pipes installed in the 1920s, and they basically all needed to be replaced. This meant the basement floor had to be completely torn up and replaced as well. Needless to say, we had not budgeted for this and were concerned about cost, and we had no previous experience with this kind of renovation project. Alex calmly and clearly explained what had to be done, what decisions had to be made, and walked us through an optimistic time table. After we shopped for and selected our new tile floor, he picked up our order, brought it to the house, and worked closely with me to ensure the pattern and overall look was exactly what we wanted. The end result looks beautiful; we’re very happy with it. But if that weren’t enough, literally the day before we were scheduled to move in the furniture from our apartment, I discovered a massive leak in the kitchen coming down from the shower upstairs. The kitchen was a mess, and our upstairs shower was essentially unusable until it was fixed. Alex came over right away to look over the damage and start scheduling the work that needed to be done. Unfortunately we couldn’t delay moving in at that point, which meant we were living in the house with no usable shower—the one in the basement was inaccessibly because the floor wasn’t finished, and the one upstairs had to be entirely ripped out and replaced. At this point, we were extremely concerned about our budget, and also impatient to be finished with the work and able to settle into our new home. Alex diverted his attention to completing the upstairs shower as quickly as possible, and he and his team worked every day—including weekends—to get it done. He was able to offer us no-interest financing for part of our project, so that we didn’t have to take out an extra loan and were able to keep building back our savings. Because of our budgetary and scheduling concerns, I kept emphasizing that we simply wanted to shower done as soon as possible: it didn’t need to look perfect, we could redo it in a couple years if we want, we just needed a way to take a shower! And while he did get it done very quickly, the new tile they put in looks beautiful, expertly cut and installed and water-proof—it’s the nicest shower I’ve ever used, better than you find in the most expensive hotels. Given the age of the house, there’s still a lot of work to do—we’re planning to replace the boiler, redo the wiring, install new trim…the list goes on. But Alex has helped us make multi-year plans (and budgets) so that we can take our time renovating and address the house’s “problem areas” before they become urgent issues. Through all the work we’ve done so far, Alex has handled our permit applications, kept thorough and detailed track of the work done and the cost, and has never exceeded his initial estimate for any job—everything has come in at our under what he quoted us. I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their home—great work from a friendly, knowledgeable contractor at an affordable price! -

Honest. Professional. Pleasant. Thorough. Knowledgeable. Flexible. These are all things we look for in a contractor but its hard to find someone who encompasses all of them. Alexander fits the bill. We needed what we thought was a fairly simple job - replacing a bathtub and some of the tiled wall around it. We had several contractors come take a look. All either wouldnt take the job (too small), or said theyd do it but only if we agreed to renovate the entire bathroom (or theyd just charge an exorbitant amount for their favor). Finally, after asking everyone I know for recommendations to no avail and searching Yelp many times, I came upon Underconstructions profile (it didnt show up the previous times for some reason). I gave Alexander a call and he came the next day. Then he returned with the plumber he uses (also a fantastic guy in his own right) to get a better idea of what would need to be done, before giving us a final, reasonable estimate. The job took a few days longer than expected but that was because Alexander and his team were very thorough and came upon some underlying structural issues that needed to be addressed. Alexander and his team worked really hard for many hours each day. They also went above and beyond by doing things such as vacuuming up after themselves each day, removing all their garbage, and being very (patiently) communicative throughout the process. They were very pleasant throughout, trying their best not to be in anyones way. This guy has integrity and is actually good at what he does, which isnt easy to find. Would highly recommend him. -

Alex and his team did a great job with my apartment renovations including a kitchen and bathroom remodel as well as flooring and tile installations. They were very professional and responsive. Alex communicated with me daily to ensure that I am satisfied with the work product. Alex personally reviewed the work and if he thought that an addition that I didn’t think of was necessary he would recommend it. These were thoughtful , inexpensive upgrades or no cost suggestions, which make a huge different in the feel of the apartment. I was very satisfied with his services and will use him and his team again. -

Alex and his team did a really great job and I would highly recommend them! I asked them to open a wall that was blocking my kitchen and to make it an open kitchen to the living room and they made it turn out to exactly what I was looking for! They are very reliable, detailed and very responsible. Alex took time to explain to me in detail of the plan, to understand my needs, and to let me know of the progress through each stage. He is an expert and very trustworthy. I’m so lucky I have found them. -
