Had a great experience with owner Mike Fisher and the whole crew. We had a bunch of work done in our 1890s St. Paul home. The old single-pipe steam system was at the end of its useful life. We also have serious problems with the bottom of the soil stack and the basement plumbing (including leaky cast iron gas valves). We got solid support through the whole design and decision-making process. Mike walked us through various choices, including repairing and upgrading the existing system by replacing the steam system with hot water heat. There was never a minute of hard sell and several opportunities for me to take on parts of the work (demo, drywall patching, etc.) to keep costs in check. Were very satisfied with the work, professionalism, and friendliness of the whole crew. I had someone out just last week to address a minor plumbing problem and ensured everything about the big projects was up to snuff. I got help making a couple of decisions about managing the system and a couple of small upgrades.I do continuous improvement coaching for a living. The crew works the way Id expect. They respect the property, are clear about what everyone is working on, are always well-organized with tools and materials, and leave the job site clean at the end of the day. Ive learned a lot engaging with the various team members, and they have been open to suggestions and have engaged with me as a knowledgeable client, which I appreciate.Id recommend Mikes for your plumbing or HVAC needs without reservation. I was contacted by Ariel who set the appointment with my Tech, Jake. Jake arrived promptly (early in the appointment window). He interviewed me regarding my needs, reviewed my system and analyzed the problem. He offered me several options / solutions and helped me arrive at a decision with which I was very happy (both the product offered and the installation cost). Mikes also offered a very quick turnaround from that meeting to the installation - one week. Received a follow-up call from Ariel to confirm that the installation time and date worked. It seems to me that Mikes is intent on providing a high quality product for a cost that meets my needs and budget as well as a timely installation so that I can enjoy the unit from here on.

Mikes Custom Mechanical has done what I consider some fairly substantial jobs for me. Two+ years ago, they added a sink and drain system for a new basement kitchen, figuring out how to integrate the vent stack into some really twisty existing plumbing. They also moved the water softener from one corner of the basement about 50 across to the utility room in the opposite corner to get it out of the future kitchen space. I was very satisfied, so theyre top of my list when I need something done. About a month ago, I had them back to replace a cracked cast-iron drain stack. I thought it was going to be a huge, disruptive project that would force me to move out for a day or two, but they were able to keep it down to replacing maybe 12 linear feet of cast-iron with PVC. While discussing the project, I asked if they could shift the direction of a low-hanging horizontal run just a little to help people avoid cracking their heads on it in a cramped basement bathroom space. The plumber suggested a very different routing, which opened up that room much more than I had thought possible. They finished the project in less than a day so I didnt have to clear out during the project, either. They returned a week or so later to replace a garbage disposal and add an instant hot water system in my main kitchen, once again tackling a quirky, existing drain that had practically been running uphill. When I need skilled plumbing work done, Mikes Custom is the place Im calling. Photos include kitchen sink installed in 2022 as well as before and after pics of drain stack they replaced.

Great Experience with Mikes Custom. Jo is the customer service person every business should have. Always kept us up to date on the project. Thomas installed our new furnace and A/C in one day, was very professional, and left our utility room in great shape! Shane and Jared installed the tankless water heater, water softer, and filter. Everything works and looks great. I feel like they work as a team, and they have one goal in mind and that is to make the customer happy. I can call them with any concerns and they get back to me right away. This is my 2nd house that they have done work for me, the service is exceptional. New Update. 2/10/2024. Had Mikes come in for the bi-annual maintenance on Feb 1st, Tech Ben came in and performed the tasks needed. The air exchanger was almost 20 years old and he noticed the mold growing inside. the house was built in 2005, we have lived here 2 years, and exchanger looked like it was never serviced. He made an effort to clean it up, but i felt more comfortable getting a new updated one. I cant believe we might have been inhaling mold since we moved in. Thanks Ben for looking at all the mechanicals in our utility room. We get the info for that and we got a humidifier as well for the house. Lani from the office kept us updated on the parts, got us in on Feb 8th, she was wonderful! Abe came in first thing in the morning and worked all day, everything looking neat and tidy in the utility room. I cant thank the team enough at Mikes Custom Mechanical, for making me and my family their priority. We even got a really cool hoodie out of the deal ! I really recommend these guys for anything you might need help with.

We sprung a leak the night before an inspection and needed it fixed quickly. Not only did Mikes respond quickly at 6pm at night (Thanks Ariel!) Tyler, the tech who came out, worked so hard to get it taken care of before the inspection. In the end, he got it stopped enough to pass our inspection and make it through the weekend (to reduce costs and inconvenience for our residents) and then came back bright and early on Monday and fixed it. HE EVEN CLEANED UP AFTER HIMSELF! I HIGHLY recommend Mikes!

Thank you very much to Shane and Tyler for fixing my sink so quickly. I work from home and my office is directly under the kitchen, even though they were directly above me, I barely heard a peep. They did an excellent job. They were very professional very knowledgeable. Plus, they wouldn’t be on, but I had scheduled them to do; Meaning, I had four deadbolt locks to change, and they were kind enough to do it for me for no extra charge.I would recommend mike’s Custom Mechanical to complete any word that you may need done within the realm of knowledge. May 7th…Jake Wolfe arrived right on time, began his inspection of my AC, explained his process and what he expected to see. I can always count on Jake to be very thorough.Shane McManus, plumbing technician, installed my water softener today. He took the time to evaluate the space where the water softener was to be placed. Shane also double checked the water feeds and calculated what he needed to make sure the water softener would function properly. (All the measurements were taken by Jeff Wolfe when he completed maintenance per my agreement with Mike’s Custom Mechanical company.) Shane was confident that the unit he brought to my house would fit perfectly. He confirmed this by placing it to the best advantage, made the appropriate pipe connections, checked the hard water values (28-30 hardness) set the unit to accommodate these numbers, poured the necessary salt and tested. He remained until the unit finished its calibration.Mike and his team truly demonstrate their five values when completing their HVAC maintenance services. You can reply on the quality of the products they install into your home and the quality of their work, (completed efficiently and correctly). I was impressed with Jake ‘s knowledge and his personal touch, evaluating the needs for my particular project. Since I need a water softener installed, Jake made the calls to order the equipment that will fit the space next to my water heater (after measuring twice) and to the plumbers who will complete the installation. He also obtained a quote for this project. Nice to work with such an accomplished technician.You can count on this company’s professionalism and know they will give you their best service.JakeWolfe, arrived exactly as he said he would, immediately reviewed the problem and completed the necessary repairs. He also conducted the Spring maintenance check for the AC and ran temperature checks on the furnace and AC systems. I liked that he is very knowledgeable, professional and personable, plus thorough. I plan to follow through with his suggestions for covering the AC next winter (not the plastic cover I was using, but purchasing a 3’ x 3’ piece of plywood to lay on top). Jake also enrolled me into your maintenance program.Thank you for employing great people.

My recent experience with Mikes Custom Mechanical was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend them!Not only was the woman on the phone able to schedule us for the next day, but she called back and said she shifted things around to get me an even earlier appointment. This was especially appreciated as our heat had been turned off by a different company the day before, and we wanted a second opinion very quickly with colder weather on the way.Jake arrived right on time and was professional and knowledgeable. He was able to help us quickly pick out a new furnace, and made sure our installation could be done that day by working with other technicians on the fly. Jake kept us informed throughout the whole process. All of the guys were so helpful and courteous that it was a pleasure having them in our house to do the work. The new furnace works great, the work was done well, and they cleaned everything up very nicely. Overall it was a great experience and we are happy to move forward with future work with them.

In the past month or so, weve had Mikes Custom Mechanical back to do two more projects for us. The first was a sump pump installation which was done by Tyler and Ben. The work was done quickly and cleanly and I really appreciated that. Ben even rebuilt a leaking spigot for us!The second project was installation of a new AC unit. Tanner was fantastic throughout the whole process. He did the tune up on my existing unit, found some things that were not done right by our previous service company, made some recommendations and then had our new unit installed a day or so later. I had some issues with my heating system (gas boiler hydronic) which including a failed zone valve controller, a leaking radiator, and a chronic problem with air in the system causing a lot of noise. Michael Fisher came out and diagnosed the problems and gave me estimates for all the repairs and improvements (which were not cheap, but nothing is cheap these days). Michael replaced the failed zone valve controller right away which got my system working again. Changing out the radiator and replumbing in a new air separator and air tank was a bigger job and less urgent so we scheduled the rest of the work for a different day. Tyler Hickle came on the scheduled day and replaced/upgraded a bunch of the boiler plumbing, removed the old-style air tank, installed a Spirovent air separator (on the HOT side of the boiler where it should be) and new style air tank, and replaced the leaking radiator. My heating system now works much better, and a lot quieter. So far, Im very happy with the work done by the guys from Mikes Custom Mechanical and would not hesitate to call them for future HVAC or plumbing work.

VERY happy with them! I received quotes from a total of 5 companies and they are the only ones who came to my house, discussed my options and gave me a written quote immediately. I will use them again. Over the years, Ive had several different companies and repair people come through and they have won my trust to have back in my home again.With Covid19 going to homes to do quotes can be tricky, but Tyler showed up with his mask on and socially distanced. He was very personable and took the time and to discuss my options, very professional and efficient. I was considering tankless and tank water heaters, I went with the tankless. Im so happy I want with tankless...Theres so much room for activities!On day of install; he laid tarps to protect my floors from him coming in and out of the house, install went faster than expected, and when one of the guys (Tyler or his helper) meowed to my cat.....that confirmed I had made the right choice.Photos; I wished Id taken the before photo of the big clunky water heater from the same angle, the photo with the green hamper is where it used to be was in the way of the washer, and just the pretty new tankless its own spotlight.

Professional, quality service from all the staff at Mikes Custom Mechanical. I highly recommend them for all your plumbing and heating needs. My home was built in 1891 originally as a commercial creamery. They tore out my existing heating systems, including heat runs and replaced them with a 3 zone system and in floor heat. I no longer have hot and cold zones. They removed the original water pipes hanging from the ceiling and buried them in the floor. No more condensation dripping on my head. They plumbed and installed new fixtures in my new master bath. Shane & Tyler work great together and clean up the work area when they are done. Ariel has been a great help, verifying production needs and scheduling. Mike has put together a fantastic team to meet your plumbing and heating needs. Give them a call.

Jake Wolfe did a great job inspecting and reviewing the aged furnace in our home. He also went above and beyond to explain the replacement options and helped to get the install scheduled timely. Very thorough, professional, and personable. Tanner Woodburn was the technician assigned to perform the install. After running into some expected hiccups with the old 40 year old furnace he stayed late into the night on A Friday and came back early the following week so I could meet my home inspection deadline. While an unpleasant surprise to have to install a furnace in a home that was being sold- Jake, Tanner, and the team at Mike’s made the process easy. I will be using them for any future HVAC needs and would highly recommend.

Tyler and Thomas did an excellent job installing my new central air and furnace. They were on time, professional and nice to have around all day. Derrick and BJ (Bailey) saw the distress signal over the night skies of St. Paul and sprang into action turning up the heat on Dr. Freeze and his thick Austrian accent with a brand new 60,000 btu Amana furnace. I’m not sure what Commissioner Mike has these guys at in his payroll, but he might need to bump them up a skosh.Case in point, just went downstairs and saw what I thought was an error code on my furnace. Called up Mike’s (after hours) and left a message. Immediately got an appointment text saying they would be at my house the next morning. Not five minutes later these two guys got me on a conference call telling me (the amateur) what the codes meant and what was going on. Again, this is after hours. For all I know Derrick was at home with his lady and BJ was up in some deer stand waiting for the next twelve point buck to cross his path.On a serious note, it’s comforting to know that there are still some businesses out there that treat YOU the customer with great respect and professionalism. Although this was an unexpected expense, Mike walked me through all my options and helped me pick a boiler system that was right for me and my home. Upon inspection and discussion about issues weve been having with the boiler, we realized it would be better to replace it.The techs did an immaculate job with the installation of a 95% efficient tankless water boiler. When the system (not something the company did) had a minor error later in the week, a tech was able to walk me through a quick fix over the phone and then sent out a tech to make sure it worked properly long-term.These guys are very thorough and have followed up with us to make sure the system is working properly. Our boiler wasnt seeming to work and we had Mikes team come out and tell us what the problem was. It turns out, we had an internal leak in our boiler and we had to have it replaced. Since its a rental property, we decided to get two boilers and add separate lines to keep the two units heated on their own thermostat. Closed on my house on a Monday, toilet broke on Tuesday. Wasnt sure who to call, so I called Mikes as the seller had used them to install a new A/C prior to close. Heather in the office was great and was able to squeeze me in the same day. The tech Shane was on the ball and quickly identified and resolved the issue. Id mentioned the water heater which will need replacement (hopefully later than sooner), and he was nice enough to give me some numbers for a rough estimate so I can plan the budget accordingly. All in all, very happy with my experience.

You wont find a friendlier, more professional bunch. 15/10 - cannot recommend them highly enough.Feb / Apr 2023: After my great experience with Mikes Custom Mechanical with my furnace, I decided to give them a call when it was time to replace my AC. Mike came out again to discuss the options with me. He listened to my wants and concerns, discussed what he thought would best fit my needs, and also ran through all of my options. Again, I felt no pressure to make a decision or purchase a new system. Mike even remembered where I grew up from when we had talked in 2021 and was able to explain different options using his knowledge of my lived experiences to explain technical concepts in a way I would understand.Tanner did my AC install on the literal coldest day of the year in February (a large portion of the work was outside) and he did not complain about it once. Tanner was friendly, helpful, professional, and respectful (Bailey aided Tanner in this endeavor, and I have to give him the same high praise). In April, Tanner came back out to finish up the portions of the install that couldnt be completed in February due to the cold temperatures. This time around there were some complications in the install (old house, odd wiring), but Tanner took them in stride, made no excuses, and did what was needed to get the job done (even if it took a longer than expected). He even remembered my dogs name! The personal experience provided by Mikes Custom Mechanical is absolutely top-notch.Nov 2021: Mike was great. He explained the issues with my furnace and my options for repair. He also walked through my entire system and made recommendations on what I could do, what I may need to do in the future, and explained things I need to know about my existing systems. I just purchased my home so it was very helpful. Though he made great recommendation for repair and replacement, he was not pushy when it came time to make a decision about how to move forward.I had Mikes Custom Mechanical install a new furnace in Nov 2021. Derek did a great job. He was timely, professional, and respectful (additional shoutout to Shane, who helped Derek, and was equally as amazing). Having your furnace stop working properly at the beginning of winter in Minnesota is a very stressful thing. But Mikes Custom Mechanical was able to respond quickly to get my home heated again. Through two winters with my new furnace and its working great. You never want to your furnace to quit on you in the winter, but you cant go wrong with having Mikes Custom mechanical on your side when it does.

I called Mike’s over the weekend when the fan on our furnace wasn’t consistently blowing and a very nice man walked me through getting it blowing again, which was great. Their service was consistently friendly. They came out today ($150 dispatch fee; Soderlin’s is $89) and diagnosed it as a dirty flame sensor and cleaned it for $250, so $400 total for a 20 minute job. It’s working well now. The cost to replace the flame sensor was quoted to us at $750. My research tells me the part is ~$10.I’m posting this because I’m tired of the lack of transparency in this industry. We called six companies for competing quotes on cleaning the sensor once Mike’s diagnosed the problem and no one would give us a quote over the phone. Our service tech said all their work is flat rate, industry standard, and yet not one other company would provide their flat rate price for cleaning a dirty flame sensor until we shelled out a dispatch fee. So, here are Mike’s prices for these very specific services on this particular day in South Minneapolis (1/10/23). Do with this information what you will, hope it can help someone.

Mikes came out quickly on time as promised and installed our new water heater. The customer service from start to finish was outstanding! I recommend Mike’s for all of your plumbing and hoax needs. Oh, and the cost was very fair

Would recommend a 100%! Shane and Caden did an amazing job of removing a 40 year old water heater and replace it with a tankless water heater that required some re-routing and added a recirculating line! Shane was explained everything in great detail and they even cleaned up the basement after. I have high standards and they did an amazing job!

Every four months they do maintenance on my unit per agreement, so i am having issues with the toilet i called the office and they said your tech Ben does HVAC and Plumbing we will add it to your work order, Ben looked at it ordered some parts and put me on the schedule for next Thursday when the parts come in, no extra appointment, Mikes always has a solution, and a shout out to Ariel and the office staff for there help!!!!!!

My fiancé and I had our air go out on the Friday before the 4th of July and when we explained that we have a Bernese mtn. dog and it would be challenging to get a hotel they were willing to go above and beyond and help replace our AC. They let us know who was on their way and when as well and both Derek and Tanner kept me posted on how they were fixing the issue the entire time. They were transparent about the cost before agreeing to do the work and Tanner and Derek were very friendly to us and our pets. They reassured us that we could reach out with any questions or concerns and we will absolutely be going back to them if we need anything.

Great experience from start to finish. Bob came out at 8am when our furnace went out and informed us of all our issues as well as the best options for us to get our furnace fixed. Next morning, Mike showed up to install our new furnace. He spent nearly all day here getting it installed so we wouldn’t have to worry about heating the home. When an issue came up, another employee, Roy, came out late at night to help Mike finish the job. Very hard workers and very professional. Would highly recommend to all.

They flushed and disinfected my hot water heater and have taken a water sample to try to figure out why there is so much smelly sediment accumulated in the hot water heater. This is above and beyond what other companies have done to determine why my hot water gets so smelly periodically. Kudos to Mikes for looking for the root of the problem and not just putting a bandaid on it!!!

Company I work for needed the new water heater connected and in good running order. I called on the Friday of 4th of July weekend and they had Shane set up to come give an estimate on July 5th. Shane had to order the parts and came back the following Monday to complete the job. Well, like all repairs another issue was found. Shane promptly and professionally reach out to me about it and handled it right away. He took his time to explain everything to me and was very respectful. He was even able to answer question I had for him about other repairs/updates not plumbing related and directed me to the person that could best help. I will be using them in the future for other updates and highly recommend them to family and friends.I also dealt with Heather in the office about needing a receipt and getting the special instructions for arrival to the techs Monday morning.

I needed help with an eyewash install and didnt know where to start. I filled in my information on a services website and within minutes I was contacted by Jo with Mikes Custom Mechanical. Jo was very professional and answered all of my questions and within 2 days they had a plumber deployed to my site for an estimate. Ben(plumber) showed up quickly, I explained what I was looking for and had an estimate for me on the spot. I ultimately hired them and within a few days my eyewash station was installed. Ben ran into a few issues and some things needed to be reworked but they stayed within their estimate(which I didnt expect) despite the unforeseen challenges. All in all I am very pleased with my experience. The professionalism and friendliness by both Jo and Ben were top notch, the work looks great, and I for sure will be calling them in the future.

Thomas and Bailey installed new heating and AC units in our home. They were timely, kept us updated on the progress, and explained the new systems to us. The work was done efficiently and everything is working perfectly. They removed the old systems and cleaned up completely from the work. They answered all of our questions. I called this company to install my smart thermostat and they found a major problem in my furnace control panel. I decide to replace the furnace with them. They were really quick on getting schedule of installation and went through all the pros and cons of different furnaces. If I could give more stars I would. Mike, Tyler and everyone on his team are amazing. He recently helped us out with a couple plumbing emergency issues at some of our transitional homes where we house homeless military veterans. Mike is also a Marine Corps vet so an added bonus! I could not believe how quickly he responded to our requests. Mike jumped right in, found the issues and took care of them in no time. Superb customer service from Mike and is now on my speed dial! He also takes the time to explain everything in detail which is a breath of fresh air for someone who does not know anything about plumbing. We found Mike’s Mechanical through our Ecobee thermostat account after our HVAC system aged out and started leaking all over our floor. The technicians took more than the age of our system into account and took the time to explain with pictures how degraded our system was and explain the options they could provide. On a lark, we asked about additional plumbing work we had been putting off, and they worked out a discounted plan to complete everything.Thomas completed our HVAC install over 2 days, though he gave us a functional AC before he left on the first day. He was courteous in every encounter and ensured we didn’t have any unanswered questions. After the HVAC install, he also answered unrelated for another gas appliance and made sure it was safe for us.Tyler completed the plumbing work and he was also very courteous. He was careful to address all of our concerns and correct the poor work that we previously experienced.

Mike was at our home within hours, assessed the problem, and proposed several options as to resolve it.The work was performed by Tyler, who arrived promptly and performed his work with professionalism and efficiency. Tyler demonstrated a kind manner, a willingness to explain the process, and a concern for neatness. In combination, the aforementioned made for a wonderfully positive experience.We had a second occasion to call upon Mike and his team, this time involving toilet repair. Once again, from the moment “Jo”(?) took my initial call through to Tyler’s completion of the work and cleanup, we were nothing short of happy campers.
