May Electric Solar performed the job as promised. They kept us informed of the progress of the paperwork throughout. The panels went on the roof a little different than planned due to the location of a plumbing vent. That could have been determined beforehand had the roof been measured prior to design.

Review after 3 months of the system working:After a year of researching solar panel systems we decided to move forward with both solar panels and battery backup. It was a significant investment. Our house is 3500sf. We ended up with 52 panels on the roof and 4 – 5KW batteries in the garage. We went with the Enphase system (inverters and batteries). Panels were REC 405W Alpha Pure.I have been in construction for 40+years and I can be a difficult customer. I interviewed numerous companies over several months. A friend had used May Electric Solar and recommended them so I added them to the list. Afterwards, I ended up going with May Electric Solar. They were excellent at communicating. They are an electrical company that installs the system(s). Since the most complicated part of the solar system is the electrical portion, I liked working with an electrical company versus a company that is strictly solar and outsources the electrical part. If you are doing just panels (no batteries) then this is not as important. May Electric Solar did everything they said they would do with no surprises. The challenging portion of getting the electrical inspection signed off and the utility company to accept and energize the system went flawlessly (first time). My overall experience was excellent. My questions and request to see cut sheets, warranties, contract language, payment requirements, etc was addressed quickly and professionally. The owner (Billy) came to my house and spent over an hour reviewing my electrical panel and sitting down and answering my question. I was very impressed.The system has now been working for about 3 months with no issues. We just went through 2 hurricanes (Helene and Milton) that had record breaking amounts of rain and incredibly high winds. With Milton we lost power for 5 days. No leaks from the 52 roof panels. No panels blew off. The system worked perfectly and we had the necessary power 24/7. It was so nice not worrying about generators or finding gas. We were also surprised when both the sales person (Neil) and the owner (Billy) text us the day after the storm and ask how the system was doing. This company was 5-star from start to finish. I would highly recommend this company to friends and family.More info if interested…Logic on why we went with solar panels (excluding batteries):For us, it would take approximately 7.8 years to break even. After that the panels were paid for and the electric is now free. The way I see it, we will be paying someone this money over the next 7.8 years (either for solar panels or Duke Energy).Logic on why we went with batteries:If your electric company power goes out to your house, you cannot use the solar panels unless you have a battery. We had discussed getting a whole house generator. That cost was approximately the same cost as adding batteries to our solar panels. It did not make financial sense but you buy a whole house generator for peace of mind and not for financial gain. Same logic with the batteries.Other points of interest:• Insurance: Our electrical provider (Duke Energy) required a million-dollar GL insurance policy due to the size of our system. It took State Farm months to get the policy in place so start that process early.• Roof: If you need a new roof in the next few years, get the new roof installed first so you don’t have to pay to have the panels removed and reinstalled.• Batteries are what currently has the greatest opportunity to improve year after year regarding the technology. Some battery companies have new generation batteries that are not compatible with their old battery technology. Not good if you want to replace or add just one battery.• Tax credit. There is a federal 30% tax credit on the solar panel system. This does not come off the initial price. You still pay full price. But you can write off the value (30%) over the coming years. If you are in a position where you don’t pay taxes each year, then this won’t benefit you.

We researched several different providers before we decided to go with May Solar Electric and we couldn’t be happier! They provided excellent pricing, the best solar panels, and the best micro-inverters. Our experience with them was great! Neil Summers made the sales process fantastic. He was very professional, attentive to all our needs, friendly, answered all our questions, provided lot of very useful information, and was with us during the whole process. On top of that, our interactions with May Solar Electric office, and Mr. William May, couldn’t have been better. They made the whole approval, installation, financing process a breeze. Great company!!! I give them 5 stars for sure!

We really did our homework checking out 6–7 companies and it was important that a real local company install our solar panels with NO subcontractors. Im pretty upset because I wrote this long paragraph explaining my experience and accidently clicked out of it! So im going to make it short and sweet, haha. This company has my business, whether its with solar, surge protector, or anything I need thats related.I called at 8pm on Friday requesting a quote for a 48-amp home charger for an EV (most businesss are closed by then) and I had a chill convo and William which he then said he could install either Saturday or Sunday. Thats unheard of! But sure enough, he was here on Sunday and absolutely destroyed any quote that was provided by another company.Its funny because I checked the reviews after our convo Friday and saw a lot of good reviews, and I see why. Now here I am writing another long paragraph. So much for short and sweet!Again, great job, and if I decide to go solar after a few months at my new house, then there is no question about it, May Electric has my business.

I would recommend May Solar to anyone looking for a reputable, knowledgeable and professional company to install solar on your home or business. I spent more than a month researching and getting estimates from local and nation wide companies. To start, the sales professional Paul was knowledgeable. He came prepared to present the information I needed to know, answered my questions completely and provided helpful insight so I could make an informed decision. He was not pushy as some of the other companies were. He responded to my emails when I had questions during my decision making. The product they provide is top quality with a warranty that gives piece of mind knowing that your investment is going to do what it should. While providing top quality soar panels and microinverters, May Electric came thru with the best system cost. The other companies were offering lesser products and warranties and asking thousands more. May Electric took charge of the installation process and made sure I knew what to expect. The only challenge in the process was with my electric company. Lets just say the electric company really messed up and May Electric stepped up to take care of me and made sure we got my system up and running. Thank you Mr May. My system has been up for just shy of a week. I monitor its productivity on my computer or an app on my phone. So far, I am very pleased with how the system is working. Bottom line, May Electric Solar is the best way to go solar!

Peter in Sales at May Electric was always prompt at resolving my concerns during the design and permit/historic board approval process. The system delivered as advertised. Donny in Service also answers correspondence promptly. I had been searching for a solar contractor to handle my houses unique requirements and May Electric Solar did just that.November 2023I had an Enphase IQ7+ Microconverter stop working the other day and I called May Electric Solar and they pleasantly took over the job of contacting Enphase for a replacement and then installing the replacement microconverter all under their 30 year parts and labor warranty. What a pleasant surprise it is to have such an excellent contractor to work with. I always recommend May Electric Solar!

Ive contracted with May in late November, 2024. I had a few companies in to make proposals. Mays was by far the most professional and competitive. May kept me informed throughout the permitting process. Permits were obtained in early January, and January 4th, my system was installed. The workman were great. They even stacked the excess roofing tiles that were removed in my roof which was a big deal to me as it is hard for me to do. The building department inspected and approved the job the day after installation was complete. One week later, Duke approved my net metering application and my system was up and running. Compared to other people I know who installed solar, where it took months from beginning to end, May did it in less than 2 months. I would recommend them to anyone.

We had a great experience with May Solar. I spent over two years researching and making myself comfortable with Solar and when I decided to pick a company, May was the only one with a real rep who was available all the time to answer my questions. Other places had a call center that forwarded you to somebody who wasn’t really interested jn assisting you and I wasn’t interested in that. I had dozens of questions and all were answered and some even in-person. It’s a local company with local workers and you can tell they all care.On install day the crew came out and introduced themselves, were super professional and despite it being a big job were done in two days.Also, three days after my Solar was turned on I had an issue with my app (not the company’s fault, it’s run by enphase) and within a few hours of sending the email to the office the owner was emailing me to fix it the next day. You can’t get better than that. If you are in the Tampa Bay Area and are looking for solar I couldn’t recommend them more. Trust me, I took the time to do the research and work on it and I was hesitant but am thrilled with how it went.

May solar was choosen through our solar co op. Everything went well. The enphase app is amazing. it offers a lot of different data but I especially love the live data. You are able to see consumption, exporting energy and importing from the electric company. Because of this I was able to figure how much my air conditioner and other appliances are consuming. I decided to put my air on 77 while home and 78 when not home whereas before I was set at 74 home and 76 not home. This helped my consumption a lot. I also unplugged appliances I dont use regularly. I have made changes in how I use my electricity and it has paid off. I have had a zero electric bill for 2 months. I was told you need to work with your panels, have done so, and now my panels are paying off. The owner is very supportive and responsive to any questions.

I highly recommend May Electric with no hesitation. I did extensive research about the technology and about local providers before selecting May Electric. The sales process was honest, straightforward and informative. The price was the lowest around and there were no surprises. The installation ran on schedule and the entire team was courteous and considerate. I had 60 panels installed. I thought I would have to put some of them on a less than optimal SW facing roof. Billy was able to rearrange them at the last minute and squeeze them all onto a south facing roof. I’ve had them for almost 2 years. May Electric provided me with all the forms and guidance I needed to claim the maximum tax deduction. Because of Billy’s ingenuity, the panels have produced even more energy than I had expected. It looks like the whole system will have paid for itself in under 8 years. I couldn’t be happier.

It was time for me to stop paying all that money for electricity and become less dependent on the power company. I reached out to Paul Dunn from May electric solar, because I heard great things about them and I did my research. Paul calculated a solar system size that would fit my specific needs based on my energy usage and he was able to calculate solar production based on the power output rating of the micro inverters and the rated power output of the solar panels, Solar panel temperature coefficient, design, seasonal temperatures, angle and orientation to the sun, while analyzing the shading from trees in relation to the position of my roof with impressive accuracy. Last week I had a 11.7 kWh PV solar panel system installed on my roof by May electric solar. Being a former electrician myself upon my observations I noticed quality workmanship in the interconnection of micro inverters and PV solar panels and also in the hidden conduit runs running into the attic. All wiring was neatly done running from the PV solar panels to the micro-inverters and from the Enphase IQ combiner and rapid shutoff switch to my breaker. The installation passed inspection promptly as I expected without any doubts. The install looks great and everything looks well constructed. From start to finish, including the permitting process everything went smoothly and now I’m just waiting on PTO from Duke power which shouldn’t be much longer from now. To be prepared during hurricane season I’m also looking into the costs of having whole house battery back up which I am currently in the process of getting estimates from May Electric Solar. I will keep you updated with how everything goes after PTO from my power company. If I go with the Enphase IQ whole house battery back up power, I will let you know how that works out as well. I’m very happy with my decision to go with May electric solar!!

I am very happy I went with them, the company has been nothing but responsive and quick with everything. Great local company in the Tampa area. I researched approximately a dozen companies (national and local). May Electric won the bid of a solar coop (which I joined) in the Tampa area. They were the best price by thousands and my research chowed great feedback from their customers. My unit was installed in Oct 2021. I am happy with their work and communication throughout the installation, inspections and go live. Really enjoying the clean energy and watching the data from my savings on a convenient website that May Electric helped me get set up.

Generally very happy from start to finish working with May Solar. Did explore several companies and was really happy with the price for the quality with using LG panels made in Huntsville, AL (rather than China) with a solid 25 yr warranty by a reputable installer and manufacturer (although I have no intent of needing it). We had 26 panels installed on our roof and connected for a new grid tie system. I am a registered professional engineer and can say the install looks very clean without any shortcuts or sloppiness which otherwise seen with a lot of contactor labor even down to little things like clean caulk lines and squared off and aligned panels, disconnect, conduit routing. The process was straightforward and any questions were answered quickly. The permit went through the county with no corrections needed in like 2 days and then scheduled installation they arrived on the scheduled day and had installed and finished in maybe 6 or 7 hours. They aided in getting the net meter application done with FPL, took FPL 12 days to get it installed, and now happily producing solar electricity while still connected to an excellent power company for all other times of the day making solar storage/batteries not really necessary.

Shopped around with over 10 different vendors to find a system that would work best for our house. Nearly all companies had the same set up but varying in prices. May electric was one of the most competitive in their proposal and the most responsive. They far exceeded our expectations and our timeline for project completion and was able to work with the power company to install the meter with little to no delay after solar panel installation. They also came out to troubleshoot our system a couple days after it went into operation to ensure that it was working at optimal capacity and with no issues. The installation was extremely clean and well laid out. No heavily visible cables on the roof and low profile roof mounts. All their work is done in house by their own people and no sub-contractors. Before anyone considers purchasing solar system in Tampa Bay and surrounding areas, I recommend getting multiple estimates and including May Electric as one of them. Nothing better than a local business with a owner who personally becomes involved in nearly every install he does.

After much research I decided to go with may elec. for my solar. they had the best product for the best price, the salesman Neil was very informative and answered all of my questions and then some, and I had many, even invited me out to one of there installs so I did and was very impressed. they have very knowledgeable employees that work very well together. the owner William even showed up on a Sunday to make sure all was good and completed the job. I am a contractor as well and familiar with the trade, William and his staff explained all the details and install sequences and made me feel very confident in the work they performed. the office personnel were awesome keeping informed of all the progress and what would be next in the process. May is the Way!!! We did extensive research on solar and talked with at least 5 different solar companies before we decided to go with May and we are extremely satisfied with our decision. Starting with Tom our salesman who gave us a completely customized, ON PAPER, view of our costs and savings if we went solar. He showed us based on our electric usage how solar was beneficial. He also showed us the layout of the panels on our roof and how the seasonal sun pattern made this the most efficient use of the solar panels. Other companies wanted to use parts of our roof that were not completely efficient. There was no pressure and at our request he came back again to answer a few more questions we had. We signed a contract that day. May is a local company and has their own crew which was important to us. Any issues go through them. Some of the other companies use sub contractors and the warranty and workmanship is not the same. On installation day Bill May, the owner of the company, was on my roof with his crew. Being a small business owner myself I understand the quality and pride that comes with it. You do the job right and they did! I observed the entire process and the crew answered any questions I had and were very professional. I am more than satisfied with my solar panels and installation experience with May Electric Solar. I am very pleased with May Solar! We have not paid Duke Energy a penny except the base fee since the system was installed almost 2 years ago. We looked at quotes from 5 companies before choosing May. We selected them based on price and quality of the product. The equipment we chose has the best warranty and are the best panels. They but the panels in bulk and passed the savings to us. In addition they were able to quickly install the system after we signed the contract. No delays. Also, if you have a question or need assistance they are a local company.

To start I am a retired Facilities Director with a large school district. I have been involved with over $100M dollars in new construction, renovations, modifications/replacement to existing systems and a design of a 15-gigawatt solar system. I have found May Electric to be competitive with their pricing to install a solar system for my home. I have interviewed over 6 solar companies of various skills, pricing, expertise, and management styles. From first contact to contract completion May Electric was extremely knowledgeable from beginning to end. They communicated everything that was going to happen from the start of the project to the end with turning the system on. Every step of the way May Electric kept in contact keeping me up to date at each step. I never had to guess what or when is the next part is going to happen. The only part they had no control with was when the power company was installing the solar meter. No contractor can tell you exactly when that is going to happen. Even then they were correct with the estimated time period the meter would be installed. Mine took 7 working days from when the system was ready too when the meter was installed.My observation of their instillation of the solar system was excellent. My experience from being a Facility Director enabled me to be critical of their work expertise, management styles, staff knowledge, organizational skills and communications. Mr. William May runs a tight operation with well trained staff. Mr. May is not only the Owner/boss but he also is in there working right along with his electricians and support staff. While they are working Mr. May takes the time to make sure the less trained staff are learning and working to his exacting standards. The group of workers all had a great attitude and work ethic during the instillation. In my opinion Mr. May knows how to do this better than most contractors out there.The last part was equipment selection. Mr. May over the years has decided to stick with Enphase Microinverter controllers and LG panels and offer a 25-year warranty on everything. With my research of the solar equipment suppliers/manufactures out there I think it is a winning combination. It is a rare thing to see a 25-year warranty on anything let alone electronic and solar equipment. In my opinion you cannot go wrong selecting May Electric Solar as your solar company to give you a long-lasting worry-free solar system to provide electricity to your home.Joseph Tobens

I met with William to go over my solar desires. I did quite a bit of research and for the most part I knew what I wanted. Whereas many other companies simply wanted to sell me what they normally do, I wanted what I felt was a good fit for my house. William then pointed out some things to enhance my design given his extensive knowledge. When I asked the other companies about his recommendations, they really could not speak to them as it was not the way they do it. My take on that is they can only do it a single way and they were not able to think outside the box. William was able to help me customize my setup to meet my specific goals. I am happy to say that my system was installed on July 27th. Since then, I actually have had a net credit of about $10. So no electric bill over the past 8 months. I am really happy with it! I am so happy, I am putting the same setup on my parents house and I am having William do the install too! You will not go wrong having May Electric do you solar system. I found them to be extremely knowledgeable, trustworthy and they also had great pricing. If you are interested in seeing my rooftop install, ask William to see Bobs install as it is on the 3 level of a stilt house and I have a circular stairway that goes up to it as it is on the same level as my crows nest which makes it easy to see the work they did. In the end it comes down to this. You will pay someone for electricity every day of your life. Also every day the sun is placing a $20 bill in your yard but the only issue is you can’t pick it up. May electric sells the glove you need to pick it up. That is your solar system so instead of paying rising electric company bills for the rest of your life you can buy a solar system and have a set price for your electric with an end to the payments. I had a 46 panel system installed. The work was completed in two days and now I am able to collect the suns cash that is dropped on my roof each day. Even on cloudy days my system is producing over my annual daily average consumption. I highly recommend buying solar and if you’re going to May Electric Solar is the best choice!

It took my neighbor’s blunder for me to truly learn how good May Electric is with solar systems.I purchased my system from May Electric in 2017 after vetting 6 different solar companies. I have been very pleased with the performance of the system and their craftsmanship. My appreciation of them grew exponentially after seeing what my neighbor went through.My neighbor is a business owner and is proud of his negotiating skills. I referred him to May Electric when he expressed interest in a solar system. He met with Neil as well as representatives from “yard sign” solar installers. In the end he did not go with May because of the deal he got.I witnessed firsthand the 3 to 4 days it required (over a month time frame) to complete the installation of a 20+ panel solar system. I also witnessed the 6 inspections that were required (over a 7 month period) to finally get the system approved. And to make matters worse for my neighbor, I saw the invoice and he paid more per watt than I did.I am able to refer May Electric to everyone with complete confidence that they will be as pleased as I am.

I had my system installed about two months ago. Very pleased with the total installation and the professionalism of the entire crew. The panels are performing as I expected. I feel this is a much better investment than most anything else out there with a ROI of about 5 or 6 years and essentially free power for at least 25 years, not to mention making my carbon footprint much smaller than what it would be otherwise. If youre putting in Solar, you cant go wrong with May Electric.

Bill May is a professional and reliable Master Electrician. Although no job is perfect, he and his knowledgeable crew did everything they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. Very pleased with my Solar. Still be a while before I get the full benefits as fall is not the best time for generating power, but its saving me hundreds already. Have a large 10.5 KW system with 35 (300W) solarworld panels with microinverters. His price was much more reasonable then another outfit I signed up with and subsequently cancelled. Per KW/W he was one of the cheapest out there but all steller reviews. Glad I found him! I also had him do a bunch of major electrical work I needed done to throw in with the project. Moving my meter, rewiring my Lift station and digging the trench for it, new CB panel. Great job! Oh by the way, I had to edit my review after seeing the previous post. he got permits for EVERYTHING and I had inspectors out here from the county 3 times as I noticed the previous reviewers comment regarding permits. Sounds like gossip and hearsay to me but in my EXPERIENCE that is not true. The reviewer said he is known not to get permits? that part is certainly not true for my case. I cant speak to all his other gripes but sounds like a disgruntled ex-employee to me trying to hurt his business. OSHA? come on.... everyone pushes some of those stupid rules I suppose they all should have a harness and a trapese net below them. LOL
