    Let me first say: We love our home! We have worked with Kathy and Erin for over a year, which was expected given that we continued to expand the scope of our renovation and that there was a supply shortage related to the pandemic. Throughout this journey with them, from the planning stage to construction, implementation, and review, we could not have been happier with our experience. Kathy, Erin, and Maughan Design worked hard to respect our budget while delivering an absolutely beautiful renovation. They were responsive to our concerns and feedback, going above and beyond to insure that we were happy through the ups and downs of our renovation; for instance, Kathy personally visited our home innumerable times to check on the progress of our home, answer our questions, and so forth. To boot, we were living on both the East and West Coasts, and Kathy and Erin went the extra mile to have extra eyes on our project while we were not able to physically be there.Overall, we are delighted with how our home turned out. We are thinking about doing additional work on our home in the future, and Maughan Design will, no questions asked, be the first people we call to touch up our home.

    Kathie and her team were wonderful to work with! When we requested bids for our living room remodel, we were really hoping to get responses from all bidders that would involve more around DESIGN ideas and COLLABORATION rather than just someone bidding out the stuff we shared without any discussion. Im lead to believe being a woman-owned business helped here, because the male bidders that showed up were a quick show-up-and-estimate process, and even came off as a bit mainsplainey toward my wife (when shes the one calling the shots here). Our project might not have been the biggest project from a cost perspective, but Kathies team approached it as if it were equal to their other jobs. Also, we LOVE the custom A/V cabinet we got from the project. Instant increase in resale value! Thank you Kathie and team!!!

    Sometimes life gets so busy you forget to do the things you ought to do and one of those things was leaving a review for Maughan Design & Remodel. My husband and I had a complete kitchen remodel over two years ago. In addition, we had new flooring put throughout our home, new lighting, etc. It was a big project for us to embark on and we chose Kathie Maughan after interviewing several remodeling companies.We were so pleased with every stage of the project. Kathie was a superb listener to every detail we were interested in and made the magic happen! Every team working on the project was amazing, respectful, informative and a delight to work with. We simply could not have asked for a better experience.Flash forward two years and we had an unfortunate situation with our main flooring that was installed. I hesitantly emailed Kathie to inform her of the situation not really expecting for anything to be resolved after two full years. Not a minute was wasted! She immediately reached out to the flooring company, forwarded some photos I had sent, and two representatives came out to take a look and decided that the floor needed to be redone - with new materials and labor - at no cost to us. I was beyond relieved!     Over the past year, we’ve worked with Maughan Design on our bathroom renovation, which involved carving out space from our master bathroom to create a second bathroom, while upgrading all aspects of the master including heated floors and a custom vanity. We also added wood flooring in 2 bedrooms.From beginning to end, Kathie and Ethan were wonderful to work with. From our initial design meetings to the execution of the plan, the team was communicative and thoughtful. We appreciated the recommendations they provided throughout the process. When we encountered challenges, they helped formulate a solution and resolved issues as quickly as possible. They ensured contractors were thorough and respectful of our home.     Once we decided to redo the kitchen our nextstep was to choose a design team. We choseMaughan. We called and set up an introductorymeeting. It went really well and we felt verycomfortable with our meeting. We put ourmoney down to seal our commitment to thiscompany. Kathie seemed like the perfect personto carry out our wishes. We had several homevisits with Kathie, and in her office. The tradesthat she uses were discussed and vetted to herhigh standards. We had other meetings in heroffice choosing the cabinets, hardware, countertops, backsplash etc.We were able to be our own contractor withsome of the work, We laid our own floors, didsome painting and was able to hire out some ofthe work ourselves. Kathie was very conscienceof our budget and allowed us to take on some ofthe work like the plumbing and we ran theelectricians. We also hired a separate group thatreplaced our sliding door and vaulted the oldkitchen ceiling.We went on a two-week vacation and the teamkept on working. When we returned all the funstuff started. The trades came and did theirwork in a timely manner as not to be in eachother’s way. I loved the work that was done byall of the trades. The main cabinet shop is herein town so getting from the shop to the housewas very easy.The carpenters and workforce worked extremelywell together. If one measured twice and gottwo different numbers, he asked another workerto measure and counted on each other to comeup with the right number. They were alwaysconsiderate of messes and cleaned up at the endof each day. They made sure we knew whenthey would arrive next time and what theyplanned on getting done. If a mistake was madeit was corrected promptly and finished toperfection. I was unhappy with one cabinet doorand after several folks, including Kathie, cameto see what the alternative would be we came upwith a plan and it was redone to my liking.A lot of the workers were named Chris (3 ofthem) which was fun and then there was Scottie.We can’t say enough good things about theseguys. Katherine, Crystal, and other folks werehere to keep an eye on the work and progress.We received notes of each time they came. Wereceived invoices in a timely manner.In the end we have the kitchen of our dreams.On time and on budget!!

    We are SO happy our neighbor referred us to Maughan Design & Remodel! We had been wanting to do a kitchen/family room remodel/expansion for several years, but had a couple failed attempts at finding a design that would get us what we wanted without completely rebuilding…Then in walked Kathie Maughan! I do not even know how to describe this, but during our first meeting it was clear she was the one who could listen, understand, and bring our vision to life. She clearly has some sort of special talent for visualizing what she has to work with and what her client wants to end up with – it was amazing to watch her analyze the current space and come up with creative and functional options.Then to learn we could count on her and her amazing team to take care of every detail from start to finish was so comforting. And speaking of her team – they are indeed super amazing! We feel extremely fortunate to have had them working to make our dream a reality these past several months – we truly cannot thank them enough. Oh, and we ended up doing more than originally planned (bathroom remodel, all new flooring, updated fireplace mantels, fresh paint everywhere, etc.) - so glad we did!We HIGHLY recommend Maughan Design & Remodel for any/all home remodeling needs – they are the best!

    We had a fantastic experience with Kathie, Niamh, Darryl and team. Our project was large and complex and what we appreciated most was the regular collaboration throughout the design, plan, build and finish process. They communicated regularly, anticipated challenges (with COVID and supply chain issues) and always found the fastest/best path forward without sacrificing quality. The quality of workmanship on cabinets, finish work, painting was stellar. Would recommend them without hesitation.

    I loved working with Kathie and Angie for kitchen design plans. We were debating on whether or not to work with a designer for our kitchen remodel. Since we are doing the work ourselves (my husband is a cabinet maker among other things), we werent sure if hiring a designer would really be necessary or worth the additional cost. After meeting with Kathie, we decided to go for it and we are so glad we did! Im detail-oriented and thought I had figured out most of the design elements already but soon realized there was so much more to think about and plan for than I had anticipated. Kathie also added so much value in enhancing the design I wouldnt have even thought of. This is huge considering Ive been thinking about my new kitchen for the last 5 years and have already done a lot of research. Now we have a complete set of very detailed construction plans and are so well prepared and ready to start. They say planning is the most important part of a renovation and its so true. We could not have done it without Maughan!

    We did a kitchen remodel in 2013 with Maughan Design and knew who to call when we were ready to update the rest of our house. Kathie is a master at redefining a space. She thinks outside the box and comes up with creative solutions. Cassidy is amazing with details and she and Kathie work seamlessly to put everything together and manage the team. We love the way they interviewed us to learn our preferences and lifestyle and come up with options. They were so patient and positive with us as we made so many decisions. We also had positive interactions with every one of their employees and sub-contractors. They have vetted well! They showed up on time and everything was tidied up before they left for the day. Even the challenges brought on by COVID were handled well. They are a group of capable, professional, and genuinely nice people. We highly recommend them.     Last Christmas my husband surprised me with a present of a complete kitchen remodel for our vacation home. Isnt that a great present? Well I was thrilled but worried. Our vacation home is 3200 miles away! How do you accomplish such a major remodel so far away? Sounds scary, right? Well my husband had researched designers and hired Maughan Design. Kathie and her team could not have been better. Kathie was a dream to work with. We had many phone consultations that included emailing ideas, design details and lots of pictures. Kathie interpreted my ideas with her great sense of style and practicality. All questions and concerns were handled quickly. The results exceeded my expectation and even the many pictures she had supplied of the progress. I could not be more pleased.

    My husband and I first worked with Kathie to design a kitchen for our first home, a 1888 Victorian Farmhouse. Since then, weve used her to design a bathroom upstairs, as well helping us choose a paint color for the exterior of our house. For all projects, she was willing to work with us so we could DIY some of the project, such as painting and tileing.I think Kathie is an exceptional designer, whose experience allows her to work quickly and creatively, delivering huge value to a project. She is excellent at communicating design concepts, thinks aloud, and brings you along for the ride. She truly listens to understand, and incorporates our wishes while never compromising good design. She has been invaluable in bringing modern comfort our old home while staying true to the period.

    We worked primarily with Lancea for the design and planning of our 1940s era kitchen renovation. Coming into the project our goals were #1 to add a dishwasher and #2 rejuvenate the kitchen and breakfast nook without destroying the existing charm. We were pretty hands-off and open minded; Lancea and Kathie came up with a tasteful refresh that seamlessly blended with the existing style. The project finished on time and on budget and the work crew was clean and professional. Communication with Lancea and the foreman was easy and timely. We ended up making one small change a few weeks after completion: we switched out a faucet which added a small additional cost. Otherwise everything went as planned. We have received compliments from everyone who knew our kitchen before. We would definitely work with Kathie and her team again, everything was planned and executed as expected and most of all we LOVE our kitchen!

    Kathie met us personally at the beginning of the project and was highly involved throughout every stage of the project. We were out of town often during the course of the project and I could always count on calls and emails several times a week and photos showing the progress of the project. Remodeling is expensive, but Kathies work and attention to detail is well worth the cost. I was most impressed by her teams professionalism! Everyone who came through the house over the course of the project treated our home like their own. Their protective measures were top-of-the-line and after each day the teams cleaned up to try to keep the dust down.Every time that we came home to view the home Kathie offered to meet us to give updates on the status and next stages. At the end of the project Kathie did a final walkthrough with us and the grand reveal left us speechless!! Even after the final walkthrough Kathie has always made herself and her team available to fix any problems that come up over the next 1+ year. She stands behind her work!We will most certainly use Kathie and Maughan Design again in the future!

    We had two projects in mind that involved opposite ends of our 1960’s built home. Kathie began with multiple, relaxed interviews with us, in which she gathered an impressive amount of information about how we live, how we use parts of our home, what are differences in taste between my husband and me, etc. When she got back to us with sample design options, we were downright gleeful at her ability to crystallize what we were each looking for, and her tactful way of pulling our disparate tastes and visions together into cohesive, practical design. And she did all that while keeping her eye on the vintage of our home, its innate style, so that in the end the newly remodeled rooms blended seamlessly into our existing, older home.The construction process was lengthy, but always clearly focused and sequenced out on a calendar in advance. We felt at ease with the security of our home, their efforts to minimize noise, keeping us informed at each step, as well as efforts to clean up at the end of each day. The individual workers from Maughn Design were, to the one, responsive, careful, courteous, and thoughtful in getting their work done while we were still living there. Finishing details drug out for several months after crews had moved on to other projects, and seemed to become lower priority, but I’ve never doubted that they would all get done. I trust that Maughn Design will be responsive to us if any issues might develop in the future, and that is a great reassurance.We’re very grateful to Maughn Design. For us, it was the right size firm for our job, and gave us creative planning and quality workmanship, done with financial clarity and complete trustworthiness. We really love the finished result!

    I contracted for a whole house remodel. Amazing company. Kathie, the company owner is reliable, honest good listener, and very intuitive. Kathie gets to know you as a client and by listening and begins to understand your asthetic. She asks questions to clarify her understanding of your requirements. I was presented with a notebook and a budget with options in cost and add ons if I so choose. She contracts with companies she has vetted and has had good experiences with in the past. All I had to do was make a call if I had a question or wanted to change my mind about anything it was done. The staff working in my house were respectful and personable. All deadlines were met and if there was a delay I was notified immediately and the reason. Delays were rare however. I now have a beautiful comfortable home. I am so happy.

    We hired Kathie (Maughan) after interviewing multiple contractors to renovate our loft in the Pearl District (original 1922 industrial building) from an awkward and chopped up office space into a place we could call long term home. Most important, our main home now is in Honolulu, HI and I needed someone I could trust long distance. I read many reviews about Kathie; most expressed their gratitude for communicating from distance, her attention to detail, and turn-key capabilities to do all work under a single contract. Her efforts were incredible including shipment of special reclaimed barn wood flooring from NY state, dealing with irregularities in sub floors, and most importantly, positively dealing with tenants in an office space below us that were impacted by the construction including falling debris and our plumbing that went into their space. A beautiful bathroom and laundry was also created including custom concrete countertops, deep Japanese style soaking tub, and creation of custom cabinets and doors from reclaimed truck bed wood. So unique and original; this place is now a gem. Kudos to Kathie & Maughan Design!

    We bought our condo 6 years ago and knew we wanted to make some changes to the kitchen and master bath. We talked to a lot of friends and neighbors to try to find the right designer/contractor and procrastinated. This spring we finally made the leap and are so glad we did. Maughan Design was wonderful and exceeded our high expectations. Kudos to Crystal, Darryl, Scottie, Matt, and Brian. Close and clear communication Understood our taste and planned with that in mind Good suggestions; wish we had listened to all of them Handled all the bureaucratic maze with the condo board, management company, and the city Did not change the footprint of our rooms, but the remodel yielded substantially more functional space, more storage, more accessible, and more attractive Minimized inconvenience; only one day without water in the kitchen; cleaned up every night to minimize the obvious dirt and chaos Assured that subcontractors (carpenter, plumber, glass people, tile people, painters) were top notch and met user friendly and quality standards Crews were always pleasant and prompt, talented, and went the extra mile Everyone made clear that they wanted to make sure everything was perfect After completion, small problems (appliances and tile) were addressed quickly and completelyThe project was finished on time and on budget. We couldn’t be more satisfied and would recommend Maughan without reservations.

    I love my new master bathroom! I was tempted to redo the bathroom myself but because it needed to be gutted I was scared to get in too deep. I’m so glad I found Maughan Design. They came up with a floor plan that I would’ve never imagined myself and was able to fit a large shower, overly large soaker tub, and a nice double vanity in what I thought was an impossible space. I really didn’t think it could be done. You can have as much or little involvement in the project as you’d like. I wanted to be hands-off so I picked a few finishes and then they handled everything. Great attention to detail, the timeline and cost was what they quoted up front, and they handled any issues that came up. The entire team was so easy to work with. I’ve hired many subs for small projects but I’ve never had workers clean the floor on their way out the door, every day! Very easy to have in my home.

    My wife and I hired Maughan Design to do a complete bathroom remodel and also the primary bedroom in 2022-2023. We could not be happier with the process and end result. We spent many months on the design which was very much a collaborative effort. We think Kathie was honest in her approach throughout. On our end we spent a fair amount of time coming up with a design that was more of an evolutionary process. The team was helpful during this time as we figured out just what we wanted. We should note that their expertise in woodworking and the tile subcontractors complex installation was beyond what we expected. The workspace was kept clean and disruptions were kept to a practical minimum. In the future we plan to use Maughan Design for another project.

    We recently took on our first remodel project (master bath) and hired Kathie Maughan to work with us on the project. While we had the choice of just having her do a design for us, we knew we wanted the added comfort of having her handle all the details, and had her manage the project as well. This was a really good decision. Kathie made sure we felt comfortable with every phase of the project and worked hard at correcting any issues that came up. She checked in almost every day and was always available to answer my questions (even on a Saturday at one point). But beyond the pleasure of working with Kathie, is the pleasure of working with her wonderfully conscientious crew. They answered questions, explained processes and were unfailingly friendly and courteous. This is a great bunch of people to have come into your home and leave a beautiful space behind. We are truly pleased with the results and will use Maughan Design again in the future.

The new design included many other details each of which led from a ho-hum to H O T kitchen!
