Winter, cold and before a major Holiday, basically the worst time to get a boiler replaced. Ranshaw quickly responded and provided me with prompt service. Their service technician Bill was a true professional and patiently explained all the steps and answered my questions. He educated me on the basic maintenance and to ensure best operation of the new boiler. They were done in a couple of hours. I would strongly recommend them.

I recently had plumber Hing as his teamate from Ranshaw Plumbing install an automated smart shutoff system and everything was smooth, fast, and pleasant as the other times they have helped. Broiler Replacement Experience - I called Ranshaw for an estimate and Richie came to the house, did a very thorough inspection, wrote a detailed plan of the job with precise measurements. He gave us a very fair price for the installation. Richie sent his team, Peter and Warren to do the work. It took a total of 6.5 hours. They were very professional and knowledgable and tested the boiler before leaving. They also cleaned up after completing the job. I have used Ranshaw before and would highly recommend them for all plumbing needs, but especially for big jobs.

Bill is a patient, knowledgeable heating service guy. He listened to my concerns and observations about how my gas boiler was working. He showed me where the boiler was leaking when it was running. Further, he had some theories about why the boiler lost water when it was off. When I mentioned I was reading a Dan Holohan book, The Lost Art of Steam Heating, Bill responded that he had taken a workshop with him and watched his videos. This gave me more confidence in what will be an expensive boiler replacement and possible return pipeline as well.

During Covid Ranshaw serviced my 94 year old mother’s apartment and resolved the problem. The receptionist Gigi was pleasant and helpful. Anthony as well. The technicians were very professional and knew what they were doing. When I told them my mother was on a limited budget the owner was compassionate and accommodated and adjusted the bill. On one occasion plumber Hing called me after hours to help me troubleshoot why there was banging in the pipes. That is why we are repeat customers.

I am very grateful for Ranshaw helping me out of a horrible situation with my oil burner. I had purchased a new oil burner a month earlier with my oil company. Since it was installed it wasnt working correctly in starting and stopping continuously all day. That is called short cycling caused by an oversized oil burner. I tried to get my oil company to fix it but they said they couldnt do anything. I then called Ranshaw because I heard that even though they sold their oil company, they might help me because they are the best. They sent 2 highly trained professionals who did a full diagnostic on my oil burner and wrote down solutions for my original oil company to correct. They were able to figure out how to fix it and my oil company will do what they suggested. Many thanks to Ranshaw for helping me when no one else could. God Bless them! Thank You!

Jan 2022: If I could give Ranshaw and the 2 guys who came to fix my boiler, Id give them 10 stars!! Arnold and Sean (Im sorry if I misspelled name), came as promised on time and followed requests. They listened attentively and gave their ideas, suggestions, and then went to work right away. They gave me the cost and it was reasonable. Their work on the boiler, replacing the circulator pump, flushing the the boiler, and other general checks was neatly and professionally done. Besides being professional and knowledgable, these 2 gentlemen were very polite. I will be using Ranshaw for maintenance and any future heating/plumbing issues.June 2022: Arnold and Joe came to provide a maintenance for my boiler. Very professional, polite, neat, and detailed in their work. Thanks for the great service!August 2024: Today, technician Bill came to give my boiler an annual maintenance. Very professional and gave professional advice on how to keep the boiler “healthy”. Also recommended a company to repair other possible heating issues. I used Ranshaw in 2023 as well. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! We had a drain line leak and Ranshaw was super responsive and sent someone over within 2 hours. Hing and Zimri were excellent and able to diagnose the issue pretty quickly. The drain pipe had broken inside the ceiling and they managed to repair it with care and minimal damage to the house. I can’t be more appreciative of their service, quality and commitment to getting it done.This is our second experience working with plumbers from Ranshaw, and both experiences have been excellent.

Hing, the technician that came out was so kind and friendly, knowledgeable (he has 30 YEARS experience) installed my kitchen faucet quickly and left everything as clean as when he arrived. His customer service skills were above and beyond what I hoped for. This was the second job this year I had hired Ranshaw for (first job was installing bathroom pipes which turned out just as excellent as this job did). They are my go-to plumbers. Bill was professional he knew what he was doing and explained it as he did his job. Bill would get 5 stars. My question is he said the installed circulator was generic and should be set at medium. Mine is At high? Is the correct and okay? Not bill’s fault but I do think $1,000 is high for a circulator installed and new thermostat and completed in less than 90 minutes. I don’t want to even see what that part goes for. I know I overpaid on the thermostat but I guess it’s done. The deposit is silly because are you really going to get another guy in there to see if the price is in the ballpark. No you’re going to go ahead with the job. Forget college boys. Become a plumber🤪

Just had a new boiler put in by Ranshaw and I wish I had known about these guys sooner. The igniter on my old boiler went out last winter and I called some random local guys that were terrible and severely overcharged me (predatory pricing because it was the middle of January). Before the winter hit this year I decided it was time to completely change out the 40+ year old unit and looked around to see who could do it right. Im so glad I found Ranshaw, both Richies ,yes there are two, were professional and knowledgeable. Im very happy with their service and wont be calling anyone else in the future. Do yourselves a favor and stop wasting time with local HVAC/plumbing guys that run a business from their basement. Theres a reason why Ranshaw has so many positive reviews vs the competitors.

Ranshaw rescued me from a botched plumbing job by a scam artist who claimed to be licensed - only he wasnt - his brother was and he did not do the job. The scammer got me fined by the city and a citation. He endangered my home to flooding from the sewer trap with a weak pipe fitting - the wrong fitting - and cemented the sewer trap like a 4 year old. Ranshaw corrected this really dodgy job and it passed city inspection. No other plumbers are going to do work in my home - only Ranshaw.

I contacted Ranshaw to get a second opinion on a quote from a previous plumber who wanted to charge $1,500 to replace a gas valve and other related parts to fix the pilot light. Ranshaws technician, Andy, arrived the same day, diagnosed the problem in seconds and made the repair in well under an hour. He had the necessary components in this service van and only charged $467.62. A savings of well over $1,000.We decided to have Andy look at repair work done days earlier by the same plumber at our other property. When we arrived, the basement felt like a sauna. Apparently, the boiler was on constantly and the pressure release valve activated several times. The previous plumber said the boiler wasnt igniting due to a faulty damper motor. They replaced the unit and allegedly cleaned the system, which they insisted on doing, otherwise they wont guarantee the work. The boiler was operating when they left as they used a jumper wire to keep the boiler turned on. We were charged $2,052.29 for this repair. Later that night, a tenant called and said the apartment was unbearably hot and that the boiler was belching stream like a locomotive. I turned off the boiler and called the technician that serviced the system. They came the next day and said the problem was a faulty pressure relief valve. We were charged another $475.00 for a repair that was caused by the previous repair.Fortunately for us, Andy was able to diagnose the problem and charged just $918.91 to correct the problem for $1,500 less than what we were charged by the scam artists posing as plumbers. I dont even know if they are even licensed. Rest assured that moving forward, we will be using Ranshaw for all our plumbing concerns. I will be reaching out to the other plumbing company for some sort of compensation and will update this review with the name of the company if they dont offer some type of monetary compensation.Update: 12/6/24We were experiencing a heating problem that needed a quick solution. Ranshaw sent William to address the problem. He patiently and meticulously bled trapped air from each zone and checked the corresponding apartments until the problem was resolved. Once again, Ranshaw came through for us.

This review may be a bit late but as I go through my invoices and records as the year draws to an end, I wanted to make sure to mention that Ranshaw Plumbing and Heating really saved the day for me back in September, and I would recommend them highly to anyone looking for a quality plumbing service in the area. My old water heater sprang a leak that managed to flood the basement. It was pretty awful but I called Ranshaw and the wonderful Gigi really helped me out, calmed me down, and got service to my house the next morning. Gigi, you are the unsung hero of Ranshaw! I hope they know what a gem they have in you. The Ranshaw crew showed up promptly and got everything fixed quickly and efficiently. They also replaced a valve that would not close all the way (which added to the flooding woes), installed the new water heater and took the old one away so I did not have to deal with that. Now the hot water is great and plentiful, heats up right away. I only wish I had called them BEFORE the leak! But thats on me, and Ranshaw really helped alleviate a bad situation quickly, which was and is much appreciated.

Called at 10am, Valarie got all the information and details she needed, before she hung up she said Welcome to the Ranshaw family. I asked her to have someone come after 12pm. Got a call at 12:30pm, someone is on the way. At 12:45pm Arnold showed up at my front door.Love that it was not a sales person, love that my issue was resolved, love that I was explained everything, love the professionalism, love the fact that when I was talking to Arnold you can tell he loved working for the company & the family that owns it. I have been a customer of Ranshaw Plumbing & Heating for over 40 years. They have always given me courteous service and extremely reliable. They are a family operated company which is why they will go out of their way for you to meet your expectations. In todays times, it is very hard to find a company that has hard workers and also if they care about you and what needs to be done on your job. My oil burner just went on me but gave me about 35 years of service. I had to replace my oil tank which was a big job, but the mechanic and crew were hard workers and did a great job. I also had to replace my oil burner and they had to run a new line so basically I had to replace everything. The mechanic and crew were at my home for two days. I never saw such dedicated, hard workers like this before. My husband and I are very happy with the job they did. I highly recommend this company if you need to put in a oil burner or gas heat in your home. Everyone that works there is pleasant and they will make sure you are satisfied and your expectations have been met. This is a company that once you try them, you will stay with them for many years. We called Ranshaw and was able to get a fast appointment. We had an original trap in one of our bathrooms. Initially, we thought that Josh and his partner could drop a new sink in but after a careful review of the situation, Josh advised us that the current vanity may not hold up, that too, was an original. He gave us several quotes and the one that worked best was in line with that we thought, buy a decent but inexpensive vanity with a new sink.I was able to purchase one the same day and when we called the company back, there was a cancelled appointment and Josh was able to come back! He and his partner carried the new vanity in for us and they did a beautiful job! New trap and newly installed vanity.I would highly recommend this business to anyone who expects and, receives top notch service. I have dealt with a lot of various plumbers regarding my heating system over the years, most disregarding whatever I would say and hurry up to just satisfy the call rather than diagnose. Cant say that about Ranshaw and Bill. Not only did he listen to everything I said, he was able to diagnose the root cause of the problem, which was just something both of us did not expect. He took his time and ensured that everything was working, testing to make sure there were no further issues with any other portion of the system. The only thing i regret is not calling Ranshaw sooner! Great company, extremely professional, and great service!

One of the services not listed and they did an excellent job with was to install brand new gas lines throughout the whole house due to a major gas leak. In addition, removed all old gas lines and old meters plus had to relocate meters due to new city codes.The job Pete, lead mechanic, and his crew did was very professional, clean and just impeccable. Pete was as professional as they come, friendly and very knowledgeable. Hes strict with his crew and always expecting the best from them. If theyre not aware of something, hell explain it to them and show them to do it the right way. Ive been meaning to write this review for a while. I hired Ranshaw to replace my extremely old behemoth of a oil burning furnace months ago and I could not be happier!First off, I initially spoke with Anthony over the phone who was the kindest most thorough person and explained the procedures and pros and cons of converting to gas from oil. After which, Richie came to do my consultation and spent over an hour at my home inspecting, assessing and addressing each of my questions and concerns.When it came time for the job it span the course of 4 days since asbestos removal was also involved. Each one of the technicians were extremely polite, thorough and professional. They installed a water heater as well since it was a bit cheaper to bundle it with the furnace. All in all, I highly recommend them and am so grateful for the hard work, professionalism and just humanity that they provide with their service. Additionally their pricing was competitive if not better than the next leading company. You will not be sorry you chose Ranshaw!

Not only was he meticulous during the installation, he was able to walk me through his thought process and the actual installation.In my experience, any regular plumber can come do work, but rare are the ones who can keep you in the loop throughout a job, answer questions and address any other concerns all at the same time. Hing and Angel were prompt, professional and a pleasure to work with - they even went the extra mile to sweep and clean up debris. Richie of Ranshaw detailed the extensive changes needed to bring my 70 year old house up to code to get gas turned back on in middle of winter. He was upfront about costs, time frame and difficulties to be met. Richie was highly knowledgeable and competent in getting permits and plumbing requirements, all done in a timely manner. His people gutted the boiler room and removed all debris. Required chimney work was outsourced. Replaced boiler, hot water heater, all pipes and related parts, then insulated all, replaced gas stove, rerouted gas lines and moved meter to approved distance. Contractor suggested for opening ceiling and elsewhere for rerouting new pipes and to protect gas meter. Richie oversaw the whole process. So very grateful for his help and all his workers including office staff. Very competent, polite and clean. Highly recommended!

I had a very good experience with Ranshaw. I need to replace my water heater and called to inquire about an estimate. Their receptionists were very professional, as well as Richie, who was more than helpful with scheduling the service call. Although they were a little pricier than I expected, it was worth it in the end. Hing came out to replace my water heater and was very efficient, polite, and helpful. He explained everything that he was doing, along with some extra unexpected work that he did not charge me for. Afterwards, he and his helper made sure to clean everything up and not leave a big mess. I would definitely use them and would not hesitate to recommend in the future.

As some may know, any building that has above 5 apartments requires that city codes and regulations be followed. Richie Bonelli was my contact at Ranshaw from the start and oversaw the entire project from beginning to end: from getting the permits, performing the job, arranging the inspection, to the city sign off on the job. My husband and I have been Ranshaw customers for more than 16 years at our home in northeast Queens. We first met the AMAZING master plumber HING in 2021 when we called Ranshaw for some plumbing repairs. When we were ready to have a new vanity and faucet installed, Hing exceeded our expectations. So in the summer of 2023, when my elderly, ailing mother needed to have a long-delayed list of repairs and issues resolved at her Bronx home near the bridges leading to Ranshaw’s base in Whitestone, I reached out to Hing. I was relieved that he was still with Ranshaw and was willing to work with me to come up with a two-day plan. From August till November, Hing and I texted, emailed, and phoned so that when he arrived with his helper on Nov. 2 and 3, he knew exactly what he needed to do and had all the tools and equipment to do it in his super-organized truck.Hing’s preparation and attention to detail are AWESOME. If I could give him more than 5 stars, I would! He has many years of experience, and he is a CREDIT TO HIS PROFESSION who will offer his opinion and why he recommends a course of action. I sent Hing photos of our faucets, pipes, and drains that needed work, and I put him on speaker phone so that my mom could hear his suggested approach for how to tackle everything. Hing offered guidance on what features to look for in potential bathroom and kitchen faucets. He asked lots of questions and sometimes for more photos to verify how things were set up since installing new faucets meant also installing new piping for the best fit and function. Hing replaced faucets and piping in the kitchen, main bathroom, and half bathroom. He cleared the drains in the bathtub that had been clogged for years, and he cleared the traps for the outside drains in the front and back of the house that were causing overflows and flooding after doing laundry and after heavy rain.Throughout both days, HING WAS PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, THOUGHTFUL, AND CARING. He told me in advance what the maximum cost of the work would be, and he kept his word. It wasn’t cheap, but it was a lot of work, and he’s a PERFECTIONIST who made sure everything that he touched was fixed to his and our satisfaction. And he was very sensitive to my mom’s situation. She was very pleased when I showed her photos of the newly installed faucets, and she lost her cancer battle the following week. Soon after I texted Hing that I thought my mom had waited for him to complete all the plumbing repairs to be done before dying. HING WAS OUR PLUMBING ANGEL! I’m very grateful for Hing since I’m still at my mom’s house working on sorting through her estate, and every time I admire one of the new faucets or do a load of laundry, I think of him and smile. We recently had a recurring problem with our shower. The unit was a complicated one made by Grohe, and it was about 20 years old. Hing had serviced it before, but this time we decided it needed to be replaced. Therefore, Hing needed to remove the old tiles and make room for a new shower body. He did this with great care so as not to damage too many tiles. Now, with the new shower and replacement tiles in place, you would never know it was patched. Also, it was nice to receive a follow-up call from Hing a few weeks later to make sure everything was working properly. We were very pleased with the work.

Hing was sent to my house and could not have been more professional, took the time to listen to all my issues, walked through the problem as he saw it step by step, didn’t waste time, was receptive of my questions and helped me come up with a game plan to solve my issue. Hing is clearly knowledgeable about steam heating, cares about the customer and isn’t trying to fix things that aren’t broken. Located in Queens: I called Ranshaw for a leak in my basement that was located underneath the first floor bathroom and a defected tub faucet , it was an emergency and behold 2 hours later Hing and Joe showed up. Their customer service was exceptional and informative. They got started right away in trying to figure out what was causing the leak. Apparently, the plumbers that originally installed our bathtub cut the trip lever too short which caused the leak. Hing and Joe replaced the lever by using the crawl space underneath the tub in our basement which was not an easy job. We also inquired about another issue in our bathroom, Hing gave his honest opinion about the level of work needed and allowed us to determine whether or not it was a priority at the moment. Although this company can be a bit pricey, I find it is worth the peace of mind knowing you have servicemen who are trustworthy and reliable. I will definitely use this company in the future.

REFERENCE TO INSTALLING A NEW OIL TANK.After literally months of dealing with companies that install oil tanks for home furnaces I needed up right back where I started from.I was now staring at a blank wall and seemingly had gotten nowhere for one reason or other. Truly trying to get someone to install a new oil tank border on the verge of lunacy. Overpriced, cash only, no warranty, can’t doit now or for several months etc. Double talk, Outright lying and more. So out of the blue through a friends next door neighbor, a Steve Greenberg, who just happen to be a contractor I got two names. I called the one that was closest to me. The companies name was Ranshaw and I spoke with a Richie Bonelli. He came out immediately and I feltInstantly that he was the real deal, honest and intelligent. The gut instinct proved me right down the road. I shown him that the only way to get a tank inside the house was to lift it onto the countertop and then slide it off down the cellar stairs. BTW, all the other companies I had here, poo pooed it out of hand and immediately doubled the weight of the tank which I already knew was dead wrong. Richie listened and thenasked to check the side door which I knew a tank would never fit through. He retrieved two flat disks from his vehicle the shape of the endsof a tank. At first it wouldn’t fit but then he did some adjustments and in it went. His price was under everybody else’s by over $600 to $700A week later with a crew of 4-5 workers the tank was in with all new fittings, exhaust and receive pipes all new. They bled the lines and I wasup and running and now can take hot showers.What can I say, it simply doesn’t get better than this and my instinct proved correct and I am more than pleased. No welding, a brand new tankThat works perfectly.Thank you Richie, Ranshaw and you are true gems.

After been flat out refused to be helped by 2 different plumbers with no heat in the artic deep freeze this last week. I called Ranshaw Plumbing &Heating they answered so polite and helpful on the phone. They sent Bill Bitel. Bill Bitel explained everything that needed to be done said it would take about 1 hour. That visit we did get some heat but by morning it was ice cold again. Next day I called and explained still not working could they come again after 1 pm. About 11 am got call from my neighbor my boiler set off water alarm in basement, I called Ranshaw again told them that my boiler had set off water alarm in my basement. They sent Bill Bitel over again by 11:45 he was already working on before I got there. A valve burst he fixed then came to apartment said that it must a frozen pipe in my bedroom wall put heater in room and with temperatures rising hopefully it will thaw and not burst. Well Saturday they called me asking if heat started working yet. I said only in front half house still nothing in bedrooms and bathrooms. About an hour later mr bonelli called again saying he was sending Bill over again they had an idea. Bill came said they had found out some information about my development and knew how to fix the problem. I am so happy to have called Ranshaw Plumbing & Heating that they showed up fixed things came back to fix other issue that happened faster and followed up on how I was doing. I couldn’t have been in better hands. Thank you Bill and Ranshaw for taking care of us.

House was 50 degrees Saturday morning. Called Renshaw without a service contract. Brent, the service tech, arrived within 2 hours. He immediately started a methodical process of going through the electrical flow of the boiler circuitry. Within 15 min he had identified the issue, and another 15 min later the boiler was up and running.I appreciate the fact that Brent demonstrated expert knowledge of the boiler, and that he was efficient and effective with his thought process which expedited the resolution of the issue.One note about Renshaw. They installed this boiler last winter, so it’s less then 1 year in service. The boiler intermittently would not fire up last season, but they did not come back to the house to determine the cause. They told my sister in law that the issue was related to radiator leaks. Turns out that the issue we experienced this and last season was related to a pressure sensor which required some adjusting. Hopefully that was an honest mistake, and not intentional to generate a service call.So it’s 5 stars for Brent / service, but would be closer to 3 stars for Renshaw / installation supervision.

On january 2,2018 your service technician arrived at my home in collegepoint to trouble shoot a problem with my gas burner/steam heat system! after a brief discussion regarding problem Hing performed numerous checks of appliance.my concern was that automatic water feed was malfunctioning and system may overheat. all equipment was satisfactory. two radiators shutoffs were in closed position, due to age steam still seeped through shutoff, also air valve replaced. later i found another air valve leaking and replaced. operator error, perhaps? h;owever the knowledge of steam heat systems that Hing had was evident to me in first 5 minutes!!! i have been homeowner of several homes with steam and baseboard heating for more than 30 years.i have become very aware how tempramental the systems can be. it is without a doubt your technician Hing has great knowledge and understanding of how the steam heat system should work efficeintly!!! what a pleasure!!!
