    I needed a gas line capped and multiple hangers to secure the gas line when my tenant moved out and created a potentially dangerous situation because he unsafely disconnected his clothes dryer himself. I picked Barter Plumbing at random on google due to their proximity and 5 star rating. Earl answered the phone right away when I called and was able to stop by and assess the situation within a hour which was a very pleasant surprise. He completed the work the next day and was very communicative with me throughout keeping me fully informed of his progress which was much appreciated since I live 2 hours away. He took care of the permitting and inspection also which was also very much appreciated. Highly recommend!

    My shower was not working since Wednesday and the bozo my landlord sent to repair did not seem experienced, was a no show the first appointment, and was not able to fix the issue when he did show up. It was Saturday at this point and the shower was still broken.The landlord agreed to let me find someone. Boy, was I glad to find Earl. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest, and knows what he is doing. He came exactly on time, diagnosed and repaired the issue same day. His prices were more than reasonable. I would say he even under charged for the work he did. I will definitely be calling Earl for any future issues I have.

    Earl was an absolute pleasure to work with. Cannot recommend him enough. I had an issue with my garbage disposal, he easily diagnosed the problem, provided various solutions, and promptly fixed everything. Earl went out of his way to help and was completely transparent.     Earl was fantastic! I discovered that my garbage disposal wasnt working- I had given Barter plumbing a call (on a Sat before a long weekend), not expecting anything until the next business day. Not only did Earl call back, but was able to fix the issue within 2 hours the same day. He was friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to call him again for any future plumbing issues.

    Calling a plumber is definitely not my favorite thing to do. I always expect to be overcharged or have more work done than should have been done. After working with Earl it’s a different story! He was able to fit me in quickly and he did it right the first time with very fair pricing. The next time something goes wrong I won’t have to dread the phone call!

    Had a kitchen faucet leakage issue. Called Earl and unfortunately there were some miscommunication issues and things were not smooth initially. But Im glad Earl was responsive and trying to fit us in his tight schedule. In terms of job: nothing I can complain about. He not only replaced the broken faucet but also some old pvc pipes and water shut off. I would definitely use him again in future.

    Earl is the best plumber Ive ever seen. Very talented, but also very genuine and honest. He installed an oil burner and hot water heater in my old 100 year old house, which required cutting and retrofitting lots of pipes, and he did an amazing job. A few years later, I had an old radiator that froze and burst in the basement...a potential disaster...and Earl came over and fixed it in one day. He is a magician with the wrench, and also a great person to do business with...highly recommended!

    Very responsive, great to have someone local that can react quickly.Update - 2nd review. Earl was recently able to diagnose and repair a leaking shower pan. Very good communication, he kept me posted with updates on the progress of the work. He also was very good at cleaning up the work area each night. Earl is very professional and responsive.

    I ended up contacting Earl after 2 other plumbers blew me off and I am so glad I did. He arrived when he said he would and took the time to figure out the leak we were having in our shower.     Earl is amazing. Kind, knowledgeable, does good work and really cares about doing it well and taking care of people. Came for a leak in a major drain and replaced a whole section, then identified several potentially dangerous problems a previous plumber has left with a defunct boiler and took care of everything for a very fair price. Highly recommend!

    I woke up at ~6:15am to find that we had no hot water since our hot water heater conked out overnight. On top of that the prior homeowners never put the tank in/on a drain pan, so water got underneath the vinyl tile (tank sits on the finished ground floor / in-law suite). Barter was one of the four companies I called. I left everyone voicemails. The first company that got back to me gave me what seemed to be a high price. Earl called me back shortly after and gave me a phone estimate but also scheduled a time to come see the issue in-person. Ultimately, his pricing was right around everyone elses pricing (except for that first company whose price was nearly 2x everyone else!). I went with Earl because he was the only plumber who carved the time to come see the issue in-person same-day so he could firm up his estimate before giving me a final price. He clearly knew his stuff and explained to me what my options were and what his work was going to entail. He was super friendly and gave me advice on addressing the moisture underneath the vinyl tiles ASAP as if it was his own home that he didnt want to get damaged. Despite having had a busy day, he got a new heater and installed it before the end of the day. After the install, our kitchen faucet had low hot water pressure, so he came back the next day to unclog a piece of rusted metal (likely from the old tank) from our faucets hot water hose. He addressed the low hot water pressure in the downstairs kitchen as well. Come to find out we just need to replace the downstairs kitchen faucet, but it was helpful to have him troubleshoot that for us, so I know that when I replace that faucet the issue will be resolved. He even repaired the downstairs bathroom hot water faucet, which wasnt on his list of to-dos but he could tell it needed a new seat and spring kit. Hes a smart & personable guy who clearly likes helping people and cares about offering top notch service. 10/10 will call Earl again when I need a plumber!

    I had my furnace go out with a toddler at home, and couldnt find anyone available to do an emergency call until the next day. Earl was recommended to me via malden Facebook group. He picked up, I told him the situation and he was here in 15 minutes. He came right in, diagnosed the problem, found the issue, and got it fixed quickly. Very nice local guy and knows what he is doing.

    I called Earl to diagnose an issue with spotty hot water in my shower/tub. He was immediately responsive, friendly and easy to work with. He initially walked through a number of temporary solutions but recommended eventually installing a hot water heater to supplement my combi boiler. I appreciated that he didnt immediately pitch the most expensive option and the temporary solutions worked for a time, but I ended up having Earl back to install the water heater. He was transparent about pricing, committed to a dedicated timeframe relative to the size of the job, timely and responsive throughout. The install both looks and functions great, truly a game changer here at the house. If youre looking for a local plumber running an honest business, look no further than Earl.

    Earl is the kind of technician that truly cares about doing things right that you can really appreciate. I had multiple projects serviced by him, and he always communicated clearly the pros and cons on different approaches to me. He also optimized the system such as securing gas pipe, decoupling the gas pipe from electric box, and adding valves to match the newer building codes for a better safety with very reasonable charge.I wish you a very successful business Earl!

    Earl Barter helped me not only figure out what was wrong with my toilet but he also did an excellent job fixing it. He even cleaned up the area when he was done!Because of Earls excellent work with my toilet I have hired him to fix the tubing on my boiler that was leaking. Again he was very professional and charged a fair amount for the work. There have been no further leaks. I highly recommend him for any of your plumbing needs!

    Earl was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. We called him to repair a leak in a pipe junction leading to an old steam radiator. It turned out to be an easy fix. So, in order to justify his minimum charge (which was much more reasonable that what weve paid to other area plumbers in the past), he took time to inspect our boiler system in the basement, consult on an older drain pipe in the basement that I was concerned about, and helped me locate a hard-to-find replacement part for our kitchen faucet online. He did all of this in a little over an hour. He is very generous with his knowledge, and genuinely wants to help people and be a good neighbor.He was also very respectful of our property and pets, taking care to put on booties before entering our house (his choice, not our request), and cheerfully greeting our cats upon entering. He was also very mindful of our cats while coming and going to get equipment from his van.I cant recommend Earl highly enough! He is going to be our go-to person for our plumbing and heating needs from now on.
