    I just had the BEST customer service experience and service! My heat abruptly stopped working (very hard on me and my cats!). I called multiple vendors, all who could understandably not come out on the same day. When I called John Owens Services, their dispatcher was so kind to understand my predicament and somehow, she arranged for a serviceman to come same day! Special thank you to David, who arrived and quickly diagnosed the problem. The fix required a part and instead of scheduling the repair for a later date, David was incredibly kind to go and purchase the part, then return to complete the repair. This meant so much to me! You just don’t find this kind of customer service often, but when you do, it requires a shout-out, a big thank you, and all my business and referrals. Thank you again to everyone at John Owens, and thank you so much, David!

    John Owens Services is wonderful to do business with. They communicate clearly, show up when promised, do an excellent job, and go the extra mile, attending to even small details.     My experience with John Owns Services Inc. was excellent. My wife and I work in real estate and will be recommending them to anyone in the area. From start to finish they worked smooth and efficiently. From the estimate with Ray, who came out a day after I made the call. Ray also was very helpful, gave me his contact info so if/when questions came up, and responded quickly. The office team was helpful with Kristina being available for finance and project questions, also offered great discounts. They sent an excellent install team of Jario, Tommy, and Tim who got the job done FAST, and in the rain I might add. Super friendly people with Bay Area Ties.     John Owens Services just installed a new heat pump space heater/cooler in our home, and we are really happy with their work! We ordered a 3-ton ducted system with an outdoor Mitsubishi SUZ-KA36NA2 condenser and an indoor Mitsubishi SVZ-KP36NA air handler, shown in the attached photos. The John Owens team was very thorough with this job, doing load calculations for each room and a blow test on our ducts to determine the best solution for us before they got the contract. Their discipline and ingenuity set them apart from other bidders. They had also installed our heat pump water heater a few years ago, and we appreciated the quality of their work and follow up. Finding a great contractor to electrify your home can take time and due diligence, but it makes a big difference in the end. So we highly recommend them for heat pump installations in the North Bay!

    Last year John Owens Services replaced our ancient Bryant gas and electric heating and air conditioning system with a 3 ton Mitsubishi heat pump system. We love the new system! It has worked flawlessly to provide comfortable heating and A/C throughout the entire year. And this comfort is essentially free, as the electric power needed is provided by our rooftop solar system. The process included sales, design, permitting, installation, and applying for rebates, and every step of the way the John Owens people were pleasant and professional. We would highly recommend them to take care of any HVAC needs.

    John Owens is THE heating contractor for Marin, Petaluma and Santa Rosa. We are in West Marin and they installed a new Renai Demand heating system for our 1981 home with old baseboard hot water heating system. A complicated setup but they sent three professional heating plumbers to install it in one day. A year later, Tim O’Brien has just come out for a complementary visit to inspect and add more compound and everything is working perfectly! We could not be happier! A highly professional company!

    I was surprised to discover that 2 other plumbers had told me I needed to replace my whole sink, but Abel was able to fix it for me at a fraction of the cost I was expecting. Those same other plumbers also told me I didn’t have a water main shut off and they could put one in for me. Abel found mine and showed it to me. Very helpful!

    The receptionist at John Owens answered the phone on the third ring and gave us an emergency Saturday appointment for an inoperative hot water heater for the following morning. The technician/installer, William, arrived on time, listened to my explanation of the issues, conducted a thorough test of the heater circuitry, etc. and gave me 3 options to consider. We decided to replace the 16 year-old water heater and asked about the rusty brown water that would often come out of the faucets. William replaced our old water heater, installed a new drip pan and outlet line to bring us up to code. He also figured out that the rusty brown water was coming from a never used solar water heater on our roof that was draining into the system and capped off those lines. Though not inexpensive, the whole experience was great and we have very hot, CLEAN water coming out of our faucets less than 24 hours after calling for help! Top-rate service from John Owens!!

    I have used John Owens twice since I have moved back to Santa Rosa and will rate his business 5 star both times. Office personnel are polite, responsive and follow up. The first experience I had was right after buying a house and the water heater had a leak and needed replacing. The house insurance company sent two different plumbers out who didnt know a thing. I finally just looked up a local and happened to choose Owens. We had been without hot water for 10 days. He cancelled his next day weekend activity and replaced our water heater.The second time it was the furnace. The technician was David Caron, perfectly on time when he said he would arrive, was more than happy to talk to me about everything he was checking, completely cleaned up any anything. Just an all round great experience.

    We have used John Owen’s for all the things… but really. Our air conditioner broke last summer during a heatwave and their team came out to help us pick what was right for our family. We’ve also had plumbing / bath tub help from them. They are the friendliest crew I’ve ever interacted with! They are knowledgeable, communicate any changes / updates in a timely and professional manner. Truly a great customer service experience every time. They are pricier than others, however you get what you pay for! And at this time in our lives, paying a little more for a seamless experience is worth it.

    Had a visit from Cody to check the duct work in our attic and the air flow problem that we had to a couple of upstairs room. Cody was great. He was super communicative about his assessment and recommendations for resolving our issues. I know its probably common practice now - but it was nice to get an MMS with an ETA and a photo of the technician before our scheduled visit.     So far I’ve had excellent service from John Owen’s and have no reason to believe it will change going forward. Beginning with Anita, in the scheduling and information department-she was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and patient in explaining answers to my questions. She was my first point of contact and that experience gave me the confidence to move forward. Then Cody, the service technician, came to the house and he was great too. He was professional, efficient with his use of time, he explained things to me about the system in ways that helped me fully understand.     After several years of experiencing our gas fireplace break down, we contacted John Owens Services, and it was one of the best decisions we have made for our home! Alex came out promptly, closely assessed our situation, and provided several heat pump options w/ different price points. He did such an awesome job of answering our questions as we made a decision, preparing us for the install, visited on Day 1 of the work and even returned when we had questions on how to maximize our new system and tailor it best to our needs.     We were really concerned when we saw a large water leak coming from our water heater in the late evening.     Today I had a plumbing emergency when an outdoor tap would not turn off. The person who answered at John Owens Services San Rafael was friendly and helpful, and, after working some scheduling magic, he was able to send a tech out to me within 2 hours. The plumber, Will Isaak, was quick, knowledgeable, and pleasant to talk with. He replaced the faucet, then offered to check my other pipes, since he was here, and did not try to upsell me.     These guys are amazing, and yes this is a real review. Every other plumbing company quoted over $2700 more For work John Owens did for $1200. Super easy to work with, honest as the day is long. They get in they get the job done they don’t take their time working all day for a 20 minute job and charge you for hours of labor. They did a wonderful job knocked it out in 30 minutes and charge me an amazing price. I will always use these guys I will never use anyone else ever again. Highly recommend them

    Our new split air system was not working properly and Cody came our to assess the situation. He was very personable and an excellent diagnostician.     I highly recommend this company. Its so refreshing to experience great customer service again. So many companies are failing in this.John Owens was 1 of about 4 companies I called late on a Friday afternoon when our local temps hit over 100 the first time this season and our A/C stopped working. They had the earliest availability but also good reviews already which I use as a guideline.Mercedes answered the phone even though I called 5 minutes before closing and was very patient and helpful with my questions. Cody showed up on-time on Monday and was also good at explaining what he was doing and what was wrong (the capacitor quit). Hes knowledgeable and genuine.. the real deal. No hard sell to replace our 10 yr old unit which another company had pushed during a maintenance check the year before. Good value--I looked up capacitor replacement prior to his arrival as I thought that could be the issue and they were in range for the replacement cost.Im so glad I have this company to call on for any future issues, knowing Ill receive honest and quality work.

They also did a complimentary check on the rest of the house plumbing and found and fixed a problem with the water pressure to the house.     Our Furnace went out, and I decided to give John Owens services a try given all the positive reviews. I have to say they lived up to the reviews. The woman who answered the phone was very helpful, and I had my appointment scheduled within minutes. Shortly after I was sent a confirmation email with a name and photo of my technician- Chris Burke. The next morning Chris showed up right on time and on point. He was extremely professional and friendly. Given my furnace was 30 years old, I appreciated his thoroughness in checking all the components, not only the failed piece to ensure the safety of my family. He clearly knew what he was doing and wasted no time in getting it up and running! It’s been running smoothly ever since! At times it seems like it can be hard to find honest professionals that take pride in their work and have integrity.     Eight days ago the thermostat quit working. The heating system in our condo is 40+ years old and kind of unusual in that it uses the hot water heater as a boiler. Six other businesses declined coming over after I described the system. When I tried John Owens Services, they said they were willing to check my heating system out and repair it if possible. They asked me to send pictures of our heating system. After they looked at the pictures they said one of their technicians was familiar with this kind of system and we set up an appointment. The technician replaced the old thermostat quite quickly and once again we had heat!

    I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the timely, honest, and professional service that was provided to me by John Owens Services and their HVAC technician Chris.Two days before Thanksgiving our 22 year old furnace decided to stop working and I called a couple of companies to try and get it diagnosed and repaired before the holiday. One company (not John Owens) was able to come out that day and diagnose the problem, however they provided me with a quote for $1600 to repair and informed me that it would be at least a week before they could address the issue. Since I had already scheduled an appointment for the Saturday after Thanksgiving I elected to do some research on my own and have John Owens Service to come in to provide a second opinion. I am so thankful I did.Chris arrived on time and was extremely professional. I informed him that I had done some research and even purchased a replacement motherboard (the point of failure) for our furnace but wanted to see what he thought about the situation. He confirmed the board was the point of failure and that I had purchased the correct replacement unit. After performing a thorough inspection of our furnace, Chris installed the board I purchased and then took the extra step of educating me on how to keep this old furnace running safely. Heat exchangers can fail as units age and pump CO into the house if not properly monitored. Chris recommended that I purchase CO monitors for the house to keep tabs on the condition of the furnace while keeping me and my family safe. No one else took the time to discuss these issues with me and I consider that potentially life saving advice. Heres what I learned in this one service call:1. John Owens is committed to putting the customer first and not simply upselling you to things you dont need or padding their estimates.2. Their technicians are not commission based and therefore do whats necessary to provide you with great service.3. They are personable, thorough in their work, and willing to take the time to educate their customers on how to get the most mileage out of existing products.4. They are my new go-to-guys for all HVAC and plumbing services.Thanks to Chris and thanks to John Owens himself for understanding how to build a top notch and customer-centric business. I know where Im going when its time to buy a new furnace!

    We have been a John Owens Services customer for years, living in an Eichler in Lucas Valley. We were always happy with their work. We recently moved into a new house, one that has an attic, an air conditioner, and central heating. We had none of these things before so it was all new to us. We have very good insulation, but on one very hot day we turned on the air condition only to find it didn’t seem to cool the house down at all. We called John Owens and technician Chris Ostrom-Juvencio came out to take a look and perform some minor tune-ups. We think he did a fabulous job. He took lots of photos and notes, and walked us through the systems and some of the issues. He presented us with lots of options, and didn’t push us in any particular direction - instead he described the pros and cons of each solution. For now, we’re sitting tight. But we know when the time comes to repair or replace any of our systems, we will be contacting John Owens - just as we have in the past.

    Our old furnace in West Marin gave out a couple weeks ago, leaving us waking to very chilly mornings and spending evenings in down jackets. A contractor friend recommended John Owens Services, who sent a technician out the next day. We decided to replace, and a second tech came the next day to discuss replacement options and take measurements. We did some research and selected a model, which JOS ordered that day and scheduled installation for two business days later. Two installers arrived when promised, finished removal and new installation in about 5 hours, cleaned up and were gone. I liked that every visit was preceded by a text estimating arrival time. We were referred to them from the Trane Website as our local dealer to help install a new Trane Air Conditioning Unit to our existing Trane Forced-Air Heater.Chris, HVAC designer came out the same day and assessed our 1974 home. He determined that we needed to update our vents to provide the best air flow. No other HVAC contractor mentioned this important factor. He also recommended the best size of unit for our needs.Alex, project manager, came out the next day to perform a thorough assessment of our existing system including specific measurements and drawings to assist the installation team. His thoroughness is impressive.Juan and Angel performed the installation. They are amazing. They are a true team. They enjoy their work (which is dirty and dangerous) and want to provide the same level of professionalism and craftsmanship as if it were their own home.They took it upon themselves to remodel our basement area in order to create the best, most serviceable area for our Heating and Air Conditioning systems. This required relocating the existing Heating Unit, installing new/larger electrical service, etc which required 100 runs under the house!The basement area is just about inaccessible. It is located at the opposite end of our home which is on a very steep hillside. Every trip with materials, etc. had to be hand carried about 100 from our driveway.In order to carry the huge Trane A/C unit they dug a 50 foot dirt trail along the steep hillside. With each of them on opposite sides of the heavy, awkward unit they, and two helpers, painstakingly maneuvered the unit down dangerous, uneven stairs and along the dirt trail and underneath a wooden deck to the correct position. It was like watching an act from Cirque de Soleil.According to Alex, this type of installation would normally take at least three days. Juan and Angel, working 10 to 12 hour days, completed it in two.We needed to install a new return which was over 85 feet long. We also needed a new floor register. Each situation required on the spot innovation and design decisions.Juan and Angel never complained nor appeared to require hand-holding from management. They adapted.At the end of the day, a contractor is as good as his sub-contractors. In this case, John Owens is very fortunate to have found such dedicated and skilled craftsman.We feel good about supporting a local San Rafael contractor! John Owens can provide warranty service, as well as, a wide variety of other contracting services and that makes us feel secure.Thank you Chris, Alex, Juan and Angel.     My ac unit stopped working and I suspected the compressor had finally given up-- the age of the system was 22 years. Eric was the technician that came out. He was extremely competent and thorough. He completed a systematic diagnostic assessment, explaining every step of the way. He confirmed that the compressor was struggling and drawing significant current on start-up, which was tripping the circuit breaker. However, the primary issue was a faulty capacitor. Eric replaced the capacitor, added a kickstart capacitor and had the unit operational within 30 minutes. I will now hopefully get another 2 years out of this system before requiring replacement.
