    We hired McIntosh Carpentry to build a fireplace mantle and adjacent barn door covering several storage drawers. For wood we used 160-year-old, reclaimed, pine from a local historical building. This was a unique project that changed the appearance of a major gathering area in our home and required both finished carpentry skills and a good creative ability. James brought all the necessary skills, organization and was a pleasure to deal with.* Was very specific on his proposed plan and delivered as promised.* Was punctual and delivered the project on time.* His communication was excellent.* He delivered within budget.* His pricing was also very reasonable.* James has a great sense of humor as well.We both strongly recommend McIntosh Carpentry and look forward to working with James on future projects.

    We met James two years ago when he helped us complete adding a new porch onto the side of our house. After watching his work, it was obvious that James was a skilled craftsman who knew exactly what to do and how to do it very very quickly. At the time we mentioned that we were thinking of a kitchen remodel. James said to give him a call if we decided to pull the trigger.Earlier this year we decided to go on the kitchen and gave James a call. From the beginning he was responsive, interested in the project, and gave us several good tips on what to look for and what to look out for. We hired him based on two factors- his previous impressive work and his quote which was exactly what we were looking for, detailed with the project broken down by task, time, and cost. His quote was very fair and fell within our budget, a major worry.Like his work on the porch, the quality and speed with which the work was completed was outstanding- you cannot slide a piece of paper between his joinery. All the well hidden problems inherent in our old house- asbestos, rotten cast iron waste lines, hidden electrical problems were all handled by his subs who were great as well. When all was completed and the dumpster was hauled away, we were left with a gorgeous kitchen built to the highest standards. We love it. Would I hire him again? In a heartbeat.Last and very importantly, James is a great guy. Think funny, understanding, interesting, and great with our kids who still miss him being around weekends.

    Absolutely fantastic contractor, truly one of the good guys. I worked with James to fix up two bathrooms and he was amazing. Punctual, efficient, with great quality work at a reasonable price. He put in thought in his work and found the best way to fix the problem. At the same time he worked hard to get things done, even coming by evenings/weekends. It was a pleasure working with him and when my next project comes up I will definitely work with him again!

    James has just completed rebuilding my back stairs, and, once again, he has done a fantastic job. He had replaced the floor of my porch two years ago, and did a great job on that as well. James is easy to work with and his prices are reasonable. He will work with you (he built temporary steps so my elderly dog could go outside during the building process) and he always has good recommendations. I will definitely be calling him for future jobs.

    James was excellent to work with and his work is beautiful. He gave an estimate and was upfront about expected costs. I showed him a few pictures of what I wanted and he explained the process. Using his expertise to fine tune my vision, he created a beautiful bench and shelves in our family room. They have transformed our space and I couldn’t have been happier with the work James did for us. He was honest, timely and hardworking! Would highly recommend.

    James does excellent work. We’ve hired him for large and small projects (from a new kitchen including removing walls and a stairway to decks, front entry, window seat, etc.) and the results are always fantastic. He is hard working, has incredible attention to detail and is a great communicator when managing projects. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

    James is excellent carpenter, a fine fellow, and is very easy to deal with. James did crown or other mouldings in a half dozen rooms for me, and made custom panelling for my dining room. All was exceedingly well done, and the process of getting there was easy for me, which I appreciated very much. Ill definitely hope that James will come back to do more for me in the future! He was referred to me by my neighbor and friend, who said James was fantastic, and reasonably priced. My neighbor, who is quite good at these things, was absolutely spot on.     I am so impressed by James on multiple levels. Responsive, professional, on time. Went above and beyond repairing the hole where our AC unit went to the outside of the house, did a great job. Didn’t skimp on anything and helped us out with some extras, very reasonably priced, straight shooter. Super nice and knowledgeable too. Cleaned everything up nicely. So relieved to have found a dependable carpenter!!! Will definitely be working with him again for other projects. Highly recommend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    James is everything we want when looking to hire for our home: Hes both talented and incredibly accountable. The carpentry talent is clear when he comes up with both great looking and great functioning solutions. And the accountability is beyond anyone weve hired before as James only expects perfection from himself, is certainly someone we trust in our home, and is very communicative. So far, James did the cabinets, shelving, and trim in our master closet and then framed and finished enclosures over A/C ducts and equipment in our attic. With both projects, we couldnt be happier and hell certainly be back for additional projects in the future.

    James has been a mainstay at our home for the past three to four years. Hes completed jobs of all scales and complexity including full interior trim and doors for an addition we did (two additions actually), custom architectural built ins, door work, exterior benches, kitchen cabinet replacement. No job was too large or too small. He approached each with the same level of detail and understanding. We couldnt be happier with the results and we refer James out to everyone we know. Looking forward to getting him back this summer for our outdoor shower.

    My Husband wanted Custom Designed Bookshelves for his home office and a family member referred James of McIntosh Carpentry. James came to our home, we discussed what we wanted, he showed us some impressive pictures of previous work, took all the necessary measurements needed and discussed a timeframe. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and he understood exactly what we had in mind. He did all of the designing and building at his shop and then brought the bookshelves to our home when they were completed to install. James was very diligent & meticulous in the installation, the bookshelves were designed to go from the floor to the ceiling. We are thrilled, the custom bookshelves that James designed and built are absolutely beautiful, we love how they compliment my Husbands office.     James does fantastic work. We provided him with a drawing for a large deck rebuild for our house in Swampscott. He did all the planning, material sourcing and construction. That deck is now the nicest part of our house... Throughout the process James had an obsession with the details - halting work and starting over on anything that wasnt perfect. My only complaint is that other people seem to have also noticed the quality of his work, making it hard for us to book him for more work.

    James was hired to repair/ replace door frames and porch railings in our 6 unit condo association.One unit owner emailed to say how thrilled she was that her screen door will now actually close! Ditto for my screen door.When replacing my porch railings James took such care putting the new railing back through my climbing clematis so the plant was not damaged at all by the repair! The new railings on all the porches that were repaired were solidly replaced.And all of this from the initial quote to two days of work was done with the necessary 2020 social distancing.This was a “patchwork” repair plan done well. When the time comes to do a more complete porch rebuild I will recommend our association call James for the job.

    I would highly recommend McIntosh Carpentry for your home projects. I decided to use McIntosh Carpentry not only because my neighbor/friend recommended it to me, but also because I found McIntosh Carpentry’s quote to be very competitive and fairly priced compared to several other quotes I’ve received for my bathroom renovation project. I found the owner, James, to be fast, reliable, knowledgeable, and extremely responsive. All his subcontractors are very skilled and reliable as well. I was very happy with everyone’s work and work ethic. James put together a great crew and I’m hoping they will be available for me when I’m ready to renovate my kitchen.

    Ive hired James to do two jobs. The first was adding a bathroom to the third floor of my 200 year old house. He did the job on time and on budget, and even helped negotiate with the local building inspector. The second job was to build bookcases to turn a bedroom into a library. Again a lovely result, on time and on budget. Now my problem is hes getting too much business and cant schedule my next job for 4-6 weeks out!
