    Cameron and Mike showed up on time for two different issues - annual furnace maintenance and a quote on doing zones. Mike promptly gave us a proposal for the zoning, with an estimate but based on time and materials because they weren’t sure how long it was going to take to do the wiring for the upstairs thermostat.It’s really hard here in Northern Michigan to get contractors at all, and there was a little delay, but the work was done timely. Junior and Sly who did the installation showed up on time, were very professional, did a really nice job, and cleaned up after themselves. Even though the wiring was routed through closets, Junior was careful about the aesthetics. Showed up at 9, out by about 3:30 pm and all done.The time and materials bill came in $27 higher than the estimate on a $4,000 job. I was fine with that.All in all, very satisfying customer experience. Would hire them again.

    The first time I ran across John W, he came through to inspect a furnace that MacGregors had installed. He took obvious pride in his work, answered questions and was very friendly. Recently he helped fix a major leak and then replaced my water heater. My place is super tricky, due to the previous owners DIY jobs but he kept a good attitude and had a sense of humor about the whole ordeal. John did fantastic work, I’ve got hot water and a more energy efficient tank than what was in there before.

    Nic, our repairman arrived on time, carefully figured out how to solve a water leak, fixed it and performed appropriate tests. He was courteous and like all of the MacGregor people pleasant to work with. MacGregor seems to be more expensive than others but I believe they do quality work and are dependable.

    John is the best! We have an old oil boiler that he has inspected, cleaned, and repaired for us. He is an expert on oil boilers and we feel much more at ease now that our heating is in his capable hands. He also helps us to make the best and most cost effective decisions. He lets us contact him directly, responds quickly when we have issues, and came in to work on our boiler on a weekend even though he wasn’t on call. We look forward to working with him for as long as we live here!

    MacGregor recently installed both a new air conditioner and new water heater in my home. They were very skilled, knowledgeable and personable. They answered my large volume of questions and provided clear and understandable answers. They showed up on-time and treated my home as if they were working on their own home-- i.e. they cleaned up, were careful moving things around, always wore a mask, put on shoe covers whenever they came into the house, etc. Their prices were slightly lower than their competitors, but their service quality was superb. I would definitely use them again in the future!!!

They got me the best price with rebates from manufacturer, gas company and electric company for a gas heating installation and did it in less than a week from start to finish.Technicians Joe W. and Josh T. did the pull out of the old system and install of the new system with care in a difficult installation in a tight confined area. Im very happy with the results of the installation and the new gas furnace and their attention to detail to make it look outstanding.     John was awesome! I recently purchased a house with a fuel oil furnace. Through research I learned it is important to have annual maintenance and cleaning completed. Easy enough... until I started calling around and found out that nobody was able or willing to work on them or take on a new customer. I was told by several contractors to just buy a new furnace.John came out, cleaned it, replaced one part, fired it up and then showed me how my entire heating / cooling system worked. He also looked at my tank to make sure there were no leaks or possible weak spots where it could leak.He told me that my furnace was fine, would easily get me thru the winter and there was no reason to rush into replacing it until I was ready.I really appreciated his honesty and when I do decide to replace it, MacGregor and hopefully John will get my business.

    It was the first time that John Whitehead had been to our home. He was here to do our annual heating/cooling check up. He was very thorough in everything he did plus he went above and beyond what would be expected of him on this inspection. An example of this was that he asked and then did a check of our dryer vent pipes which he clean it out. He went about his business doing a checking of both the heating and cooling system, which he found a couple of minor things which he. fixed immediately. John was very knowledgeable in all aspects of our systems. I would definitely have John back and work on anything. He is an outstanding service technician and a super person.

    James O gave prior notice of arrival and arrived on time, knew exactly what service was needed, met the social distancing guidelines with comfort and was polite and clean in manner and duty. James was able to service furnace, hot water (and replace dripping valve), toilet plumbing (x3) and left everything ship shape without any fuss or dirt, was polite, professional and very accommodating. How could one not like this guy? We will surely invite him next season for the annual maintenance. He was 10*/10. Thank you.The arrogance and over charging by Ballards in 2019 for sloppy work forced us to seek another for an heating annual service.     John Whitehead from MacGregor Plumbing is a true professional. Not only did he do a thorough job of seeking out and testing our entire boiler heating system and plumbing but he explained what he was doing and why throughout several steps of the process. He came out a few days earlier on an emergency basis to assess what was going on and said he would do everything he could to arrange for a timely return before we had to travel away from our house in Boyne City, MI.He seemed one or two steps ahead of me on what I needed to understand and some extra precautions I wanted. You could easily tell he had many years of experience in HVAC, plumbing and these specialty boiler heating systems.John was courteous, knowledgable and clearly took some extra time ensuring we were comfortable in understanding how to operate our complex system. He took care to check beyond the normal checks and spotted a couple of problem areas that needed correction. One of those was a leak in some pvc pipe that was deep in our crawl space.I would highly recommend MacGregor Plumbing due to John W. and he represented the company well. He even offered to call him anytime with questions or clarification.We need more people around like John W. who actually cares about what he is doing, makes sure to do it right and demonstrates pride in what he does.     Josh and his partner made two service calls to our house during the last two weeks, first to install a gas line for our fireplace and second to install a gas line for a new generator. In both cases the work could not have been preformed better and they were great to work with. MacGregor did the original plumbing and heating installation when we built our house 20 years ago and has done all the plumbing and heating work since installation. Josh and his partner are typical of the personable, efficient individuals who we have worked with for the last 20+ years. Keep up the good work.Chris Steffen

    David B. Could do a training program on handling service visits. Service visits can be intrusive but each time David B. has been here he has been personable, understanding about our big dogs initial crankiness, and then gets right to work. Our aging furnace needed a new water pump. He explained what it’s problems were in a way that I could ask questions and decide myself. He had a pump in the truck and could do it right then so we did not need another appointment. Did it immediately and explained why it took a few extra minutes. Really appreciate the very helpful and pleasant experience.

    I discovered a leak under my kitchen sink and was unable to get the seal to adhere on my own. I called at 8:30 am on a Monday morning and by noon Nic had been here and fixed the issue. He explained everything he was doing. He also noticed hard water on the faucet and recommended a water softener system which I have been needing to get installed. He was very knowledgeable, personable, and friendly. I would recommend Macgregor Plumbing and Heating to anyone.

    We experienced a water line break in three ares of our cottage due to a furnace outage,the worst spilling water onto the kitchen floor. Tim Rhine was on the spot and handled the clean up and repairs along with John with great efficiency. He instilled in us a sense of confidence that all was being handled well,especially since we were 300+ miles away. He continually kept us informed as to what was happening and the progress made. John especially went above and beyond the call when he stopped in after a power outage to reassure my daughter that all was well. Their actions during the problem instilled a great deal of confidence for us in working with MacGregor and their employees.

He checked some other plumbing items in basement & recommended that the sump pump valve be replaced. He also checked toilets and faucets on the 1st floor. Again John was friendly and professional.3rd visit (May 2021) John fixed both the hot water heater and the kitchen faucet. As usual, he was on time, professional and efficient. The office staff was also very helpful with setting up the appointment and communicating with me.4th visit (June 2021) John did an annual furnace check and changed the filter. He also inspected all of the plumbing and made a suggestion for replacing an old vent tie-in pipe. John was very professional and thorough, and was a good communicator.5th visit (July 2021) John replaced an old venting pipe that was not properly pitched (see 4th visit info). Our old farmhouse often needs improvements and John always recommends fixes that are important for maintaining the house. I like that he is very thorough and checks everything in the house when he comes out to do the annual furnace check. I wish that I had such a good plumber for my primary home in the Lansing area. MacGregors also gave me an estimate before the job, and stayed right within the estimate, which I appreciate.

David also verified the propane burners were igniting immediately upon the call for heat in propane heat mode, and reminded me that the furnace was 2-stage, which could explain some of the performance questions I had about fan operation. He arrived around 10 p.m. and went right to work to find out the source of our water issue. John Gay was awesome. He left nothing uncovered. He found that the builder of our home had connected copper piping with a cap that was not copper. It took 42 years to make a hole in the pipe!     We recently did a kitchen remodel at our cottage in Harbor Springs, involving replacing all the appliances (including replacing an old electric stove with a new gas model) and a new quartz countertop and under the counter sink. We live downstate and it was important that we be able to coordinate the needed work so that it could be done when we were there. Also needed to be coordinated with the Home Depot appliance delivery and countertop people. Everyone at MacGregors, including Harry, Joe H, Joe W, Stephen D, and other crew members and office staff, was wonderful. They were all so courteous and helpful, and took care of everything we needed while we were there, even making a couple of extra trips to make sure all was well before we headed back downstate. Cant praise them enough! MacGregors has done many jobs at the cottage over the last 15 years or so, and I have never been disappointed! Great people who know what they are doing!

Doctoring the fuse holders appears to have the problem resolved.There appears to be an interferance between the fuse holders and the front cover door for the boiler. this may be the issue - this is a design issue with the Bosch boiler. John put thing together and it now works.
