    It was a pleasure working with Shane and his crew on our backyard project and we couldn’t be happier with the results! His knowledge is extensive and the thoughtfulness he applies to the design process is impressive. He considers how the client will use the space, and then factors in important details like the amount of sun/shade, drainage, seasonal changes and when to use evergreens, maturity and aging process, etc. He knows the region and selects native plants that will thrive. Shane gave us different price point options and helped us prioritize the various components of the project and stay in budget. We are thoroughly enjoying our new patio, garden area, hot tub, and beautiful landscaping that now surrounds the back of the house. Highly recommend Groundswell Landscape!

    Worked with Shane and his crew over the summer and could not have been happier with the result. We knew we wanted a patio and to give our front yard some curb appeal, but had no idea how to go about it. Shane talked with us through many ideas and for hardscape and plantings helping to guide us to a design that we were happy and was in our budget.Once the project began, Shanes crew came to the site every day. They were hardworking and put up with our many questions. Subcontractors (irrigation, electrician) were always on time and easy to work with.When we ran into a couple unexpected design issues, we discussed them and came to agreement on how best to resolve them. There were no budget changes without our approval beforehand.Overall, it was a great experience and have been able to enjoy our patio this fall, as much as the weather allows.

    Groundswell designed and built our front steps, front walkway and front plantings (spring 2020). The design is unique and tasteful and in keeping with the style of the house. The owner, Shane, knows his plants well and selected a beautiful assortment of plantings that are growing very nicely; many of them native, which we had asked for. The crew was hardworking and showed up everyday and on time. Shane was very responsive and knowledgeable. We are very happy with the outcome and will likely hire them to do future jobs.

    Shane was a pleasure to work with; I gave him some very high level ideas and he brought my vision to life. He was very hands on with the crew on the days of install and checked in frequently with me on the progress (despite being a pretty small project!). Ive worked with several companies in the area, and Shane and Groundswell were by far the best Ive worked with - personal, professional and responsive. Shane has continued to check in with me after the work is completed, and my backyard feels like an oasis. Emphatically recommend!

    Shane at Groundswell was terrific to work with for designing and building our backyard landscape including stone patio, fire pit, deck, and vegetation. He patiently worked with us on the design to make sure everything fit our needs, budget, and included design elements that matched our style. His team of installers were professional and they all paid very close attention to detail that other contractors have missed.     Shane at Groundswell Landscape Design definitely stood out compared to the other landscape companies we talked to about our backyard pool/patio project. He was professional, thorough and collaborative in his approach throughout the process, provided drawings and an in person review of his plan/drawings which we really appreciated. His crew during construction was excellent and hard working. Shane was on site frequently and always in contact with us to provide updates. He listened to our ideas and brainstormed with us for future phases of our project, and will be starting phase two in the spring. I cannot recommend him highly enough!!

    Shane was responsive in the design, execution, and follow up on our retaining wall project. He provided design suggestions and a range of options, all clearly presented. Despite needing to change materials due to supply shortages, the project went ahead and was completed as promised, leaving us with a product that exceeded our expectations.     If you are considering a landscape designer / installer Shane is the man.He redesigned our landscaping at One Elm in Andover to include a patio.The owners of the property could not be more happy with the work and Shane sticking to a tight budget was key to having this work done.

    We reached out to Shane and Groundswell Landscape this past fall/winter because we knew our small, L-shaped yard could be much more enjoyable. We had a rough idea of what we wanted: an additional patio and fire pit, plantings that could thrive in the shade of a large maple tree in our backyard, and a retaining wall along the edge of our yard. We spoke with several companies but all were primarily interested in the hardscaping and only briefly touched on the plantings or overall design. Shane was completely different. He saw the yard, heard our vision, and instantly started sharing ideas of how we could bring it to life. He sketched it out and we spent several weeks going back and forth to get it just right, including making amendments that would help us manage the overall cost. He shared details on which plants he would use, the colors when they bloom, and how theyd all come together. He scheduled us in for May and as the time approached he reached back out to coordinate everything. The on-site team was professional, courteous, and always left a clean job site at the end of each day. The work speaks for itself, from the custom retaining wall, to the fire pit and patio, to the stepping stone walkway through beautiful plantings, to the sod that has taken root. He even laid the drip line irrigation for us after we decided we didnt want a sprinkler system installed, and gave clear directions for how to water the plants and sod (over the first few weeks, months and beyond). Shane is super responsive to email/text, and was flexible as we changed some of our decisions mid-way through the planning process (including in adding sod at the last minute). We would 100% recommend Groundswell Landscape and if we ever need landscaping done in the future, we will be reaching out to Shane!

    Anyone can design landscaping and yards. Shane knows how to think through every variable and how to ensure you only do the right version of what you should do when designing landscaping and yards. He is the best landscape architect in north Boston. This comes from me and my neighbors. Whether big or small, he is the best at talking through, designing, and executing (at a meticulous level). This kind of person is so hard to find, but Shane is a high performer in everything he does and will make you feel comfortable throughout the entire process and have you hearing yourself saying “it’s Shane, I trust him 100%” and not regret it.

    We used Shane to redo our large front yard 5 years ago (13 trees and 200+plants). It transformed a very boring yard into something very nice. Five years in, the selection of plants is now paying massive dividends - giving us beautiful color all year.This spring, we had Groundswell do a large project on the rear of our property (large bluestone patio, cobblestone walkways, hot tub pad, 200+ plants and refining a circular drive). The end product is stunning and gives my wife and I, a satisfaction level that exceeded our expectations.I would give Shane and Groundswell a 10 out of 10. Very professional, very dependable, and very easy to work with. We stuck largely to an original plan that Shane designed. As we made changes (which we always do), everything was transparent with no surprises. We dont have much left with our property but will involve them in the future where we canJohn & Heidi.

    Shane and his crew did a fabulous job on a multi-faceted garage, driveway, and yard project. Shane was easy to work with, thorough, and detail-oriented. Shane designed a beautiful cobbled driveway extension and widening, and installed lighting throughout the front yard. He also helped us re-do our garage which had structural damage, and managed all of the different crews to do the work. Shane was very knowledgeable and professional about working within constraints of town permitting, and was great about communicating. Highly recommend Groundswell Landscape Design.

    Weve worked with Shane and Groundswell a few times over the past 5 years and have been very impressed. He transformed our rocky, exposed, and unusually shaped backyard into a private oasis with a comfortable patio and beautiful plantings. Shane has an encyclopedic knowledge of plants and was able to select the best specimens for our space.     When you wait to start a project as long as we did, its important to find someone who can pick the picture from your imagination. Shane was one of the many we met and Shane was the only one who was able to see into my imagination. Shane was thoughtful, patient, knowledgeable and such a nice guy!! He walked the property and suggested how we could save some of our existing shrubs and his choices of which shrubs to save and where to put them proved to be perfect. He not only placed the plantings for his guys (who were fantastic!), but returned later and actually asked that they dig up one of the shrubs already planted because he didnt like the angle. If you need landscaping - please....I beg you....look no further! I cant say enough about Shane Mahoney and Groundswell Landscape.

    Shane and the Groundswell team far exceeded my expectations. We had a pool that was in dire need of attention and a privacy screen added. Shane was very thorough, explained the planting choices and hardscape, making everything very easy and worry free. Workers were on time and very professional. Priced other companies, but Groundswell ultimately won my business due to their attention to details while keeping to my budget. Will use them in the future and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a team to make their landscaping dreams come true. Our pool area went from zero to hero in just a couple week . Thanks Shane and the Groundswell team.
