My wife and I used Nate for a fireplace project. We live in an old Denver 1890 home, which has a lot of “character”. Character means that none of the walls are truly at a 90-degree angle, every floor has a slope, and ceilings that appear level are anything but. Nates challenge was two-fold; building us a nice, time-era wood mantle for our fireplace that exposed the brick chimney, and to build bookshelves and cabinets between the fireplace and wall. Buying anything prefabricated wasn’t an option due to the uneven slope. To further complicate it, the shelves had to fit against 130-year old brick, which was of varying thickness and alignment. While the project took longer than expected due to supply-chain issues, once Nate began he devoted much time and effort to measurements so that the wood was cut perfectly to fit against brick or sloped corners. His work is absolutely fascinating- a trick to the eye. He built the bookshelves in a way that completely obscures the fact that ceiling and floor are not quite level. Perhaps if you live in an older home and uneven floors annoy you, don’t seek a structural engineer to rework the foundation, just hire Nate to build you a bookcase and allow his carpentry skills to make what appears uneven to be perfectly level! Our living room used to be glum with a boring fireplace and no storage. Nate resurrected our living room, which is now by far our favorite room of the house, especially as we have family visit or watch movies by the fireplace. Carpentry is a true skill that requires a meticulous approach- if you’ve got a project that requires attention to detail, Nate Cougill is your guy! -

Working with Nate was a great experience. Much of the original trim from our 1892 Denver home was removed over several remodels. Nate matched the profile and stain of the original baseboard, cap, and shoe perfectly. The job took the work of a couple of local experts, so he helped us coordinate. Communication was a breeze, and the process was seamless. If your old home needs some love and you have the opportunity to work with Nate, I highly recommended it. But I should let the results speak for themselves. The photo shows one baseboard installed in 1892, the other last week. Can you tell which is which? Check out Cougilll Trim & Cabinets for the answer. -

Nate completed two projects in our house - a basement upgrade and a wainscoting installation. We appreciated his creativity, thoughtfulness and attention to detail. He is a true craftsman and a pleasure to work with. -

Nate was professional, fast, and communicated really clearly throughout the process. He made the trip to my house, took a few photos of the empty space I wanted the work done, and quickly provided me with a 3-D image of the proposed piece (a custom-built cabinet that could be both wheeled into different places around my kitchen but also firmly and safely be secured to a wall or another counters edge when not in use). He was able to come up with really ingenious additions, like collapsible extensions and a hidden toe-kick that enabled the cabinet to move as well as be locked into place while matching perfectly with my existing cabinets. Nate is a creative genius and I would use him for any construction project! -

Incredible craftsmanship and precision. Truly beautiful piece that fits exactly in the oddly-shaped spot we needed it to fit in. Nate is a joy to work with! -

I had a shelf designed and built by Nate. He gave me a good price but my favorite part about working with him was the process. He showed my images and 3d renderings of the project before I spent a dime! He also sent me Google calendar invites for the whole process and showed up on time and ready to work. He left my house clean and tidy after each day. The built-in unit is beautiful and matched the esthetic of my 1920s home. Thanks! -
