We had a good experience with Alair who we used to design and build an addition to our home. Alair was very responsive throughout the process and honest about a timeline. The subcontractors they work with were respectful of our space and time. A special shout-out should be given to Vincent, our project manager for the build phase. Vincent was present, patient, thoughtful, and thorough. He offered a lot of support and explanations as well as worked through issues with us. Our space turned out even better than we imagined and we are grateful that Alair helped turn our vision into a reality.

My renovation experience was incredible!! We have lived in our home for 40 years, and the much needed renovation is beautiful. Our project managers were fantastic! They were very professional and paid close attention to every detail. I highly recommend using them if you have a craftsman home!

We used Alair Decatur for our home renovation in 2024. We did 2 full bathroom guts, a new modern staircase, various tiling and flooring in our living room and kitchen, new fixtures, and all doors and hardware. Our vision and ideas were on the modern side and I think pushed the limits as far as style. We could not have had a better experience with Alair Decatur truly from start to finish. They were open to our ideas, transparent about cost and timeline from the first meeting. Each team member has their forte and performed beyond our expectations. From the first walkthrough when Heather came to our house to gain a sense of the scope to the closing punch list, we felt really taken care of. The attention to detail in budgeting, an extensive excel spreadsheet of all costs, and timeline was about as thorough as it could have ever been. As with any construction process, there are always hiccups, set backs, and unforeseen costs that can come about. We truly felt these things were addressed head on and in a professional manner- compromises were made where it made sense and it felt like a team effort. Vincent was our PM the whole time and he never missed a detail and when he did (which was crazy rare), he was at the house ASAP with the various trades addressing the detail that needed adjusting. He never missed a phone call and was prompt in every way. The level of professionalism and high end trades they use is evident in our end product. Our bathrooms had some pretty complicated tiling and it came out perfectly. When I hear of nightmare contractors as we all have, Im thankful that we never had an inkling of that with Alair. I would (and will for our second phase of renovation) be using them for all future projects. Thanks for an amazing end product I truly enjoy each day.

I can’t speak more highly about Alair and their entire team - from the very first call with Desja to finishing touches with Vincent. We even shopped around with other companies and Alair blew us away from the beginning. Each person we spoke to and met with communicated with us with a level of professionalism and respect that honestly surprised and reassured us every step of the way. I know you shouldn’t feel “surprise” and/or “reassurance” normally (or should you? Not sure, I’ve never done this before), but this was a huge deal for our family - a complete renovation - and a once in a lifetime undertaking. We didn’t know what to expect at any point! Amanda kindly had the patience of a saint with my millions of questions and doubts, Michael Nualla (designer) produced multiple designs until we were 100% happy, Laura and Sarah with Laura Brown Design created stunning designs, Vincent and Anthony’s construction team were incredibly patient, kind, and listened to every question we had. Trust me, we threw out some wild ideas (including a porthole for a Master and Commander-themed bathroom?! And yes they came through! And the carpenter even created a sweet whale towel hook for the space!). All the trades were so professional as well. Anytime we interacted with the floor team, electricity, plumbers, painting team, tile folks, the wallpaper guy - more I know I’m forgetting - they were so kind. Heather was there every step of the way, just a call away to clarify any point of the process. What a dream team. You’d think I would be getting paid for this review - lol - nope. (But hey, I wouldn’t say no?! Jk?) I just strongly believe in this team and will be forever grateful for the beautiful home they created for our family.

Throughout 10 years of collaboration, Heather and the whole Alair team have always been a pleasure to work alongside. As a Landscape Architecture company, we work with a multitude of contractors and construction companies but Alair homes has distinguished themselves through their outstanding design work, clear communication and attention to detail. Their reliability stems from their holistic approach to the design build process. They are the most thorough company we have worked with, which always makes our job easier.Alair Homes consistently sets the standard for Design Build work!

We hired Alair Homes Decatur for our downstairs renovation project. From our first interaction, we were impressed. They are experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to City of Atlanta permitting. We wanted to hire a design build company for many reasons, and they did a wonderful job. The designer that worked on out project listened to exactly what we wanted and she designed a space that we absolutely love. We had to move out of our home during the renovation and had signed a 6 month lease. Alair finished the project on time, and on budget! They are not cheap, but you really get what you pay for. We would definitely recommend them and hire them for another project!

We could not be happier with our kitchen renovation and our entire experience using Alair Homes! They were prompt, responsive, professional and their craftsmanship is top notch. Our home in Ansley Park is over 100 years old and we were so impressed by the care they showed to both our home and our family during the months long project. Our kitchen is just incredible! Everything we hoped for and more! We have recommended Ken, Heather, Amanda and the entire team at Alair to anyone who asks. We will absolutely work with Alair again and are grateful to have found them.

Though we ultimately decided not to pull the trigger on constructing an addition to our home, the team at Alair was very professional, responsive, and honest throughout the process. We worked with them to talk about options for our addition and they were able to deliver several architectural renderings to help us visualize what our addition could look like. They provided us with a detailed breakdown of the expected costs and timeline-- all information that was helpful for us to make our final decision. Well definitely keep them in mind if we revisit an addition in the future.

Alair Homes, Decatur, GA, recently completed a kitchen renovation for us. We have renovated a number of homes over the years using various contractors and Alair was by far the most professional and detailed. They were on time and on budget, which is rare for contracting companies. They have a design team, who helped us design the kitchen layout, island, lighting, counter tops, back splash, etc... Alair detailed every aspect of the work w/ pricing and dates. They stayed on budget and time throughout the entire renovation. We knew exactly what was going to happen and when, as well as the costs. There were no surprises. Alair acts as the general contractor and all the trades that worked on our home were professional and delivered very high quality work. All of the folks at Alair and their trades were a pleasure to work and made sure we were satisfied w/ every aspect of the work along the way. I highly recommend Alair for any home renovation you are considering.

We hired Alair to finish our basement. We were fortunate enough to have purchased a home in historic Inman Park that was built in 2011 but still had the historic feel of a home a hundred years older. Our biggest priority was to have a basement that looked like it was always there, as if the original builders had designed it. Considering we know next to nothing about designing and building a house, we also wanted to have an experience that was as stress-free as possible. And boy did Alair deliver! We met with multiple design/build companies and instantly felt comfortable with Peter from Alair. After signing on, we met with our designer, Whitney, and our project manager, Chela. The entire process was as professional, smooth, and transparent as advertised. We were in constant communication with our team from the very beginning. We had some interesting challenges with our space due to existing duct work that they worked through flawlessly. We were kept informed about any potential issues well before they became a problem. Our project was continually tweaked to maintain our budget, and the team gave honest suggestions to focus on our priorities. The Alair portal was an incredible resource that kept us completely informed throughout. I also felt 100% comfortable with all of the subcontractors and workers who worked on our house, which was important to me while I was at work with my wife and two children at home. The only issues we had were minor. The initial scope of the project was larger but needed to be scaled back as material and labor costs increased throughout 2018-2019. Again, the team was very straightforward about these issues, and we were able to make changes to fit our needs. The project took a few weeks longer than initially stated, but we had anticipated that based on the scope of the build. The final product was even better than we could have imagined. The quality and craftsmanship is fantastic (I wish we could add more than four photos!), and our new space has quickly become our favorite place in the house to spend family time together. We are more than happy to act as a reference to anyone who is considering using Alair for their project. Thank you to Peter, Chela, Whitney, and the whole Alair team!

We love working with Alair!! The service they provide is unparalleled. The communication and attention to detail is especially appreciated. As interior designers, we love planning ahead. Planning assures that every detail can be executed beautifully AND functionally. Part of Alairs process is to price and plan prior to construction. This planning phase affords us the time to think outside the box so that we have time to solve problems with successful solutions. It is a truly organized, collaborative experience for clients, designers, and the builder. It avoids so many typical challenges of working with builders - like day of texts for paint colors.

I have been working with Alair Homes Decatur for over 2 years now. Their entire team, from the owners to their subs, are extremely professional and masters of their craft. We have done projects from very small to complete full-gut renovations, and they give top notch service and beautiful results. The icing on the cake for them, are their amazing designers. They are truly what set Alair Homes Decatur apart from the rest. They are organized, they are thorough, and they are ALL delightful to work with.

Almost done with our Alair renovation. This has been a big project. From the very beginning the communication, budgeting, tracking and work have been amazing. I am an engineer by training and I have very high expectations. Their system to track budget and material choices is excellent. The owner of the company is a cell phone call away and is on the job site constantly. Their contractors go above and beyond to clean up at the end of every day - which we appreciate as we are living in the home during the renovation. We have added and changed things along the way and they have been very accommodating. Cant say enough good things about this company. Have recommended them to several neighbors already.

  • Review 14 (2023-02-08 - Rating: 5)

Alair was excellent and super professional. We loved working with them. They did structural work to our house and when various unexpected things popped we had enough in the contingency that they planned for so that it was merely a bump in the road. Would absolutely work with them again. Thanks Heather and the team!

Among other things, we hired Alair in Decatur GA to finish our basement which involved fixing a leaky corner and engineering a beam solution to fix a bouncy floor above without having to put posts in the middle of the room. They put a designer and two engineering partners to solve every single problem we faced prior to breaking ground on the project. They assigned a project manager to handle everything during construction. The engineered solutions they incorporated into the project were very impressive and will likely outlast the house.Alair is not likely to be your least expensive option but they provide value in the expertise they bring to the table and by removing the burden of having to micromanage the details of the project. It was truly white glove service. It is also worth noting that because of the thorough planning in advance we had only one small change order and they came in slightly under budget for the project in total. I highly recommend them for complex projects that need engineered solutions and for people that dont have time to manage a remodel project.

We just finished a kitchen / family room renovation using Renewal Design-build and are so happy we chose them ! From the beginning of the design process to end of our project everyone worked to make sure we would be happy with the final results. Anytime we had a question or concern someone got right back in touch with us .When the manufacturer delivered defective tile and countertops Renewal quickly got replacements and the project was still finished on time. My husband and I still cant believe the beautiful transformation in our kitchen and family room. Jaime , our designer, thought of so many little details to make the space much more functional and look like the kitchen of our dreams. We have done many renovations before but this is the first time we actually have missed getting to see our contractor, their employees and sub-contractors ! Everyone we worked with was so great. Thanks Peter, Jaime, Vincent, Anthony, and all the others for making this such a great experience.

We love our renovated home! In 6 months they transformed our small 2 bed 1 bath to an airy open 4 bed/3 bath home. Great quality materials and we have been pleased with the contractors they used for finishing touches. I never want to leave the master bedroom/bathroom; they incorporated all the must haves on my list without going over budget or working to see what we could trade out to make it fit in the budget. They made a house a forever home and I am excited to make memories here.

  • Review 18 (2017-03-16 - Rating: 5)

My husband and I interviewed Renewal Design and Build for an addition/renovation in November 2015. Based on their expertise, portfolio of projects similar to our own, their processes for designing and then building, and their guarantees on price and completion date, we decided to contract with them for our project. We did a first and second floor addition where we renovated our kitchen and added a bathroom, bedroom, laundry room, and family room. The process began with a thorough inspection of our home by all of the different trades who would be involved in our project (plumbing, electrical, etc.). For us, they discovered they would need to pour an extra footer in our basement. By doing this, they were able to give us a price quote that was almost exactly what ended up being in our contract, and there were zero financial surprises during our project. When we initially met with them, the price they quoted us seemed high; however, we had done other smaller construction projects within our home in the past by using an architect and a general contractor, and in two of these projects, we ended up paying double what we had agreed upon with the contractor because of surprises and other issues that came up during the project. We had none of these issues with Renewal, and in the end, I believe the initial price (although it seemed high in the beginning) was fair and possibly less in the long run, than we might have paid going the traditional route.Once we were under contract, we worked with their design team: an architect and an interior designer. They both came to our home where we walked through together to go over what worked for us and what didn’t work for us in our home, the way it was. They were both attentive to our needs and wants and the architect came up with several drafts for us to choose from. From there, we picked the draft we liked best and refined it several times until the plans were exactly what we wanted. Then we worked with our designer to select the finishes like cabinets, vanities, tubs, tiles, flooring, etc. All of the planning was done prior to the beginning of construction. This process was stress-free and fun. Both the architect and designer did a great job of listening to us and making as many changes as we needed to feel good about our decisions.Just prior to the start of construction, we met our project manager. He was amazing during the entire construction phase. He oversaw everything that was happening at our house: coordinating work and overseeing the subcontractors. In our past projects in which we used a general contractor, my husband and I felt one of us had to be present all the time when work was being done in order to make sure things were being done correctly (there were constant issues), to the point where it felt like a full-time job to supervise the project. The project we did with Renewal was almost completely worry-free. Our project manager’s job was to oversee the project to prevent issues, and that’s exactly what he did. He was attentive, prompt, considerate, professional, and skilled, and we were able to trust him to make sure things were done correctly and done well. This was important to us because we moved out of our home during the construction phase, so we weren’t always able to come by to see the progress. The construction phase for our project lasted about 7 months, with a project completion date that we had agreed upon when we signed the contract. Renewal finished our project 2 days head of that schedule. This was critical for us because we were renting an apartment and were able to move out on time without having to extend our lease. They also did a great job of completing the punch-list in a timely fashion at the end of the project. In the end, we would highly recommend Renewal. We couldn’t be happier with the work they did (our home is beautiful!) and the way we were treated during this project.

In May of 2016 we purchased an almost 90-year-old home in historic Druid Hills. The home was a two-story Four Square with a lot of character and appeal, but needed updates and repairs. We wanted to modify and update our home while maintaining the look and feel of a home, built in the 1920’s.Renewal Design-Build did a great job with providing us with a beautiful and more livable space, as well as maintaining the overall style of our 90-year-old home. They are the best design-build group we have ever worked with. They excel on timely job completion and staying within budget, with high quality workmanship, focus on detail, great communication with clients, an excellent design team, and a high degree of understanding what their clients want. The planning phase was quite enjoyable. Great preconstruction meetings where we were thoroughly interviewed about our expectations and likes/dislikes. All of this allowed the project to get off to a smooth start. When we met with David Michelson, the President of RDB who also acted as our project manager, he was ready to go. David kept the project on track and was very professional in the way he kept his team moving. We also had a number of change orders and add-ons during the course of the project. These did not faze him or the RD-B team one bit. They handled them beautifully and still were able to meet the completion date. The most impressive part of their work was how they kept the integrity of the 1920’s style. They did an amazing job of matching the old with the new, to the point when people come by to visit they cannot tell where the original ends and the new begins. We would highly recommend RDB to anyone who has a remodeling need. You will not be disappointed.

Back in 2019, Alair Homes Decatur did a complete renovation of the main floor of our three story house which included the kitchen, laundry room, the great room, the sitting room, the dining room, the foyer, and the powder room. The Alair team was fantastic to work from start to finish and in all respects. The design that their design team came up with was superb and quite stunning. It matched our personalities and lifestyle to a T. We absolutely love it. As far as budget, Alair accurately projected a full cost budget at the very beginning of the process and stuck with it throughout the project. There were no surprises or unexpected costs. As far as the 5 month construction process, it went quite smoothly with very few speed bumps even though the renovation was so extensive that it required the removal of four major structural walls and the installation of 4 structural beams along with supporting columns. The Alair team was incredibly responsive and proactive throughout the process. We were so pleased with the process and the result that we recently embarked on a second large scale renovation project with them that includes our bathrooms and home office. I would highly recommend Alair Homes Decatur to anyone considering a major renovation of your home.

We did an extensive addition and remodel with Alair. They were wonderful to work with. They listened to our input, gave us a reasonable time estimate and sound advice, and kept us updated along the way. We added to the project, and they were able to incorporate the extra work with hardly any delay. I love the end result.

  • Review 23 (2023-02-08 - Rating: 5)

Weve worked with Alair on two projects on our 80-year-old Morningside home. The first was a significant modification that turned a cramped finished attic hallway space into an open, usable family room. The second project was a significant rebuild/repair just a few weeks later when a windstorm knocked a massive tree onto another part of the house. In both projects, we were thrilled with the responsiveness and attention that our project managers and the supporting crew (the Alair staff and the trades that Alair works with) gave to our project. One of our biggest challenges on home renovation projects has been coordinating with trades. Alair Homes Decatur has an excellent working relationship with highly competent and reliable trade partners. We specifically had extensive framing, masonry, and electrical needs in our projects, sometimes requiring frequent tweaks in scope to keep the project going in light of site conditions and discoveries. These trades and their crews are top-notch. They have high standards, are very reliable, and work well with each other, the Alair staff, and us as homeowners to find ways to solve the inevitable problems that arise in renovation and rebuilding projects on older homes.

Your home is your greatest investmentYou buy the organic fruit to take care of you body, you buy the safest car to take care of your family... we chose Renewal with the same thinking in our home remodel. Renewal is the Volvo of the Home Remodeling Market. Their sleek home designs are followed up by their safe investment in their workmanship. When it comes to home grown, they design your concepts to fruition and help you embrace the elements on what your home can be. Jon, Mark, Brent, Heather, Courtney, and Kara want your Remodel to be a success because it is their livelihood. Did we have some bumps, sure, we are asking humans to interrupt a building built in the 50s, in 2 Snow storms, and one Monsoon. They did this, stayed not only on time, and on budget. I recommend Renewal to my neighbors. Our home is the grey one with the red door on their website.

I recently wrapped a series of meetings with Peter Michelson with Alair Homes Decatur, and I want to recommend him and this company to anyone considering a home renovation in our area. He was great - he came out to my house and really took his time assessing it, he interviewed me throughly to get a good handle on what I was looking for in terms of my living space, he had lots of creative ideas as to how we could approach the renovation, and he took a lot of time to explain the process from the design through the build. He was realistic and up front with me about the cost. He did not pressure me or put the hard sell on me. (And, for the record, I think the costs were competitive - very much in line with what it takes to do a renovation here). In the end, I decided not to move forward for a variety of reasons related to costs, and he was great about that. I toured around town and saw a number of Alair projects - all of them outstanding. In many ways Im sorry not to be doing this renovation - I think the Alair team would do something truly special with this property.

I have been working with Alair Homes Decatur for several months for a major renovation on my home. Their team helped us to understand the details for designing a project that fit the needs of our family and best utilized the space of our existing house. They worked with us and have had multiple conversations along the way to guide us through the process of designing, permitting, and now constructing a beautiful space. Their work has been meticulous: Our house had no roof for several weeks during one of the rainiest seasons in Georgia. They had tarps and plans in place and made sure that the already-built space in our home was fully protected. In terms of worksmanship and responsiveness, the team working with us has been outstanding. Our project manager, Laura, is available to answer questions and help us understand all of the steps to making this newly built space into the reality we want it to be. From the owners to the framers to the on-site managers, this is a company that makes sure that the homes they build are the homes their customers want them to become.

We used Alair a few years ago for our 100+ year old craftsmen bungalow in Inman Park. Other designed/build firms did not believe our vision was feasible, let alone not wanting to take on our neighborhoods historic preservation strict guidelines. Alair stepped up to the plate and delivered. Within keeping to the coveted historic guidelines, Alair built a second addition to our home, and also completely gut-renovated our kitchen to design/build a modern kitchen gem. We are so thankful to have used Alair...We always recommend them.
