I’m the Owner/Operator of TLC Interior Finishes, a design, Interior Finishes, complete remodeling and renovation company… I was looking for a licensed, insured electrician on a residential renovation project, I contacted VerPlank as they were close to our office on West River… I am very happy that I contacted them, they came out to look at the project, and worked it in for our schedule. Dave and Bill Did a fantastic job of wiring up our New shop. All machines fired right up and are working as if we never disconnected and moved them. What began as a DIY project of replacing old receptacles in my sister-in-laws house while she was on vacation; and installing a GFCI receptacle in the kitchen, quickly became a I need a professional project. After inserting a circuit tester into several receptacles without incident, I stuck it into the receptacle next to the stove, and -- POP! Blew the breaker. This is two days before Christmas, and in the afternoon and my sister-in-law will be home on Friday. A quick internet search of electricians near me came up with a list. The first one I called stated they only do commercial work--no residential. The next one I called was a voicemail stating they were closed for the holidays and would return the next week. Getting a little frantic, I called the next one on the list--VerPlank. A sweet young lady asked me what she could do to help, and I explained my situation. She said, give me a few minutes and Ill call you back, requesting my contact information. About 15 minutes later, my phone rang, and the young lady stated she had located one of their electricians who would be finishing up a job shortly and would call me when he was enroute to my location. A short while later, I received a call from the electrician stating he was enroute and would be arriving shortly. Not getting into the technical details--he identified the issue (old school wiring) and proceeded to correct the situation and install the receptacles, including the GFCI. After thinking the job was complete and resetting the breaker--all seemed good to go. The electrician was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and I appreciated his prompt, efficient work. With that, he departed. Fast forward to the day after Christmas when my wife informed me that she had been at her sisters house and noticed the refrigerator was not running. Finding a receptacle close enough that was working, I plugged in the refrigerator to save what food was inside. I had just received my invoice for the work done on Monday. My immediate thought--call VerPlank. Since it was after normal working hours when I was notified, I figured I would send an email to give them a heads up that there was an issue with the work previously done and I needed further assistance. The next morning, I received a call from the young lady at VerPlank (I should really write these names down!) and she asked when I would be available to see what the issue with the kitchen was. I said anytime, and she said, okay, Ill call you back. About 15 minutes later--she called and said, Will this afternoon work for you? They will call when they are on the way. Great, I said. A little while later, I received the call that they were on the way. This time, two electricians showed up--both friendly and highly professional. Ignoring the details--they discovered that the one receptacle that previously had been ignored (the refrigerator receptacle - covered by the refrigerator) was the culprit. They now have a sea story they can tell others about the painted receptacle. :-) The senior electrician re-checked all the work that had been previously completed and acknowledged that it was correct, it was just the single circuit that did not seem to have an issue--that did have the issue. The senior electrician spent half of his time instructing (what I assume to be is) his apprentice -- sharing knowledge and experience regarding old school wiring, old code vs new code, and other tips for the younger electrician to learn from and use in the future. As a retired US Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, this type of leadership and mentorship is something near and dear to my heart. After identifying the issue, they went about resolving it quickly and efficiently, the senior imparting knowledge to the apprentice. I can only add this--if I ever have an electrical issue--I know the one number I will call: 616-447-8774. I wore two stars, but Five Stars is not enough for these guys! -

This week, I had a tree come down in my backyard and rip the electrical meter box and mast clean off my house. VerPlank managed to get someone to check out the damage, sent someone to replace the meter box, and remount everything to my roof, and I had the power company turn power back on within hours.Service was prompt, informational and incredibly kind during a very stressful time for me. I will be a returning customer, but hopefully not for another tree incident. Highly, highly recommend. -

I pride myself in being able to troubleshoot electrical issues. No power in my garage but no breakers out. Traced lines, verified power out from my box, etc. I thought I found and checked all of the gfi outlets. Finally gave in and called VerPlank. They had gone above and beyond for me in the past so I went there first. The tech came out, walked into my garage, found the hidden (behind a shelf) gfi outlet. He hit reset, smiled and left. They didnt even bill me. This is an awesome company. -

Awesome company-highly recommend!!We needed to replace our old standby generator. Dave VerPlank came to our house and gave us a reasonable and competitive quote on a Briggs & Stratton generator. The new generator was installed quickly and worked great on our first power outage. Unfortunately, on our second power outage, the generator failed (on a weekend of course). We had the generator only 4 1/2 months. We left a message at VerPlank over the weekend and got a call back first thing Monday. The technician, Marc, was at our house on Tuesday to diagnose the problem and discovered several major parts in the generator had failed. When Marc contacted Briggs & Stratton he was told because the generator had exceeded the 90 day window they would not replace it but only repair. That was not satisfactory to Dave VerPlank. He called us that evening, after business hours, and told us we would be receiving a brand new generator. Marc, Steve and Parker arrived THE NEXT MORNING to install our new generator and everything went smoothly.I can not speak highly enough about this company, their owner, Dave VerPlank and their staff. They stand behind their products and provide excellent customer service. -

Working with VerPlank was a great experience. The person who answered the phone listened to my issue and recommended Matt because he has a lot of experience with older homes. I received a confirmation call the day before the appointment, Matt arrived on-time and diagnosed the problem within 30 minutes and fixed it in under 2 hours. He had a great attitude and was pleasant to interact with. At one point he even said something like, if this isnt the problem, dont worry, well figure it out. As a contrast, two weeks earlier we had a different electric company come out and their 2 guys spent almost 3 hours and couldnt figure out what was wrong, told us wed probably need to rewire and theyd send a different person out to estimate that. Thankfully, they were slow to schedule the follow up so after reading reviews of VerPlank, I gave them a call and he fixed the problem very quickly. I highly recommend VerPlank! -

The neutral wire on our house came loose and wreaked havoc on our electrical system, and I had no idea what to do. I called Dave, and he had Matt come over right after the job he was already working on. Matt arrived an hour before estimated, and was able to quickly identify and fix the problem. We had a power surge. Blew up our computer. Fridgewent crazy thinking worst case scenario.This company was very caring from the very beginning, in a horrible time. The receptionist was extremely nice caring toward my wife. The owner was ver respectful. Steve and Collin worked very throughly. I forgot to turn on 4 breakers and thought power was fried to part of my house. They looked at the box , flipped the breakers didnt make us feel bad , and that worked. However gfis and switches, along with appliances were damaged. They changed out the switch, we will do gfis. Gave us great information for what to look out for.Very amazing. A representative of VerPlank came to my newly purchased home to evaluate the electrical system. The home was built in 1910 and has a mixture of knob and tube, cloth Romex and modern Romex. I had some concerns about the older wiring in the house and was prepared to start chopping into walls and ceilings to remedy it, if necessary. After going through the entire house and listening to my concerns, he pulled me out of my doom and gloom mindset and offered potential solutions that he would preform if it was his own home. He also told me how we could consolidate our future electrical projects so that I could get the most out of my money when I do have them come out to make some changes/upgrades. Im going to start creating a to-do list after Ive lived in the house for a bit and when Im ready Ill be more than happy to give VerPlank my business, as they lifted a potentially very expensive weight off my shoulders with their free evaluation. -

Dave from VerPlank returned our initial call within 24 hours, and had an electrician on site by 8am the next day. Our technician was Matt, who did a great job all around. He was very respectful of our home, taking care to keep it clean and avoid damage. He even took his shoes off without us having to ask. Matt worked quickly, and expertly solved two separate and very tricky issues that were beyond my DIY skills. After that, he also relocated a light fixture, and repaired the lights over our stove, doing a great job on both. This company is very professional and knowledgeable, Id hire them again without hesitation. Total cost for 4 hours was about $400, including about $10 in parts. -

I am new to the Grand Rapids area and moved into my home in the summer of 2019. I had Dave VerPlank and Matt one of his men come out to run 80 amps of service and a few other small jobs. They both arrived on time and did the work professionally and timely. They did such a good job I had Matt come back and install some external motion lights and swap out a few fixtures that needed an upgrade. I was able to purchase everything through VerPlank Electric and the job was completed on time and they have provided me a great value. I called David to install electrical wiring and box for a Hot Tub I purchased in January of 2021, David dispatched a electrician and helper in May time from due to I was told Hot Tub would be delivered in June. They did a very clean installation of the wiring from inside the house out to where the hot tub would be placed. All that was left to do was once the hot tub was delivered was to run from box to hot tub. I found out the hot tub came in 2 days before I was to leave for 2 weeks on a business trip out of the country. I called Verplanks office and the lady that answered was for cooperative in trying to schedule the remaining install before I left. They got the installation complete. Verplank does high quality work and will do it correctly and cleanly to look good. I highly recommend them for any electrical needs. -

Ver Plank electric is a 5 star company.We were solidly impressed by the quality of professionalism, service and level of detail Dave and his entire staff showed.We had major issues with the wiring in our nearly hundred year old cottage. It requiring an upgraded 200 amp service panel; alot of detective work to find the sources of multiple wiring problems. We added a second service panel, new lines inside and additional outside wiring for future HVAC and security needs. Also installed a whole house surge protector and a 20K stand by generator.Small house, big project.Ver Plank covered it all, got it right done right the First time and on budget.The co -ordination of the trenchers, County inspectors, gas inspector, generator install and staff was seamless.Elaine, the office liaison, is a joy to work with. Organized, timely and detail oriented, plus a really nice personality as a bonus.Even better, Dave shows up and you can talk with him in person if you have any questions.Dave’s guarantee is good too! Just before our year anniversary of the install we were hit by lighting. None of our appliances experienced any damage due to the whole house surge protector and a transfer control board that was damaged by the strike was immediately replaced at no cost to us.We have tried other Electricians. Not one matched the quality of Ver Plank. I don’t write many reviews but this company gives outstanding service and deserves one -
