    I have done 3 total-gut remodeling jobs, the most recent one with Essig Renovation and Design. It was nearly a complete rebuild of the interior of our house due to a broken pipe that sent 34,000 gallons of water through the house. (Note: Essig did the rebuild, not the remediation). They are, by far, head and shoulders above any contractor we’ve worked with. In general, they have superior communication, operate within the timeline and budget they present to you (of course barring any unforeseen issues or change orders), and employ highly skilled workers. Specifically:Costs: Essig provides a detailed cost estimate for each aspect of the project (demolition, site prep, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, etc.) that is further broken down by Essig’s costs and client spec costs (e.g. anything the client chooses, such as lighting, appliances, flooring, etc.). Barring any unforeseen issues or change orders, Essig’s costs are fixed. On the client choice side, they provide a range of low/high based on the client’s final choices. Our experience was that because they did such a detailed initial inspection of the project, Essig provided extremely accurate cost estimates, so you aren’t exposed to the old adage, ‘take the estimate and multiply by 2 (or more)’.Timeline: Essig provided a timeline of each aspect of the project. They do most work in-house, with some subcontractors. We only had one hiccup with a subcontractor, but Essig stepped in and remedied the situation quickly. Our project was completed within a couple of weeks of the original estimate.Communication: Essig uses a construction platform, co-construct, which houses all client interaction. It contains your cost estimates, invoices, progress reports, client choices and messaging. Messaging your team is as simple as either sending an email or accessing the platform via phone or desktop. We experienced fast messaging turnaround.Highly Skilled Employees: We cannot say enough about Essig employees, all of whom were proactive, quick to respond, and highly skilled. Brayden, our initial estimator and point person, provided the spot on cost and time estimates mentioned above. Brian, the overall project manager and project point person, met with us and the rest of the team on site *each week*. We also had regular, timely communication with him throughout the project, as he resolved any issues or questions that arose. Joseph, our designer, was fantastic. He listened to our desires, designed it, and put it on paper just like those TV shows. He also expertly guided us through all the selections we had to make. Sussi, our on-site foreman, not only functioned as the general leading the troops, she also used her extensive knowledge and carpentry/tile/you-name-it skills to complete the project. The crew members were all highly skilled and it was clear they loved what they did. A huge shout out to TJ, Chris, Jon, Judah, Jake, Josh, Andy, Alex, Kevin, Seb, Matt, Sara, Terry and of course Dan Essig, the founder/owner. We congratulate him on a superior company with superior employees. We highly recommend Essig for any design/build project.

    Working with Essig Renovation & Design was amazing from start to finish. They tackled my full house remodel and the result was SO GOOD. They were professional and super nice. I definitely plan on using them for any future projects I have.

    I have used Essig Renovation and Design on many occasions, and they are incredible! The largest project I used them for was a complete gut and renovation of a 6-unit apartment building. Its hard to describe the difference in the building before and after they started work on it, but peoples jaws hit the floor when they see how beautiful the apartments are when they walk in.The second largest project was renovating a duplex that was in such bad shape that shortly after I bought it, one side of the duplex came off the foundation and a 20 foot section of the second floor literally fell off the duplex. After they finished work on it, the units are stunning and we get compliments on them all the time.Ive used them for smaller jobs as well, and even their handyman division and the work has always been absolutely top-notch! Their work is impeccable, their design work is stunning, and everyone there is a pleasure to be around.

    Essig is a wonderful contractor. John and Sussi were detail oriented, organized and great communicators. They are collaborative problem solvers.     We worked with Essig renovation on a main floor renovation project from June-October 2021. I cant say enough positive things about Dan and his team. Alex and Sarah completed the majority of our work. They were punctual, communicative, and very hard working. We lived in our home during the entire process, and Sarah/Alex were very kind to our kids (and dogs) along the way. If we ever ran into troubles Dan was easy to get in contact with and made regular site checks to ensure the process was moving along smoothly. After having a terrible experience with a contracting company in 2017, Essig was a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend working with them of any of your renovation needs!

    The Essig crew did a total renovation of my house, taking a gutted structure and turning it into a beautiful home. The workmanship is top-notch, rates are reasonable, and most importantly, they extremely flexible and pragmatic. As with any old building in Pittsburgh, there are unknowns when starting work. Dan (owner) and his team went above and beyond to find practical solutions that fit my budget. In some cases, they just absorbed the cost. It was clear from the start that a job well done for them meant a happy end customer. I should also note that they rely on a small clutch of subcontractors for specialty work – I found them to be equally reliably, friendly and honest.
