    We had a problem with our smart thermostat after we tried to hook it up ourselves. We thought it was a wiring issue, but they came out and determined the app needed to be reinstalled and reconfigured to properly handle our particular setup. Would definitely call them again.

    Portman Mechanical was kind enough to help upgrade my hot water boiler system, even though it was a touch outside their usual work and Im an hour from their shop.The results are amazing! My house is finally comfortable after fighting with the boiler system for 8 years.This is ironic as I wrote The Home Comfort Book, and help clients make their homes super comfortable, yet I had barefoot children until this winter.The house now heats very evenly thanks to new valves and more importantly a new variable speed pump specified by hydronics expert Richard McGrath, who Portman also worked flawlessly with.Everyone is an absolute pleasure to work with and wants to do the best job possible.Tim Portman, the owner, has been a pleasure to get to know, and is just as finicky as I am about technical details.Kevin and Chris who did the install had to struggle to figure out a miswired and cobbled system, then change valves in very tight spots above the basement ceiling without having to open up drywall (which I was resigned to have happen.) Finally they installed the new pump in a piece of what I call blue collar art. Thats largely unseen work thats pretty, even when it doesnt need to be. Its a sign of really excellent tradespeople.Ive worked with a number of HVAC companies through the years, and I have to say the personalities and work quality at Portman Mechanical are amazing. I highly recommend using them if youre in their service territory!I look forward to working together with them on a client project in the future.

    Our furnace quit on us on a very cold night. We decided to call Portman the next morning because of all the good reviews they received. We couldn’t be happier. They were able to send Christopher out to us in an hour or so and he was great about explaining what all he was doing to fix the problem. No hard sell to buy a whole new unit, which was greatly appreciated. He had us back up and running in about 30 minutes. We will definitely use Portman again in the future. Thank you!

    I had my air ducts serviced and Portman Mechanical was recommended by the company because the pilot was not automatically igniting. My usual company was not available until Wednesday. Tim Portman came himself and got the system up and operating in no time at all. I appreciate good customer service and I’ll use Portman for future needs.

    I was having trouble with my furnace starting up then shutting down and no heat. Bought the part and did it myself bust still wasn’t working . Decided to call Portman who I have used in the past and am very pleased with. Chris stopped in solved a small issue as to why it didn’t work and was in and out in no time. Very efficient and knowledgeable and I would recommend them anytime.

    I called Portman to recharge my AC system. I knew it had a small leak and would need service. Portman was very flexible with scheduling my service. Mike called 25 minutes prior to let me know he would be there on time. When he arrived he was very personable and professional. Once the system was service it worked great. I feel the service was outstanding, and just as important to me was reasonable priced. I will be using them on a yearly based for a spring tune up without doubt. Great job to the whole Portman team .

    We are happy with their workmanship and professionalism! I searched and searched for a company that can understand our needs and the clean, organized and professional work we expected. I spoke with 6 different companies and unfortunately neither of the others made me feel comfortable enough to proceed with the next steps in the process. Tim was the most knowledgeable person and most professional. He was not just our sales representative; but also the installer! He and his team did a great job and I will gladly recommend them to anyone. Let me just add, our furnace was only 3 years old; but unfortunately, we had to bring in another company (Portman Mechanical) to clean up the mess left behind from the original company. I just wished what I know now; how heating and cooling along with duct work should look like and work, I would have never selected the other company! Thank you, Tim and your team; great work!!

    Everyone at Portman Mechanical is so helpful, friendly, and professional. My furnace stopped working right before the temperature was about to drop so I was stressing about the situation, but they handled everything wonderfully. Scheduling the service was easy and organized. Someone was able to come out the same day to diagnose the problem, then went to get the motor that was needed and came back to install it. I was back up and running in no time! They were very efficient and extremely friendly. The price was also very reasonable. I would highly recommend calling Portman Mechanical for any of your heating and cooling issues!

    Portman Mechanical consulted on our whole home renovation and addition. They were a real pleasure to work with. Tim (the owner) worked with us on energy modeling, duct design, specifying a system, and quality control for our GCs work. Other HVAC contractors, including our GCs, basically scoffed at the idea of using an air source heat pump in Cleveland. Tim immediately got what we were going for and helped make our electric home a reality. If you want to install a heat pump in northeast Ohio you should be working with Portman Mechanical. I really cant recommend them enough.

    We had a great experience with Portman from the beginning to the end of the process. We had a hot water tank replaced and new furnace and AC unit. Tim took the time to go over our options and supplied us with quotes for multiple units to fit our budget. Tim is very enthusiastic about educating his customers, not just selling them a product or service. On the day of install it was pouring and there was not a trace of rain or foot prints in our home. The entire staff were friendly, courteous and just a pleasure to work with.

    The Service at Portman Mechanical is OUTSTANDING! The technicians are friendly, smart, hard working and timely. The knowledge of what is best for the customer is superb. Tim and his crew present all options for any heating and cooling needs. They have always been available when needed in an emergency. They take the time to detail what needs to be done to fix the problem and give several options of how the handle the issues . There are no pressures to upgrade. They are neat and clean up after themselves when completed. I give my highest recommendations and thank them for jobs ( I have a annual service check up - very reasonably priced) WELL DONE .

    Called Portman Mechanical for a same-day service call to fix a furnace at one of my rental properties. They were able to send a technician out there within only a few hours. Mike was very nice and professional, and was able to quickly fix the furnace during the same visit. Will definitely call them again if I have another HVAC issue.

    Above all else, Portman Mechanical will get the job done. We had a slow leak coming from our hot water heater that seemed minor so we just wanted them to take a quick look. Mike was the service man who came to help us and I trusted him immediately, he knew what he was talking about and yet was willing to explain it to my knowledge level. As soon as Mike saw it he knew that we would need to replace the whole system. He wasnt able to do it immediately but had me set up an appointment for the following work day to have them replace it. Jennifer was an absolute pleasure to work with on the phone and we got them all set to replace it. When Mike and Chris showed up to replace the hot water heater they ran into unforeseen issues with our water shut off. I had to call the city to turn off the water but they couldnt do it until the next day. While this situation was frustrating, Mike kept his cool and kept us cool. The very next day the city turned off the water first thing in the morning and Mike and Chris showed up right after to get to work. They were working with a really weird set up from previous work done but they still got the new one installed with all the hiccups for the original quote price. I wasnt able to be there in person but if questions arose Mike was a phone call away and they really took care of it all. He even followed up that evening to see if there were any more concerns that I had. Mike, Chris, and Jennifer all were very pleasant to work with and went above and beyond. We HOPE to not need any more service in the near future but we know who will be our first call if we do need help.

    Found Portman through the American Standard website and I couldnt be happier with the service I received from start to finish. Jennifer helped me communicate my problem with the technician and answered several questions. Portman was honest, fair and repaired my AC unit within a couple days of me contacting them. I had a quote from another American Standard dealer that was about 60% more than Portman. I will definitely be using Portman in the future.

    Excellent service and quality work! Hard to find these days. We’ve had other people come through when we first bought our house. They just tried forcing us into a new heating an AC unit. Portman came out and was more than willing to help us get as much life out of our system as we can. You have lifetime customers here, and when we do finally need a new unit Portman Mechanical will be the ones to install it.

    Investing in a new HVAC system can be such a daunting and nerve wracking experience...     Highly recommend!!! Called about a strange and worrying smell coming from the duct work and what we thought was the furnace. Mike was able to arrive in less than 2 hours. Although the problem ended up not being the furnace & was outside the house, Mike was SO helpful and kind to troubleshoot with us for 45 minutes. He really cared about figuring out the issue for our safety. Will DEFINITELY be calling him back for all our HVAC tune-ups and work!

    I couldnt be happier with the excellent service I received for both furnace and A/C. They arrived promptly at the scheduled time, identified themselves to me, and thoroughly checked both units. I was extremely impressed that they checked for CO upon entering the house to do the furnace checkup. Many others dont even bring a carbon monoxide monitor with them. And for my A/C which had been leaking coolant, they actually took the time to see if the part that needed replacing was under warranty. It was!!! What a relief. As a homeowner its very important to me to to have trust in the company thats doing the work, I very much have that with Portman Mechanical and thats due to their professionalism and integrity. Without any reservation, I highly recommend them.

Tim took the time to walk through the details of the install including the math related to Gas supply and code for intake and exhaust.     My wife and I bought a house in 3/2020. Our home inspector wasnt able to test our AC when we had the inspection done since there was snow on the ground. Turns out it didnt work. Our house flippers we bought it from didnt bother doing anything with it. The furnace was only a few years younger than ourselves, and on its last legs. We went through 2-10 home warranty to get these replaced. After a couple months of arguing with 2-10 (both us and Portman Mechanical spoke with their representatives and spent hours on hold--thank you Portman Mech) we were able to get approved to replace our system.Tim Portman came out to do an assessment on our 30 year old system, explained all of our options, and the prices involved, and was very considerate of the fact that we were expecting twins, so he wanted to make sure we werent spending too much. He is an HVAC expert, and a consummate professional. We cant recommend him enough. Every step of the way, he and his team fought our home warranty company to make sure we got the repairs we deserved.Tim identified flaws with our water heater that we were not even aware of, and werent informed of by our home inspector. We had them make some modifications to our water heating system at extra cost, but when they ran into some unexpected problems, they went ahead and replaced the parts they didnt quote us for, at their own cost--we didnt pay. Stand-up guy, stand-up company.

    I have been totally satisfied with the work of Portman Mechanical. I have several furnaces, two of which are rather old, they have helped maintain and keep them in top running condition. I have never felt they are trying to sell me anything. They present all the options and are able and willing to work with my budgetary constraints. I had them install a new furnace this summer and they were able to creatively add A/C to the unit into a 110 year old home that previously never had A/C. They were able to offer a financing plan and I would not ave been able to update my system otherwise. I find them to be friendly and professional and they called more then once just to make sure everything was running well and to see if I had any questions.I had previously been with another HVAC company and now give my business to Portman.

    The professionalism that Tim and his crew brought to the project was outstanding. Tim showed up to my house for the estimate on time. He listened to what I was looking for and gave me his best solution. Then went over the HVAC system that he installs, American Standard, and all the bells and whistles that come with it. Its a pretty cool pice of equipment especially the thermostat provided. Tim and his team of knowledgeable gentleman showed up on day of install, dismantled all of my outdated duct work and reinstalled a sleek up-to-date duct system. It took them a mere 2 days to accomplish the substantial task. Now my wife, dog, and I are enjoying the comforts of AC that we did not have before, and soon heating the house will not be such a task as I only heated with wood in the past.     Our older system was in need of maintenance and repairs, it ran on R22 refrigerant (still available for service, but no longer manufactured). In the midst of the late spring heatwave, a service representative was able to be scheduled. Soon our OLD unit was serviced and running. We learnt from our technician that he assumed a leak in the cooling system, though without further testing he could not tell for sure.At that time, of the maintenance, my wife and I expressed interest in the possibility of updating our equipment. We scheduled for an appointment about a month later for a sales meeting with Tim Portman, Owner & and by chance our service technician.About 2 weeks later we had to call for help, OLD system was failing to cool again. Tim was able to swing by later that day to add refrigerant, and left information on some of the HVAC options available to us.We meet soon after with Tim Portman to discuss of needs and desires in a new HVAC system. We were able to make our order that day for the Furnace, a Heat Pump, Thermostat, and other items we wanted done.The installation of the new system began on a Monday, just as the OLD system had begun to fail again that weekend. As the installation progressed, and the Heat pump was installed, that technician found a small leak on the outside of the house in the cooling line that was repaired. The entire installation was Professional, Clean, and Efficient.In short, We are very happy with our new American Standard HVAC System. Its effortless to operate, goes automatically from AC to Heat, from Heat Pump to Furnace, to off. Whatever is needed it does it. Its alsoso very quiet. As my wife says I love it!. And of course, Tim Portman and his Technicians are the best.

    Tim and Mike are fantastic. I had them install a new high efficiency furnace and a/c unit in our home. Tim was great in estimating the size of the new equipment (I had made changes to the home since the old equipment was installed, so re-sizing BTUs and tons of cooling capability was really helpful - the other contractor gave me a bid based on a size-for-size replacement, which would not have been appropriate). The equipment they sold me was a perfect fit for my application, unlike another contractor who insisted on quoting more (and more expensive) equipment than I needed.Tim is very knowledgeable about HVAC equipment and was very helpful to me in finding that sweet spot of buying enough capability (and technology) but not over-buying.I have many positive things to say about their work, and Im sure Ill leave some out here. But - they showed up on time on the scheduled date. They were neat and clean personally, and kept my house neat and clean while they did their work. These guys are craftsmen - their work is very tidy and they are very exacting in doing things right, and the right way. No cutting corners with these guys! They also were very willing to take the time to answer my questions and make sure I was comfortable and confident about what they were doing. They finished on schedule and tidied up after themselves in every part of the house they did work in. When I had a post-installation question they were prompt in coming back out to give me the guidance and support I needed. I dont think you could ask for anything more than Tim and Mike have done.And the equipment worked as promised - I have saved hundreds of dollars in gas and electric costs over the last 8 months.I heartily recommend Portman Mechanical, whether for replacement of HVAC equipment or servicing of existing equipment. They will always be my go-to guys for all my heating or cooling work. Next on the list will probably be adding multiple zones ...

    This company is by the BEST! Tim, Mike and Kevin are all seriously amazing at what they do. Everyone is very efficient, kind, very clean, respectful, they have fun, and they do fair and HONEST work. I have had them out to our house to put in a new furnace, heat pump, thermostat, switch our appliances from propane to natural gas, hot water tank and a few other minor things.     When the A/C went down this week I scheduled the earliest available appointment (about a week out), but when my wifes asthma started to act up they made room for us and came out the same day.     We were looking to get another year out of our older furnace that needed a repair. Tim originally came out to look at the furnace to determine if it would be recommended to have it repaired given its age (and gave us some great tips on energy efficiency based on what he was seeing at our house). We were happy to learn that they could recommend doing the repair and getting at least one more winter out of our older furnace (when others said no, or double the cost for repair). Mike did the repair. He was very knowledgeable about fixing what was a unique technical issue, provided excellent service, and charged us a very reasonable price (even in this time of inflation) to do the job. With his help, were very happy to be getting at least another winter out of our older model furnace. We also consulted their website to determine what is the current best rate for natural gas and electrical. I wouldnt be surprised if they are one of the most knowledgeable teams in heating and cooling out there.
