    I want to thank Jim Meyer for the excellent job he performed in very difficult circumstances. He added on a historically correct front porch on our 100 year old Capitol Hill row home. He navigated through permitting and a very difficult mandatory security deposit situation that the Department of Transportation handed us.The end result was a beautiful porch that not only added value to our property but, made our very finnicky neighbors happy as well. If you want a job done well, on time and with a respect to a set budget JF Meyer is an excellent choice.

    We had a great experience working with Jim and his crew. We had just purchased our home and needed the entire main floor and upstairs to be painted prior to moving in. Jim was able to accommodate us within short notice and his crew worked diligently and effectively over the course of 3 days to complete the job. It was especially critical that the work be completed timely as we had scheduled for the floors to be refinished after the painting. They were clean and meticulous with the work, making sure that all repairs to walls were done prior to painting. Everything we requested was executed exactly as we wanted and the communication was great and timely. We highly recommend J.F. Meyer for your home projects.

    I have used Jim Meyer’s services for over 20 years. He has repaired and painted the exterior and extensive woodwork on my 100 year old stucco house. His company has rebuilt my front steps and installed oversized half round gutters with rain chains. The most recent project was a full first floor paint job including the expert patching of the ceilings and walls where my electrician took out the old knob and tube wiring. I had gaping holes in the original plaster that were repaired in a way that blended seamlessly. I trust that Jim and his team will always do an excellent job.

    Jim Meyer and his team have done interior/exterior carpentry, interior/exterior painting, and window replacement for us, beginning in the summer of 2016. We have, in every case, been pleased with the results. His prices are competitive with other well-regarded contractors in Washington, DC. The window replacement project mentioned above required DC historic district permitting and approval, and Jim knew how to get the paperwork and inspection details through the system efficiently. Jim has excellent rapport with his team, and there seems to be a level of mutual respect here that is lacking in many other small contracting firms. First class operation.

    I hired Jims company to replace all of the front windows on my 1886 row house in DC (see before/after photos -- before is white trim and after is black trim). This was a somewhat complicated project because the previous windows were the wrong size for the openings in the brick, which meant that in addition to replacing the windows all of the openings had to be resized (requiring demolishing and reconstructing the drywall and trim on the interior).Jim carefully planned the project, first doing some exploratory work before providing a complete estimate for the work. He secured the needed permits, which was pretty quick since he has a good relationship with the historic preservation office in DC.Jims crews did an excellent job with every component of the project, from the window installation to the trim work on the interior to the drywall and painting work. They also created historically appropriate lunettes to install above the windows.The project involved a good amount of interior work, and the workers were always respectful of our home (covering everything and putting down material to protect the wood floors) and cleaned up at the end of each day. It made living through a construction project tolerable.Jim was responsive throughout the planning and execution of the project. I highly recommend working with him and he will definitely be my first call for future projects.

    We have had Jim Meyer and his team do 3 different projects in our 1906 cooperative. Painting, installing a soundproof wall on a party wall, and a complete gut renovation of the bathroom. While Jim is not the cheapest contractor around, I believe you get what you pay for and the work has been very high quality. Jim is very honest - if he doesnt think something will work, hell tell you, and why. On the infrequent occasion that something wasnt done correctly, he sent his crew back to fix/repair. As with any contractor, there is always something that isnt exactly as planned, but my experience is that every single contractor will miss something, so I havent deducted any stars for that! Very responsive by phone and email, with good communication and transparency on costs. I would highly recommend, especially if you are in a historic building.

    Jim Meyer has been our go to painter and contractor for the last 10 years. Our home is 117 years old, cedar shake with wood trim so our maintenance on a yearly basis is continuous. Jim and his crew always arrive when they say they will, complete the work in a timely fashion, they take the time to do the job correctly. For us, working with someone of such integrity is reassuring, I never worry about anything when Jim and crew are in charge.
