We are so happy we found Argos Timber Works and Timber Frames! We were trying to decide how to rebuild in Paradise, CA after the 2018 Camp Fire and my father and husband had always wanted to build a timber frame house. We didnt think we would find anyone so close to home - just down the valley in Jackson! My husband drove down to visit and was so impressed with Jason and his workshop.Jason was a joy to work with - very professional, honest, enthusiastic and willing to listen to our ideas. He came up with a wonderful design for our canyon-view property and within a few months he arrived with the beams, posts, bents, and timbers. (We certainly learned a whole new timber-frame vocabulary!) In two days, our timber frame was erected. The precision that goes into crafting the timbers so they all fit together perfectly was amazing to witness - it really is incredible to watch and the whole Argos team was amazing. Visitors to our home enter with a gasp at the beauty of timber frame construction and we couldnt be happier to have such a beautiful space be our new forever home.

I had the pleasure of working with Jason with Argos Timber Works this past fall. I originally had plans drawn up for a regular pole barn and reached out to Jason to see if he would build it. After looking over the plans, he told me it was a poorly built barn, and he could build a timber frame to match the same layout. Not knowing anything about timber frames, he educated me on them, including their history, durability, and all around great features and looks. This was the first time working with a contractor and have heard horror stories from friends and familys regarding reliability and honesty when building a structure or home. Jason was amazing. He took care of everything and I literally had to just sit back and watch our barn go up stage by stage. He showed up every day from dusk until dawn dedicatedly working on our barn. The most impressive thing I loved about Jason was his pride and passion for building timber frames and timber frames themselves. Every cut he made was so precise and perfect, and fit flawlessly. On the barn raising day, everything went just as planned, fit for fit. Now with our finished barn it looks absolutely amazing. We live on a highly traveled highway, and we get many induvial stopping in to take a look at it. I would HIGHLY recommend Jason and Argos Timber Works to absolutely anyone. Jason started as a contractor and ended as a great family friend, and also as my daughter calls him, barn guy.

SPECTACULAR! So excited to add the finishing touches and spend time with family and friends under our beautifully hand crafted pavilion. Jason was knowledgeable, informative (without being demeaning) and beyond patient with us. His projects are pieces of art and entertaining to watch be constructed. Would highly recommend him to anyone, especially those with very high standards.

I have seen the work this company does and am so impressed with the craftsmanship and attention to detail it displays My question is if you offer help in designing timber frame structures? I find so many modern architects just arent aware of the strengh and beauty of these structures! So glad I found your website

First off Jason is a great person and fun to work with. I am building a log cabin using raw logs and needed a ridge beam and top plates that are all 39 feet long. I made the beams in 12 to 14 foot lengths that needed to be spliced together. The problem was that I made the beams 10’x15’ and posts 10’x10’ on my own sawmill. They were NOT square. Jason expertly found the square beams inside of my rough cut timbers, cut splices and cut incredibly beautiful mortise and tenons. All of these cuts were completed about 200 yards from the build site. I moved the timbers to the site, hoisted them into place and they fit together perfectly! I was truly amazed. In my opinion Jason is a master timber builder!

I have nothing but praise for Jason Smith and Argos Timber Works.Go to their website and check out the pictures of our project, the timber frame shop in Kelseyville. Before we harvested and milled our wood, Jason gave us an introductory seminar on timber framing. He saw my building site and sketched a drawing of the building and promised me I would have a very special space for a shop. Over most of a year we worked together on the final plans. That fall we harvested and stored our lumber. The next spring Jason spent four weeks doing the joinery and leading a local crew in a barn raising. The precision and workmanship were incredible. We now have a beautiful building with the timber framed elements visible inside the shop and outside over a small porch.Although it is primarily a workshop, it has also been the perfect space for a large Thanksgiving dinner and most recently a jazz concert fundraiser for our local high school music program. (All wood interior has great acoustics)Jason was a pleasure to work with. He is incredibly knowledgable about timber framing and does amazingly precise and meticulous work.I recommend him without reservation.Gary Maes
