Heath immediately ordered a more modern inverter, contacted me when it arrived and did the install in a very timely manner and at a very reasonable price. Heath was patient with us over a span of two years, always answering our questions and never presurring us to make a purchase decision.The work was completed a month earlier than planned, was well done and works wonderfully for us. His crew were a delight to work with.I have consistently and unreservedly recommended Excite Energy to friends inquiring about home solar.9.18.24Now two years down range from installation and activation the gross production of our system has been 28.9 MWH, or nearly 14. MWH a year. For this calendar year were at 7.5 MWH export back to the grid versus 5.5 MWH import from the grid, so were once again solidly ahead on the import/export ratio.PGE recently informed us that efficient homes similar to our own use 422 units of energy, while our usage for the same period is 114 units.And this is with home charging of our EV for the past ten months.Our system has worked flawlessly, including switching immediately to backup battery power last week when PGE experienced a power outage.     We could not have been happier with the work that Solar NorCal/Excite Energy did designing and installing our solar array. They navigated the (very difficult) Sacramento permitting process excellently. I would and have recommended them to my friends and neighbors. Update: we had an issue with one of our panels—the optimizer went out. As soon as we reported the issue, they got the new part and installed it very quickly…it is not often that if something does go wrong, it is fixed that easily.

    I have not had an easier time reviewing a company. The entire team, from start to finish (and beyond) has set the bar so high!The initial meeting was very productive and professional, and the treatment throughout my solar installation was excellent.     SolarNorcal has our solid recommendation! Our 20 panel installation has been operating since April 2019. Great things about this company:1. Great customer service - Heath always makes time to thoroughly explain options, technical details, and customer questions. Calls and emails are returned promptly. This was true in our evaluation phase (prior to hiring them), and after signing our purchase contract.2. Competitive pricing - SolarNorcal pricing beat three other companies we spoke with (Tesla, Sierra Pacific, and SolarWorks).3. Successful installation - our grid was installed on time, and the crew maintained a clean work area. We did have some delays with the permit sign-off, but those things can happen.4. Streamlined warranty work - even though Heath was not responsible for monitoring our installation, 15 months after installation, he notified me that our unit was not reporting, and helped me get it back online within a week. Vince (co-owner) completed the work at our house. PARTS and LABOR were covered under their warranty, no forms to fill out, NO HASSLE, just excellent service.Thank you, SolarNorcal!

    Get a bid from SolarNorcal!If you are considering adding solar power to your home or are having problems with your currently installed solar system you MUST give Heath a call! My wife and I decided to put solar power on our home 2.5 years ago and are just as pleased today as when we first installed it!Heath is an electrical engineer not a solar salesman. There will be ZERO pressure from him! His residential installations come from personal referrals from happy homeowners like us looking to break away from our reliance on PG&E. We had numerous bids from solar contractors both locally and in the Bay Area. All very nice people. Heath’s bid was more than competitive but really it was his reputation and knowledge that really set him and his company SolarNorcal apart. He communicated well, had the project completed on time and stands by his work!We are more than pleased with our solar project and will be using SolarNorcal in the future if we ever move. I highly recommend Heath and his company! If you need any further convincing consider that other local companies have reached out to Him to help in designing some of their own projects!     I live in a new construction home where solar was offered as an option, but I wasnt thrilled about the quality and cost of the panels being offered by the builder. I researched a dozen companies before settling on SolarNorCal. The owner, Heath, was great to work with. He responded promptly to my e-mails with a ton of questions and was able to help me review pros/cons of different options. Nobody offered a design proposal that was even close in terms of covering our usage, aesthetics of the grid, quality, warranty, and value. We went with Panasonic HIT panels with Enphase microinverters and the 25-year Triple Guard Warranty. Panasonic has been around since 1918 so I feel reassured that they will be around for the duration of the systems lifespan. His team who did the installation were great. Heath was quick to respond to request for service. 10/10!

    Working with Solar Norcal was a great experience. From the beginning, their quote was the most competitive out of all the companies we solicited. Heath was very responsive and easy to work with. Throughout the installation, they were very honest about any extra work or added expense (which is typical in any type of construction). I never thought they were trying to take advantage of me. After the installation was complete, Heath and his team took the time to help me register my panels and even set up the app on my phone so I could track my solar production. They even helped me obtain a rebate offered by the panel manufacturer! Finally, they continue to monitor your solar production and are available to troubleshoot any issues that arise. When I noticed that one of my panels wasnt producing, I called Heath and he told me he had already ordered a new panel and came to install it! I was shocked at how fast they were on top of it. I would definitely recommend Solar Norcal to anyone looking to go solar.

    We had SolarNorcal install our solar panels back in October 2019. We are incredibly happy with the service and results. The owner, Heath, came to our house well prepared, presented everything clearly, answered all our questions, and had a competitive price.     Heath is super knowledgeable and will work with you to get you the perfect solar panel system. They will not steer you a certain way just to make more money. Heath actually talked me out of making some upgrades that would have made his company more money but actually did not make financial sense for me. We have an older home, have made lots of improvements throughout the years having experience with a LOT of service providers.     We contacted six different companies in 2018 to have a PV system installed on the ground in our backyard. A few of them insisted in only installing on the roof. One of them told us it was impossible to ground mount anything in our backyard. Two others and Solar NorCal were willing to do it and provided us with quotes. Solar NorCal’s bid was for components of higher quality, better specifications, and longer warranties than their competitors. Also, Heath was more accessible and more willing to spend the time to explain the possible alternatives and specifications for a PV system. He was also willing to complete the work before year’s end so we could qualify for the higher rebates still available in 2018. So we went with Solar NorCal. The installation was completed as expected and the system’s performance has been as rated. When one of our Solar Edge inverters recently failed, we notified Heath. The component was still under warranty and Heath’s crew replaced without any issues. I still call Heath from time to time if I have questions related to our system or PV technology in general. He is always prompt to respond and willing to spend the time to answer my questions, three years after our system installation!

    It took awhile to get solar panels installed on our new home. We had a number of sales presentations--each proposing different sized systems from a number of possible equipment suppliers and at widely differing price points. Some presentations focused almost exclusively on their low price, but lacked any details whatsoever about the contractor, their company, their reputation, or the equipment they proposed to install.Heath is not only the owner of SolarNorcal; he is also the salesman and design engineer. Being a nerd myself, I was very impressed by Heaths presentation and the detailed documentation and analysis of our actual daily electrical usage in designing a properly-sized system. He also recommended Panasonic PV panels that are higher efficiency (more watts produced per area size of the panel) and also more efficient over the lifetime of the panel. Other proposals specified third-tier panels to meet a lower initial out-of-pocket expense, but would be more expensive over the long term.Ben and Cody were very professional and made a very clean installation thats barely visible unless youre specifically looking for it. Plus they were just straight-up nice guys.We received notification from PG&E late Saturday evening that we were approved to turn on our system. Heath was kind enough to come out Sunday morning to load the software and monitoring system to put our panels online and generating power.

    Update August 2021: Had a glitch with the inverter. From the time I realized the system wasnt working until the time Heath fixed it (personally) was very acceptable all things considered. The vendor took its sweet time shipping a replacement under warranty but thats not on Heath and SolarNorcal. Overall Heath communicated great, managed expectations, and wasted no time when the parts were shipped even though I live a bit off the beaten path. No regrets about going with this provider for my Solar project!!I got 4 bids for my solar project and Solar NorCal came in the lowest by thousands of dollars. Heath and his team were great from the first meeting until the final installation of the monitoring system. I could not be more pleased with the price, speed, and quality. If you are installing solar power in Sacramento or the foothills and dont get a bid from Solar NorCal I think you are selling yourself short. Great company!

    These guys are awesome. We got 7 bids total & they were the 2nd-lowest of the 7. We went with them because we just felt more comfortable with what they were presenting. The bid packet that Heath put together was very detailed. He really knows his stuff & is very professional. It took a few months to get all of the bids in; Heath was very patient throughout the process & he answered all of our questions. No pressure, he just checked in from time-to time to see how we were doing. He also provided a long list of references.The install process was smooth & went quickly.     SolarNorcal was a pleasure to work with. When my solar system randomly stopped working, I started to look at a few companies that provide solar services in my area in Roseville, Ca. Surprisingly, there were many highly rated solar companies for me to choose from. I received quotes from 4 different companies in the area and SolarNorcal was the most responsive with the best price. As we all know the best price does not mean the best service, Heath at SolarNorcal was extremely knowledgeable and put me at ease.Throughout the whole process Heath continued to communicate with me and was very patient with my lack of knowledge in this industry. This ended up being a 6 week project due to inverter availability and SolarNorcal workload. Once again, Heath communicated everything to me and never left me wondering what their status was pertaining to my project.Many companies tend to prioritize larger jobs while forgetting the smaller jobs like an inverter install, not SolarNorcal. Jeremy the electrician SolarNorcal sent to perform the task also had top notch customer service and knowledge of solar systems. After replacing the inverter the system wasn’t entirely working. They went on the roof and discovered the wiring in the junction box had come apart, creating an arc and burning out. They fixed that as well and didn’t charge me more. In the end I highly recommend SolarNorcal and will continue to contact them for all my solar needs.

    I was very impressed by Heath and his colleagues at SolarNorcal. They provided very useful technical information upfront, including a 3-D software rendering showing seasonal sunlight patterns to estimate power generation potential from different panel configurations. Their installation crew was highly professional and responsive to my many questions as the work unfolded. I have high confidence that we selected the right configuration for our house as well as the right supplier. If we upgrade to a battery back-up system in the future, I will once again call on SolarNorcal.

    We met with a lot of solar sales folks and received 9 other bids before receiving Heaths bid through email. At first we did not consider them a top contender for our business. Our attention was focused on the folks we met in person. Then I emailed a question or two to Heath. He always responded very timely which then made me pay more attention to SolarNorcal. After closely looking at the proposed system and doing some initial research, I sent him more piecemeal questions. Some of my questions were basic and repetitive but Heath was always patient, honest, direct, forthcoming, and respectful. In our correspondences I never felt any sales pressure or impatience from him. He would simply respond to my questions and leave me alone to come up with my own conclusions before I was ready with another question.I probably had a lot of ignorant inquiries and assumptions about solar components and though I would have expected a short answer or none at all, Heath would quickly respond with a thorough explanation and was able to explain technical concepts in language I could understand. When I asked about other products he didnt carry he encouraged me to get a bid from another provider and compare everything--which I did. The difference is he backed up his products with white papers and neutral reference links and a long list of customer references, encouraging my own further research and due diligence.After I finally recognized the value of his proposed system I found his quote was extremely competitive for a top product, performance and warranties, and we decided to go with Solar NorCal. I felt confident that if we had issues with any of the components, we would not be stuck on our own or having to pay out of pocket twenty years down the road.They were flexible in making requested configuration and schedule changes. The install was painless, the crew was very polite and respectful, and Heaths timeline was accurate. We felt like we were dealing with an honorable and trustworthy company in SolarNorcal who was looking out for our best interests and I feel very fortunate we found them amongst that huge sea of solar installers. For us this was a huge investment and it will be for you too--I highly recommend you give these guys a call and see what they do to make it all worth it.

    We chose Solar NorCal to install our solar system three years ago. The quote was competitive and we felt very comfortable with Heath Kirin and his team. We have been happily generating power until recently, when I received an email from them stating that there seemed to be a problem with our reporting and it appeared that we were not generating power.     I would highly recommend Solar Norcal (aka Golden Bear Solar) as an installer. We interviewed several companies and went with them for the purchase of a system due to Heaths presentation and no-pressure sales and his companys competitive price.     I have had solar for over a decade but last year during covid, I decided I need more panels...     SolarNorcal was excellent from bid through activation. When providing the lowest bid, they also suggested which trees to remove for our rooftop system.     I have waited to write this review until our system had been operating for several months in case a flaw showed its head - none has. The install went smoothly from beginning to end - started and completed on time. Heath, Vince and Bud as well as the entire crew were a complete pleasure to work with, answering every question professionally and with good humor. The photos are of the Generac PWRcell Inverter and Battery installed in my garage and the subpanel for the critical battery items installed at the main electric service outside the house. The only negatives concerning the project were caused by the county permitting and inspection process due to their clerical error which in turn caused delays in PG&Es approval to connect to the grid. I highly recommend Solar Norcal for your solar installation - they were prompt, professional and solicitous of our needs as well as the best overall bargain of the six or so bids we received. FYI - last months bill from PG&E during the hellishly hot summer was a whopping $9.67.

    We interviewed four solar companies and SolarNorcal easily rose to the top. Heath approached our project as an electrical engineer, not a salesperson. Other companies used brochures to sell their company; SolarNorcal developed a solar panel system that served our needs. They handled the HOA, permits, and installation without any effort on my part. Their solar panels are backed by the manufacturer, as is the installation. The manufacturer backs SolarNorcals work. The choice was easy for us. We did not want salesmanship, we wanted the good engineering and installation delivered by SolarNorcal.

    Solar Norcal designed and installed a 19-panel system, using Panasonic panels, Enphase micro-inverters and an Enphase controller. After the Federal Investment Tax Credit, the system cost less than $13,000. The system was designed to produce 5.92 kW peak production using the California Energy Commission (CEC) rating. It has produced a best of 6.05 kW, so the design is near perfect.The owner, Heath Kiren, is an Electrical Engineer and he dogged the El Dorado County Planning Department to get the permit, after the County claimed the application was incomplete. It wasn’t and he had to show them how to read their application form to find the data they said was missing.The installation was smooth, the job site was nicely cleaned up and system was turned on without any issues. The owner has been very responsive to the questions I’ve had, usually responding with a few hours.My first true-up with PG&E yielded a $17.22 credit in my favor. To me that’s ideal. Not too much and I didn’t have to pay them. Working with the owner of a company is always a bonus and that’s the case with Solar Norcal. I heartily recommend them.

    Exceptional Installation and ServiceWithin 15 days of agreeing to a Solar installation my home was able to be up and running with Solar Norcal. Before agreeing to put Solar on my home, I took several months to learn about Solar and what it would mean to purchase or lease a system. Clearly if you can I would recommend buying the system outright. During this process I talked with over 10 companies to determine who would provide the best value proposition for our home.With Solar Norcal (Heath Kirin and Steve Jefferson) I found a great partner!!!     We considered several companies when searching for a solar provider this spring (2015). Solar NorCal stood out ahead of all others in their simple, no pressure approach. They provided plenty of analysis regarding the different types of solar, and encouraged a thorough vetting of their bid.     Could not give a higher recommendation, wish there was 6 stars. We moved up from So. Cal in 2017 and had solar on the last house. Was a nightmare corporate cookie cutter install, so I was familiar with all the down falls and lack of customer service. Moving into the Northern Calif home, 80% of all those in our cul-de-sac already had SolarNorcal, but I still shopped around. Ended up with them and a year later could not be happier.     I got bids from four companies to install solar panels and a backup battery at my home. Solar NorCal was the least expensive of all four, they were proposing to use higher quality equipment (with better warranty), and they were able to get me scheduled right away. Heath explained everything in detail over email, and was very responsive to all of my questions. They handled all the permits and paperwork (and kept me updated about status), and the installation went off without a hitch over two days. I cant recommend them highly enough.

Heath knows his business and was very accurate when figuring how many panels we would need. We never pay over $10/mo and our annual true up is never more than $55.     We used SolarNorcal to replace our 10+ year old solar. They sized a new system, removed & disposed our old system, worked with the City to obtain necessary permits for both the removal (of old) and installation (of new) and was able to almost double the size of our old system within almost the same footprint.     System installed September 2018. This was a long process for me and I wanted to ensure I did my homework, not only on the installer but also with quality, efficient panels with the best warranty. I had limited space to work with so finding panels with the best efficiency rating was important.Heath and SolarNorcal worked with me for over a year from our initial visit to getting everything installed. I had many other companies give me bids and talks about their products before I made my final decision. I ultimately went with SolarNorcal because the panel selection and my confidence in their knowledge with these panels. A bonus was the price was very competitive, which is surprising given how good of a product they use. Went with a 9.4kW Panasonic system. SolarNorcal knows they have one of the most efficient panels with the best warrantys. My monthly finance cost is almost the exact same I was already paying and the system will be paid off in a small number of years. It was a no brainer choice in the end!Heath was easy to work with and very responsive to all my questions... and trust me I had a lot! Install crew was awesome and got the job done in 2 days. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a system with the best warranty and one of the highest efficiency ratings.
