Our house hasnt really been touched since it was built in the mid-70s, so we wanted to select a partner that has experience with challenges like this. After reviewing many proposals, we selected Cottage Industries to develop a plan to suit our needs, then proceed with the build. The results have exceeded our expectations and we love our new living space! -

My wife and I chose Cottage Industries for a large project in our home. We added an addition to the back of our house, increased the size of our master bedroom closet and basically doubled the size of our master bathroom! We could not recommend Nick, Adam and Cottage Industries any higher. They were just absolutely fantastic. From the very first time we met Nick, we knew we were going to be very happy. Nick and Adam didnt just become our contractors, but became friends and took such wonderful care of us and our home. The process itself is a long one, but they never once got frustrated with us during design changes or small to large changes throughout the project, they just continued to deliver expert craftsmanship. Every single person that stepped foot on our property affiliated with Cottage treated us like their own family. Everyone has heard nightmare stories about dealing with large and small renovation projects, we didnt experience this at all. Not only would we recommend Cottage Industries to anyone and everyone, we will use them again on our next project and use them with confidence! We could not be happier with the end result. We have a beautiful living space and we dont plan on going anywhere. Nick, Adam and Cottage delivered us our dream home. -

We hired Cottage Industries to renovate our unfinished basement in Wayne to serve as a multi-functional space for our family of four, including a play space for our two young children, unfinished storage space and closet pantry, kitchenette with mini fridge, an exercise area, and a desk space. We could not be more pleased with the finished product! The process from start to finish was very smooth, including the initial estimating and design process, the kick off meeting, selection and ordering of materials, and the day-to-day work. We really appreciated that we were given multiple design options up front to help maximize the floor plan and work around HVAC vents, sections of the basement with lower ceilings, etc.The Cottage team seamlessly brought on and managed all of the individual subcontractors to complete the water proofing, egress installation, HVAC, flooring, dry wall, electrician, etc. They recommended a vendor for our kitchenette design and materials (cabinets and quartz countertop) who we were very pleased with (responsive, reasonably priced, good selection of materials, etc.). In addition to the kitchenette, Cottage also helped us design a built-in desk area that we could both use when working from home.Cottage was also very flexible allowing us to bring in other vendors if we wanted, such as the painter, who our project manager worked with directly to coordinate scheduling. They were also wonderful liaising with the electricians who installed our new generator that finally arrived in the middle of our renovation after months-long delays.Since I was working from home and pregnant during the project, I really appreciated how much care they put into keeping the rest of the house clean and dust free.We could not have had a better project manager: Jim was on site every day of the project to oversee and actually do a lot of the miscellaneous work himself. Jim’s friendly demeanor and project updates at the end of each day were greatly appreciated.Lastly, we’ve seen enough home renovation shows to know to expect the unexpected with a basement renovation of this scale. When various issues were discovered along the way, the Cottage team immediately informed us of the issues and gave us different options and costs to remedy them. This enabled us to stick to our schedule and original budget as closely as possible without having to worry about these unresolved issues surfacing down the road.We highly recommend Cottage Industries for a basement project like ours or any other complex home renovation project! -

Cottage Industries completed a full renovation of our kitchen in a major undertaking that included relocating the existing powder room and eliminating an exterior door and back stairway to the second floor. From start to finish, the work was outstanding, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. Before the work began, the firm’s designer, Nick, developed a creative plan to maximize utilization of the existing space and meet all of our needs. The project manager, John, was a superb craftsman and did a terrific job coordinating all the subcontractors for demolition, plumbing, electrical work, insulation, flooring, countertops, and painting. A construction team is only as strong as its weakest link, and each and every subcontractor did impeccable work. The renovations were completed on schedule, pricing from the co-owner, Adam, was clear and fair, and the end result was spectacular. We love our new kitchen and can’t thank Cottage Industries enough for their warm and professional service and wonderful craftsmanship in enabling us to achieve our goals for this project. -

I chose Cottage Industries for a project based on their commitment to the community and on glowing reports from friends. The key component of the project was a sunroom addition replacing a late 1950s attached greenhouse. In addition, the existing roof, siding, and windows on the house itself were reaching the end of their life spans. These items were added to the project along with some new exterior details. It was a pleasure working with Adam, Nick, and project manager, Tim. The design/build concept streamlined the process. The additional exterior work resulted in a seamless transition to the new addition.Cottage encourages communication. I dont think a day went by when I did not receive a text with updates. My questions were always answered promptly. Everyone working on the house arrived when expected and left the work areas clean and in good order at the end of the day. Needless to say, the craftsmanship was of the highest quality.I am extremely pleased with the final product and give Cottage Industries my highest recommendation. -

We employed Cottage Industries for a complete redo of our basement. Highlights included their ability to stick to condensed timelines which is quite an accomplishment these days, quality product, friendliness of the team and attention to detail. We are extremely pleased with the final outcome and glad to recommend them. -

In February of 2018, I was going through a renovation of a kitchen and two bathrooms with a company based out of Lancaster. They were a cabinet company who stated they could handle a complete renovation of my house. After five horrific weeks with this company, I had to fire them and look for another company who could undo the mess they made. I spoke to Adam Sherman from Cottage Industries. He was extremely professional and proactive. He and his team were able to come out immediately to asses the damage and pick up were this other company failed. I could not have been happier. We were living in the house through the renovation. Not only was it in the dead of winter, but I had a two year old and two dogs to take care of. Adam and his team were so caring and understanding. They went above and beyond to make sure my family had everything we needed. I finally felt heard, seen and safe in their hands. We ended up adding additional work to the job, which was never a problem for them. It was completed in May of that year. We love our home!October 2022 we had a major flood in our house. The hose in my sons bathroom sink burst. I was out of the house for 40mins at the time. When I returned, water was up to my front door, the entire ceiling of my kitchen was on my center island, plaster and water was gushing from the ceiling. I called two people immediately; my insurance company and Adam Sherman. Adam answered the phone right away and was out to the house the next day. He was able to work with the insurance company and our public adjuster. He was even able to match the work Cottage did in 2018! Cottage Industries is top notch! They are the only company I will use. -

We used Cottage Industries (Adam Sherman with Rick Klauss as Project Mgr.) on extensive home renovations: a complete kitchen remodeling and renovation, a bathroom and partial third floor renovation, and the renovation of a variety of our systems. We had a very positive experience with them overall. They were super helpful during the design phase. coming up with original suggestions that were super creative and that really helped make the completed kitchen unique and special. Cottage uses superb sub-contractors--excellent demo people, and the electrician, plumbing and HVAC contractor, tile contractor, and cleaning contractor were all first rate--and they manage them well. Rick is a masterful carpenter, a true craftsman, who has an unrivalled work ethic and really professional attitude. Cottage was easy to work with and responsive to our concerns, but,-perhaps most important, they were direct and honest about tough issues, like supply chain delays and what could and could not be done according to our schedule. We could not be more pleased with the result and would not hesitate to use them again, or to recommend them to others. -

We contracted Cottage Industries to demolish a dilapidated attached garage and replace it with a modern, light-filled addition we call our new sunroom. We could not be more pleased with the result! It was a difficult project both logistically and design-wise, compounded by supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. Led by Adam Sherman with Rick Klaus as project manager, Cottage Industries were true professionals in guiding us from design to construction to putting the finishing touches on the project. Adam immediately understood what we wanted to do; we appreciated his thoughtful suggestions, expertise, and communications throughout the project. Rick Klaus is an exemplary craftsman; his attention to detail, supervisory skills, and management of project complexities were top-notch. Without exception, the work of the subcontractors was excellent; they invariably went the extra mile to give us what we wanted. Perhaps most impressively, Cottage Industries completed the project essentially on time and on budget (setting aside a few extras we requested). We are delighted with our beautiful sunroom, which has quickly become our most-used living space. -
Review 10 (2016-10-18 - Rating: 5)
As an interior designer I have had such a good experience working with Cottage Industries, Inc. Having worked with many contractors I know how crucial and how rare it is to find one in which every professional communicates well and in which projects are finished on time and on budget. In the past I have been reluctant to recommend contractors to my clients because the contractors professionalism (or lack of) reflects back on me. With Cottage Industries I dont have this worry and Im so happy to recommend them since I know the quality will be top notch. Best of all my clients who hired them were so happy with the process and the final results! -
Review 11 (2020-04-04 - Rating: 5)
In 2016 my wife and I embarked on a full house renovation of a 6100 sq ft, 1893 stone Victorian home. We interviewed several design and build firms and chose Cottage because they seemed to care as much about restoring the home as we did. Nick and Adam were very professional and demonstrated their expertise in historic renovation from the very first meeting. The home had been vacant for over 2 years and needed everything redone. It had been broken up into 3 apartments and they helped us piece it back together to make it one home again and as close to the original layout as possible. They were with us from the initial design and budgeting phase all the way until a few months after we moved in. We replaced the heating system, added central AC, restored all the hardwood floors, built a new kitchen into a room that wasn’t a kitchen when we bought it, moved a first floor powder room, installed a mudroom, renovated two full bathrooms, took down walls, built new walls, built a master suite, added second floor laundry, structurally rebuilt a failing porch and porte cochere. They did all this work with extreme care to protect the historic integrity of the home and with skilled craftsman that take a ton of pride in their work. Russ, our project manager was excellent and the carpenters were amazing. They were clean, meticulous, professional, reliable, and did everything they said they would do and more. It was a huge project and they exceeded our expectations. We’ve been living in the house for a couple of years now and all of their work is standing the test of time. This review is long overdue and having dealt with other contractors for smaller jobs over the years and seeing my neighbors do the same I can say with confidence that these guys are some of the best around. I will be using them again as we undertake other projects around the property. -

We considered hiring an architect and then bidding out our home renovation (initially a kitchen expansion but changed to a kitchen reno in the existing space, rebuilding our enclosed front porch and installing new hardwood floors among other things) to contractors but instead preferred the idea of going with a design and build company. When we met with Cottage Industries, we immediately felt that they were a good fit for us. Their price point was mid-range and their prior work was top notch with good references. Nick listened to what we were looking to do and came up with several plans for us to consider. He worked with us to revise them to our liking and was very patient. The lead carpenter was outstanding and did a great job on our project. Any change in cost was thoroughly discussed and tracked and, in the end, they came in on time and on budget. how many people experience that with contractors!? Overall, very satisfied and would recommend Cottage Industries very highly to others. -

Cottage Industries finished my basement exquisitely, which included a partially sunk endless pool and a decorative fireplace. They also did a thoroughly unique sun room for me. It included floor to ceiling glass and we use it daily. Adam always kept his word and the answer was always yes to be sure the design and work was done to my satisfaction. After two unique, challenging projects, I easily give them 5 stars. -
Review 14 (2016-04-19 - Rating: 5)
We needed a design and construction company to completely redesign our kitchen while staying within the original footprint. We had many goals: to improve traffic flow and social space, maximize daylight, carve out a small mudroom with its own entrance, add a convenient entrance to our patio, and replace all appliances, cabinets, and counter top. We chose Cottage Industries, and they exceeded all expectations. Co-owner/designer Nick Walker was able to replace a bulky closet that housed a load-bearing support with a steel support finished as an elegant column. The orientation of the kitchen was redirected toward the patio, and the bright, open, classy space that resulted fits beautifully into our traditional home. Amazingly, it even preserves the privacy and charm of the adjoining dining room. We are thrilled. Working with the Cottage team was a pleasure from beginning to end. -
Review 15 (2018-11-26 - Rating: 5)
I used Cottage to redo the kitchen and laundry room in my Turn of the (20th) Century house. It was also the house I grew up in, so it was an emotional process for me as well. Everyone at Cottage was professional yet understanding. The first thing they did was listen, and we talked a lot before we even got started. Adam & Nick love what they do and they get along like brothers, which made it fun. They were honest about what would work, and what might not, and they always kept their word. The only delays were caused by me not being able to make up my mind. Their subs were very professional and committed to craftsmanship. -

The owners Adam and Nick have great design ideas and are a pleasure to work with. They finished our kitchen renovation in record time, thanks to our project manager Russs ability to co-ordinate the sub-contractors, who were all excellent too! -

Cottage helped us with a full house remodel. Russ (the PM) was beyond amazing and we are extremely happy with the result AND the way the project was handled. -

We engaged Cottage Industries for a major renovation, combining two condo units into a single, larger unit. We could not be more thrilled with the results. They were unfazed by the inevitable hiccups that arose along the way and found creative solutions to every potential problem. They forged a wonderful relationship with building management which made a complicated project run smoothly, and maintained excellent communication with us throughout the project, which resulted in the collaboration that we were looking for. Plus, the team’s attention to quality was unmatched. -

We couldnt be happier with the projects Cottage Industries has completed on our 1920 Georgian Colonial Revival. Outstanding craftsmanship from a professional, polite, tidy and respectful crew. From big projects, like our detached garage/apartment and family room conversion, to a tiny project to restore the integrity of a high traffic hallway floor, Cottage Industries has exceeded expectations. I give the highest recommendation. -
Review 20 (2017-08-03 - Rating: 5)
We selected Cottage Industries as our design/build partner for a significant expansion of our 148 year old home including full kitchen transformation, extended footprint and 2+ story addition. Cottage Industries and the partners they brought to the table did a stellar job managing our ambitious and specific vision and very high expectations with regards to client management, including navigating the many complexities that cropped up along the way. There were few surprises, and the work was completed very close to plan in timing and budget. We absolutely LOVE our new space! -
