Chuck at Kaller Roofing has helped us with repairs to our slate roof over the years, and recently they rebuilt our front porch roof that was literally starting to fall off the house. They worked through drizzly wet conditions and finished within a week, despite having to rebuild significant portions of the underlying structure and reattach everything securely to the brick. Chuck suggested replacing the heavy slate porch roof with a black metal or copper one, both to be in keeping with the style of the house and also to be much lighter weight. Mike was the foreman and he was able to do all of the carpentry himself and also created a new custom crown molding piece to make the new roof look seamless where it connects to the house. We have been pleased with the reliability and expertise of Kaller Roofing. They are pros at difficult old houses especially!

My house is over 100 years old and has the original slate roof.R. Haller & Sons have maintained our roof as long as we have owned the house, and records from the previous owner state the same. So my guess would be that R. Haller & Sons have been working on this roof for at least 30 years.A slate roof is beautiful and distinctive. A slate roof requires upkeep and, occasionally, there are issues. R. Kaller & Sons have done great work over the years. They are experienced, easy to work with and responsive.Richard Ellison was the roof technician here during the last visit. He was professional, helpful and informative.If you are looking for a reputable and experienced roofer, I highly recommend the team at R. Haller & Sons.

I had Kaller Roofing work on the mansard roof of my Philadelphia row home, replacing the slate shingles with flat seam copper roofing, installing a new trough gutter and down spout, installing coping and capping. Chuck was sold me the job and was very knowledgeable and helpful. He invited my wife and I to tour their facility and answered all of our questions and talked us through the process. His roofing team (Justin & Mike) were always prompt, courteous, and friendly. The pride they take in their work really shows. On top of the roofing work they expertly rebuilt the rotted out framing, repaired brick work, and painted my cornice and capping along my roof to match everything. I was extremely happy with the workmanship and the professionalism of the staff. It wasnt a cheap job, but the costs were all laid out for me and explained clearly. I think it was worth every penny for a quality product.

I’ve used Kaller roofing for three different jobs over 10 years. They are always prompt and finish in a timely fashion. The work is excellent quality. It’s difficult to find a good slate roof technician for my random farmhouse style roof. Kaller roofing fixed the roof on our storage shed. We don’t have a basement, so this large storage space was very important to us. I had gotten several other roofing companies to come out and they didn’t want the job. It was complicated because of a back masonry wall issue etc. But when Chuck Keller came out to have a look, I could tell immediately that this was a ‘contractor’s contractor’ kind of a company. Chuck recognized the complexity of the situation, came up with a great plan to fix the issues, was honest and straightforward with me about the price, and even offered to have my husband and I come to his office to discuss further after we had a chance to talk about it. He was always immediately accessible by phone or text and really took the time with us to answer all our questions. The two guys who did he job were excellent. They came at 7am everyday, were never late, were very professional and pleasant, cleaned up well at the end of the day, and finished the job quickly. Chuck checked in along the way with us and them. I will always use them for roofing issues from now until the end of Time! They are worth every penny and your job will be done right the first time.

I could not be more positive about the process from the estimation through complete repair. The estimator, Mr. Chuck Keller, was thorough, clear, and VERY experienced. He was particularly knowledgeable about restoring/repairing complex roofs on old homes in the Mt Airy, Chestnut Hill, East Falls area. Importantly it seems, the wonder, Ray Kaller, does not USE subcontractors to do the work. There is seamless, ongoing, and clear communication between the estimator and the work crew so that the work gets completed according to the scope and detail outlined in the bid. Even Mr. Kaller showed up on site and communicated directly with the work crew. The two crew leads we that worked on our roof, Rich and Carlos, have worked together everyday for more than 20 years. They are a super-skilled and coordinated team, from the grinding work of safely removing old roofing material (we had 100 years’ worth on our roof) down to detailed copper work on chimney flashing and collection boxes. They are incredibly hard working and careful. They were clear, kind, and professional in their communication and have a great sense of humor. It was a pleasure to have them on site. The job involved removing a massive amount of old roofing material, and there was no damage to my home or neighbors in the process. They left the site clean each day. The repair involved careful removing and replacing or old terra-cotta (clay) tiles that can be easily damaged and they did a very careful job. They also procured replacements which are not easy to find. There was clear communication about adjustment to scope and cost as we proceeded. If you have a complicated job and you want a realistic estimate and skilled execution, this most definitely seems like the best group to use. My neighbors and I have used Kaller along with the other major firms that do work in the area. These guys are clearly the best. They are highly competitive in their pricing, particularly in relation to the quality of their work. Satisfied beyond expectation.

We live in a 1920 twin house with a ceramic tile roof (off of an old Wanamaker estate) that the builders had installed on top of the original weathered cedar shingles sometime in the 1960s. It has never leaked, but after 60+ years several tiles were broken or missing from the front dormer. We hired Kaller Roofing to redo the dormer. When they looked at the main roof they realized that those tiles were not really attached to anything either – they had just been nailed through the old, decayed cedar shingles. Rich, Mike, Richie, Carlos and Charlie carefully removed all of the ceramic tiles and cedar shingles on the entire front section of our roof, installed 5/8” plywood, weatherproofing, copper flashing, and reattached all of our original tiles with copper nails. They also had to replace all of the hip tiles on the ridges, and they located used tiles that blended with our old tiles perfectly. It looks beautiful, will easily last another 80 years, and they did no damage to the rest of our tile roof. The whole Kaller crew was polite, respectful, and a pleasure to have working on our house.Lisa & Richard

Kaller replaced some aluminum flashing and one valley with copper on our slate roof where we had a small leak that was apparent in our bathroom. Carlos and the crew did an outstanding job in a little under 2 days. Kaller was able to fit us in between a couple of jobs in our neighborhood which was very much appreciated. We have used them several times for roof upgrades and new gutter installation and have been very pleased with the work. I would certainly use them again if the need arises.

Mike Austin was meticulous in all of the work he did at our home (slate repair and replacement, copper ridge and hip capping, copper vent pipe collars, copper snow guards, etc.), was very professional and always punctual. It is rare these days that someone shows as much care for their craft as Mike. He took the time to make sure things were aligned, symmetrical, true, plumb, etc. both at the roof level and from the street and yard level. He took time to explain things to me when I had questions and was always super nice, careful and courteous. He has a great attention to detail and it is clear that safety is very important to him, which is great to see. He always cleaned up at the end of the day and was very personable. Even the owner Ray came by from time to time to see how things were going and to make sure Kaller was meeting our expectations. I would say Kaller exceeded our expectations and would not hesitate to recommend them to family and friends.

My wife’s dad built our South Ardmore house back in the 1950s. She takes pride in that fact and she takes pride in our home. When we suspected a leak after a recent heavy rain, project manager Chuck came out to do an inspection and told us the roof was fine, but the gutter and downspout system needed to be replaced. We took his advice and gave the go-ahead for the project to upgrade to 6 inch gutters with leaf guards and bigger downspouts.Chuck put us on the schedule and, before long, Mike and Rich started work on the gutter system. They worked hard, were easy to talk to, and answered any question we had along the way. They used the backyard as a staging area and were meticulous about cleaning the work site before going home each day they were there.My wife and I had previously discussed capping and near the end of the gutter project we asked Mike if R. Kaller & Sons did capping work. Mike said yes, and to our delight Chuck said he could shuffle some things around to let the team continue for another couple of days to complete not just the gutter work but the capping we needed also. We signed a change order and they started on the capping work the next day.When they removed old capping on the “A” frame roof over our rental unit’s patio they discovered 3 rotted headers—the result of shoddy work by a previous contractor. It had to be fixed so we signed yet another change order, Mike and Rich removed the damaged wood, came back the next day and repaired the structure and installed new capping.We are totally delighted with this team. The quality of their work, their ability to change gears and adapt to changing requests from us, the customer, and to find solutions to new and unexpected problems along the way has been amazing. It is not an exaggeration to say that we will not let any company other than R. Kaller & Sons work on the roof of our home, rental property, and garage.

These guys are the dream team for any kind of exterior work where you have historical or architectural details to preserve.We live in a 100-year-old house with an original terracotta tile roof that needed new flashing, gutters, copper surface and some exterior restoration. They were able to solve some tricky problems and produced a beautiful finished result that complements the architecture and will last a long time. We couldnt be happier. Their are Roofers and then their are Professional Roofers. R. Kaller and Sons Roofing distinguished themselves as true professionals. Chuck Keller our project manager and his team from start to finish were impressive. These guys are not so called roofers riding around town with ladders and signs on their trucks to look the part that quote you outrageous prices only to do crappy work. What distinguishes these guys is the fact that Chuck writes a detailed description of the work to be completed and then quotes you a very fair price, Theyre not the most expensive or the cheapest but the fairest priced of them all. I certainly didnt feel like I was getting taken for a ride. They insist on using quality materials and craftsmanship. They also are treat your property like it is their own by being very neat and clean. Mike our lead carpenter roofer was a true professional and consummate gentleman. The crew showed up daily before the start or work then worked diligently all day each day for over a week to complete my job. We had additional things found that needed to be fixed and they took care of it with no problem. They made it all look effortless and when they were done the work turned out beautiful. R.Kaller Sons Roofing will definitely be my future choice of professional roofers to not only service my roof but I will refer them to anyone else who needs professional roofing services. R Kaller & Sons just completed a major roof replacement project for us and we are very pleased to highly recommend them. Ray Kaller represents the best of a multi-generational family-run business and his team serves him well. The project included the removal of a cedar shake roof that had prematurely deteriorated well before the guaranteed life expectancy, The Haller team installed the CertainTeed Grand Manor Lifetime roof as a replacement, along with extensive copper flashing, a smaller copper roof system over our kitchen sitting area, and the installation of copper leaf protection system on our existing copper rain gutters.The project duration was seven weeks, during which we observed the professionalism and work ethic of the seven Haller employees assigned to our job. Their meticulous attention to detail and willingness to take the extra steps in safely completing our roof replacement were exemplary. We have had them tear off and install rubber roofing, make slate repairs, install copper coping and valleys, as well as new gutters and downspouts over the past four years. They stand by their work, and will come out repeatedly to make adjustments if needed--no additional charges and no balking about the additional work. Rich, Carlos, Charlie and Clint replaced our entire roof in January 2020. They were very knowledgeable, answered all of our questions, always arrived on time and were a pleasure to have working on our home. We were relatively new residents of 1929 home with a slate roof. The roof needed some slate adjustments and unit replacements, and the chimney flashing needed complete replacement. We also had some crickets installed to prevent future ice damming. The roof had not seen any maintenance in about a decade. Despite having a few other reputable companies out to size up and estimate the job, I want to commend the estimator, Eric, for being the ONLY one to actually go UP on the high roof to make a thorough examination and estimate. (Even if the others just didnt want the job, thanks for being the company to show us your interest in doing the job). Eric gave his opinion on the condition of the roof and from his explanation, I felt certain he really understood our needs as well as the ART and SCIENCE of maintaining a slate roof. As the work moved forward, our expert craftsman Chuck was outstanding. He advised us all along the way about the improvements he was making in order to maximize the restoration and positively kept us on budget. He helped us adjust our work order to get the absolute best results for our budget, without a need for any change orders. The work done is beautiful and thorough. We made the right choice and would, without hesitation, recommend Kaller Roofing to others.

R Kaller & Sons have done 2 jobs for me. They installed new flashing and replaced a number of slate tiles on the mansard roof of our historical property. They also replaced the crown on the chimney. Its not easy to find roofers who can do this very skilled work. They took the time to consult with us on our options and were very fair with pricing. In the summer of 2015, Kaller completely replaced a standing-seam metal roof on my 1867 farmhouse in Chestnut Hill. In 2010, when I lived in East Falls, Kaller replaced many slates and copper flashings at an old row house which was built in the 1920s. Most recently, in the winter of 2016, following the record snow storm which brought 3 feet of snow to Chestnut Hill, Kaller replaced a flat roof over a newer part of our old farmhouse.In all three cases, Ray and his team went above and beyond. We have a difficult roof to work on as it is an unusual type of terracotta tile. It being a flat roof, leaks are often a problem and they were a semi-annual problem for me for several years despite getting other companies out to do repairs. Excellent service and quality work! Kaller just replaced the flat roof of our 1878 Victorian in Riverton, NJ with a coated bituminous membrane and rebuilt and replaced a prominent bay roof with standing seam copper. The existing flat roof had been patched over the course of about 100 years and was leaking into the third floor of our house in a few places. The bay roof had been layered with five “quick and dirty” roofing materials that caused water to well up in a trough gutter and around the bay’s edge. Over a century, water seeped into the outer wall of the bay and rotted the cornice, brackets, and exterior panel elements. (When we bought our house in 2012 we had no idea the bay cornice was held together with paint and patches!) The underlying rot attracted a large number of carpenter ants. When Kaller began work on the bay roof, a corner of the bay’s cornice fell off and ants poured out of it “like coffee.”What might have been a nightmare project wasn’t. Throughout the project, the project’s foreman Mike Austin kept us apprised of what was going on. The project costs were correctly estimated. Mike gave my husband a tour of our flat roof as he was finding damage under all the old roof fixes. Kaller slightly raised the pitch of our bay roof to insure proper water flow and to maximize the spectacular copper roof. All rotted historic elements were replicated on site and all salvageable elements were reinstalled. The result is amazing. I highly recommend Kaller to anyone with a historic house and high standards.

Finding a quality roofer is not an easy task. I expected any number of businesses in the Mainline to be able to work on our slate and flat roofs as a matter of routine. Unfortunately, I was wrong about consistent and durable quality with other companies. Kaller & Sons, in fortunate distinction, repaired and improved our roof to a finished product that works and gives me peace of mind. Lead by Chuck Taylor, his crew of Rich, Carlos, Charlie, and Christian provided first-rate service. They are professional, they are knowledgeable, and best of all, they are capable. It was a complicated project with main slate roof repairs, replacing roofs on porches and extensive built in box gutters that were rebuilt and lined with copper. Communication with the whole team was prompt and seamless. We were kept informed of any changes as subsurface problems were discovered. The team on site, Richie, Carlos, Charlie and Christian, were outstanding. Kaller Roofing sets a very high standard. They use quality materials and old-school techniques to expertly construct long-lasting roofs.Our first experience was with their sales rep Chuck Keller, no relation to Ray Kaller, the owner of the business. Chuck has been with Kaller for many years, was patient and thoughtful, going over the options available - color and style of roofing materials, gutter, downspouts and skylight replacements. Chuck made great suggestions as to color and helped design a different configuration for the new downspouts so heavy downpours would be more evenly distributed.There were also a number of decisions that were made during the job. To our surprise, Mr. Kaller made a few visits to our house to discuss options. We had two different crews, one for the shingled roof itself and another for the metal roof sections, raised seam (metal) and a copper bay section as well. Both teams were really conscientious; they were professional and focused, personable and turned out beautiful work.What made our experience with Kaller Roofing so exceptional? We are repeat customers, having repaired a leak around our chimney by installing a cricket. Look up the description of that technique. Not many roofers seem to even consider it, but it was a great solution for us.Then, this summer, a few years later after the roof repair, we replaced the rest of the roof. We waited months for Kaller’s workmen to arrive and were thrilled when told they’d start. They are not going to be your lowest priced estimate. But you get what you pay for. Incredible job!!! Its easy to see why theyre so highly recommended. Well worth the money. We had some damage to our slate roof this past winter which resulted in some cracked/missing slates. Our flashings and gutter were also in pretty bad shape too. We called Chuck at Kaller Roofing and he was by far the nicest and most knowledgeable out of any of the contractors we contacted. He answered all of our questions and explained the process to us in thorough detail. We ultimately chose him and we couldnt be happier that we did. The level of quality and attention to detail in their workmanship has our slate roof, copper flashing, and gutter looking better than ever before. During the job, the workers were all very polite, friendly, and made sure to leave our house as clean as it was when they got there after they left each day. I have had a couple of small jobs done by Kaller Roofing and last year had the roofs replaced on my home and garage by them. I have been very satisfied with all of their work. They are particularly good with working with copper both small roofs and flashing. Eric and his team - Carlos, Jose and Rich - did a wonderful job on my roof. Excellent communication every day in what was going to happen. They cleaned up every day. Great guys to work with. One thing I was impressed with was the way they kept in mind how the finished roof was going to look on my home when they were done. I also cant say enough about Mike their carpenter who essentially rebuilt five of my dormers replacing rotted wood and making them look like they would have when they were built over 100 years ago. I have recommended them to other people in my neighborhood.

We are located on the edge of Valley Forge National Historic Park and live in a 250+ year old house. We had Kaller Roofing rebuild our copper cornice gutters and install a metal roof over a porch. I first want to say that we are extremely pleased with the quality of the workmanship provided ! Everyone on site we experts at what they did.As good as the end product was, we were even more pleased with the “journey” of the repair. As I said, this was a rebuild project. Kaller Roofing first did an extensive investigation and assessment of the situation and explained in detail (complete with numerous pictures) the visible repairs needed and the cost. More importantly, they also explained the hidden damage and costs which we might encounter once things were opened up. All work was done on a time and materials basis due to the uncertainty of the effort needed. As the job progressed, there was some hidden damage but neither the damage nor the cost was a surprise. The hidden damage was explained and documented with pictures and the needed repairs were detailed. All work was within the possible scope and costs explained prior to the start of work.Workmanship was first rate, the crew was polite and the jobsite kept clean and safe. We recommend Kaller roofing without hesitation!

The team, led by Mike Austin, were on time every day and worked very hard... cleaning up at the end of each day. We never had to worry about nails in the driveway or clutter. Since we purchased our house with a slate roof 8 1/2 years ago, we have hired several different roofers and our experiences have been mixed (some good, many not so good). Friends of ours had a good experience with Kaller last year and referred us to them. Ray made himself available to visit our home promptly and was able to identify the source of problem and a solution which made sense. Once the work was ready to be scheduled, Kaller was accommodative from a logistical standpoint. While the work was being done, the foreman and his fellow employee were quiet, polite, efficient and methodical. The job was completed within the projected time frame (actually earlier) and the workers were good about reaching out about a recommended addition to the work. I would definitely recommend Kaller to others.

Kaller upgraded two sections of roofing for us in July/Aug2015 and did a great job. When installing the new rolled roofing, they actually removed, and later reinstalled, clapboards to run the roofing underneath, thereby insuring that water entry would be impossible. The second section is a unique copper basin that we see every day from our stairs. Eric made an excellent suggestion regarding adding a downspout to keep this section of roofing independent of the others in case the others become clogged from ice, leaves, etc. Chuck Beishl did outstanding work on this job. I would like to highlight two dimensions of Chucks craftsmanship: First was the attention to the technical details. For example, installing a plywood underlay to make sure his fastenings had something to bite into and using screws when appropriate for longevity. The second is the esthetics of his work. All of the copper seams line up in a manner that is extremely pleasing to the eye, all are neat, all uniform. He has certainly competed many jobs by now, but we see and appreciate his work daily. So, I can highly recommend Kaller roofing and in particular for any difficult cases.

After years of struggles with the several different roofing companies, we have been really impressed with Kaller Roofing. They well deserved 5 stars and above! Our home is a historic residence with a challenging roof counting turrets, flat and steep levels and Italian terracotta tiles. Kaller Roofing was the only company that provided a serious estimate documented with photos. Kallers work addressed and finally fixed all the issues we were having for years. Worth to mention also the quality of Kaller staff and crew. Receptionists were extremely helpful and always a pleasure to talk to, the crew was extremely professional with a top quality work in all aspects: punctuality, courtesy, attention to details and communication. Crew worked on subzero temperature from 7am till late afternoon; they constantly documented what was happing in the roof with pictures before/during/after; finally they cleaned perfectly (including removing BBQ and outdoor furnitures during the work and recollocating everything at the exact place before they left. They even hooked back the BBQ natural gas pipe line for me to be able to use it. What a wonderful surprise!) Top quality!

We have a house in Center City, and a leaky roof deck. It was newly installed by another roofer, and they came out repeatedly but couldnt stop the leak. So I bit the bullet, and hired Kaller Roofing to rip out the old deck and install a new one. They found shoddy work done previously, and once the new deck went in - the roof deck no longer leaked. We have a very small issue with a small patch of the roof deck and they came out quickly to figure out how to fix it. We were so pleased, that when another roof was damaged (due to a bad installation of a satellite dish), we went back to Kaller Roofing to fix the problem.

New Roof for my 1930 house -I would like to thank Kaller Roofing for the great job they did replacing my roof. Mike, Richy, and Carlos worked very hard and did everything that the Project Manager, Chuck had scoped out for the project.I wanted a quality job and they accomplished that goal - They used rain and ice shield beyond the minimum requirements, installed copper flashing, screwed down existing loose plywood sheathing, fixed a rotting dormer, and provided sheathing over a porch that did not have any. The site was thoroughly cleaned after the project was completed. I paid up for the top of line asphalt shingles and they really have a shake like quality to them. I am an Architect and the thicker shingle makes a big difference.I asked Mike (job foreman) a lot of questions and he answered them all.Ed Cizek

The short version of this review is that the roofers from Kaller who worked on our roof (Carlos, Rich, Charlie, and Angel) were professional, knowledgeable, courteous, communicative, prompt, and neat (as one can be when working three stories up).They took very good care of our 100-year-old slate roof.The longer version: We recently bought a 100-year old house with a slate roof, and we wanted to have the roof looked at to see what condition it was in and what maintenance it may have needed. We called Kaller because they were recommended by a neighbor, and we also called two other roofing companies. We chose Kaller because their Project Manager, Chuck, who came out to examine the roof, seemed very knowledgeable and was NOT a high-pressure salesman. The most visible issue at first was rusted valleys, a lack of some ridge caps, and some damaged slate. As they started working, they also found some corroded flashing and damaged siding in spots. The things they found once they started work did result in the project getting more expansive (and more expensive), but it was handled very well. They took pictures of the damage they found, so we didnt have to trust them that some additional work was needed---it was obvious from the pictures that there were problems, even to a layman. We had the choice as to whether we wanted to include the additional work. When we agreed, they gave us a change order with the price additions clearly listed that we had to sign before the additional work was done, so there were no surprises as to the final costs.Their workday was from 7-3, and they showed up on time every day, and worked a full day every day. One day, they stayed late to ensure they could get the project done before a forecasted snow storm. The project work started before Christmas and ended after the New Year, which wasnt ideal, but the company was willing to change their work schedule to accommodate our wishes (we were having an overnight guest and did not want them working on certain days).Because our house has almost no insulation, we could hear them working and talking outside through the walls and windows. Never once did we hear any foul or insulting language from any member of the crew. We are very appreciative of that.They cleaned up the debris each day at the end of work, and did a very thorough job cleaning up at the end. We went out to inspect our driveway for nails and other sharp debris before we brought our vehicles back, and we did not find a single nail.Finally, the work they did looks fantastic! More importantly, we feel that it will go a long ways toward protecting our home from the elements long into the future. We would recommend them for roofing work, especially if you have an old slate roof. They know their stuff.

Also didnt have to deal with loud music, foul language, etc. Many roofing companies will tell you that they do slate, but when the job is finished, its apparent that, no, they dont.5 ***** !
