    I had a great experience with my attic addition through Canter! I added two adjoining rooms, one for music and one for a home theater. Jonah did a great job with the initial design and Peter did a great job managing the project! There were some bumps along the way (there always is) but the outcome was even better than I had imagined! I could not recommend Canter more highly!

    Canter Construction did an amazing job on our kitchen remodel! Since we moved into our home, we have dreamed of removing two walls to open up our kitchen.Jonah was super responsive and clear about their process and the timeline. You can tell he is invested in each project that they take on. Their vendors were also really easy to work with.Levi was a great project manager and in constant communication with us as the project progressed. If we had questions, he was quick to get back to us with answers. I was pregnant and our due date was around the time that the project finished; Both Jonah and Levi were really mindful of our timeline and getting the work completed by the time the baby came. We would highly recommend Canter Construction and hope to use them for future projects!

    Jonah, Peter and their team built a golf cart garage, deck and did some driveway modifications for me. The entire process went smoothly and was accomplished professionally from start to finish. I couldnt be happier. I submitted 5 requests for bids, and they were one of two to respond to my request. The second response was not a serious proposal. Many contractors with whom Ive dealt in the past did not communicate their status well or the quality was not up to my standards. However, these guys kept me informed every step of the way and did a spectacular job on my project. Great experience and craftsmanship. I highly recommend Canter Construction for your next project

    Canter just finished our dream master bathroom and we couldn’t be more pleased. Our house was built in 1977 and the bathroom desperately needed updating. They worked with our ideas and made it happened. Peter was always on time, efficient, responsive, and detail oriented. He had a better eye for design than we did. He was good about checking in each day to make sure the job was going smoothly. They were flexible yet diligent to ensure jobs were completed on time. The master bathroom is now the mini-spa we dreamed of...We are so happy with the outcome that we hired them to update the guest bathroom. We highly recommend Canter Construction for any remodeling or updating you have in mind.

    Jonah does a great job organizing a bathroom remodel. We had tile, grout, and other items already picked out and in our garage. Jonah was very quick to get us an itemized quote. Jonah let me know before the start that he does not work on the weekends or in the evenings. I appreciated him telling me that up front, and didnt mind waiting for a response. He accomplished exactly what we asked of him. When the tiles guys made a mistake he was quick to correct it.

    Overall, I had a great experience working with Jonah at Canter. Canter was referred to me by a good friend that had a bathroom remodeled and was very happy with the results. I had to have some wood flooring replaced and structural repairs made in the crawlspace before I could list my house for sale. All of the repairs were done to the buyers satisfaction within the timeframe for closing. All in all it was a great success and I will use Canter again without hesitation.

    We worked with Canter to remove the interior walls in the main living area of our James Island home. The process of working with Jonah and Peter was great. The crews working in our home were very respectful of our belongings and understanding of the fact that we were both working and living in the home at the time the work. The work was completed start to finish with little to no stops in the schedule. They even accommodated some additional scope we added along the way without any delays. I would highly recommend working with Canter to anyone looking for a contractor who will get the job done and communicate with you in a transparent manner throughout.

    100% Recommend for so many reasons. The 2 most important pieces were the quality of the work (Peter was amazing) and the communication at all levels (Jonah and Peter). The value of the work completed was more than anticipated and at every turn, Canter and Team did the right thing. We had a large group coming for the Holidays and they promised, even though supply issues are tight, that the work would be completed, which it was. We are completely satisfied with what they did, how professional they were, and how smoothly everything went. If you are wrestling with which contractor to use, I would stop here and make your decision to move forward with Jonah and his team of experts.

    Jonah and Pete are great. I had them install a new sliding glass door and replace the railings on my deck. They put me in touch with Buck Lumber to get the door and handled the installation. The door looks great, as do the railings, but the best part was it was all done in one day. I left, they were working, and I came home, and it was all done. It was such a pleasant surprise, and well worth the money. Will be using them for any future projects.

    Canter did a great job building a fence blind to hide our pool equipment. From the start, Jonah was very quick to respond, provided us a quote within a day, and got us on the schedule very quickly. The crew that did the work did a great job and finished the job that same day so we could avoid potential bad weather the next day. Well definitely contact them for any future projects we may need!

    Absolute best experience we have ever had with a contractor. My wife and I have owned three homes and have done work on all of them so we are no stranger in dealing with contractors. While price was a consideration we decided to pick who we thought would do the best job, but even so Canter came in at a very reasonable price. They were so easy to work with as they let us do some of the finish work to save us money. His crew as unbelievably professional, showed up on time, and completed the work on time as well. My wife designed the deck and we are not architects so they also helped to make some changes that worked great. The last and most important thing we appreciated was how over built the deck is, all the cuts are straight and clean, it could not look or feel more solid. Cannot recommend these guys enough and would not dream of using anyone else. Honestly we have no relationship with this company before hand and I am not normally the type to take the time to leave reviews, but these guys really are the best in the business, they should be your first choice if looking to have any work done!

    Jonah and his contractors did a wonderful job on our primary bathroom renovation. From the first site visit to the final walk through, the Canter crews were respectful and helpful with all of our questions and concerns.     I recently worked with the Canter Construction team to remodel my master bath and laundry room. Going into the project, I had very low expectations of how it smoothly would go based on my experiences with a number of other contractors over the years... but I was more than pleasantly surprised.The work itself from start to finish was performed impeccably. Communication with Jonah and his team was great. If a call from me wasnt answered it was returned right away. Emails were also returned in a timely manner. Jonah has a positive, get-the-job-done attitude infused with a smile and a sense of humor. Overall very pleasant to deal with!All in all, I couldnt be happier with my new master bath and laundry and am going to be working with Canter aConstruction on a screen porch addition in the new year!!

    Yall! Jonah and his team are literally the BEST. As an Interior Designer, it’s hard to find someone who you can really trust with your projects but jonah and Levi knocked it out of the park. They moved a wall, re-did our entire master bathroom and kitchen, as well as re-staining the floors in our whole house. Jonah completely understood my vision and made the process so easy and fun for my husband and I. His team is so funny and personable, which made this so enjoyable for us.     Jonah took real good care of our needs; first of all, he was quick to respond to our initial inquiry. He scheduled to come out to our place within a day. We had a quote shortly thereafter & got to working on permits immediately. We selected Canter due to competitive pricing, but after seeing so many quality reviews, and satisfied homeowners - really it was a no brainer. We installed 2 windows (1 addition in living room alongside already existing double windows; and 1 upstairs in bedroom). It looks fantastic. Great carpentry, paint matches perfect, (interior & exterior). You cannot tell the downstairs bit was not included in the original double cluster, now with three windows alongside each other. It looks completely original, like the home was built with 3 rather than the original 2. Plus, so much more light shining in to give us much more appealing views. If/when we do other modifications, wont hesitate to go with Canter Construction! They kept us posted ahead of time on everything, and gave us what we wanted.

    Jonah and his crew did a great job! They build a deck off a bedroom, which meant replacing 2 windows with a French door and it looks absolutely fabulous! Our house is made of brick and they were able to match the brick/grout perfectly. The deck’s craftsmanship is beautiful, with the finishes going above my expectations.     Canter Construction has far exceeded my expectations as to what I thought the experience of what working with a contractor would resemble. Jonahs passion for his work was evident from our first interaction. I called several contractors to get an estimate for a major remodel project on a house we were considering; Jonah was the first and the fasted to get back to me. He was ready to discuss our plans for the house remodel within a couple of days onsite and he really seemed to be genuinely interested in understanding our vision for the house. He gave us a realistic estimate for the project and unlike the contractors on HGTV his estimate was pretty close to the actual bottom line. Jonah is instantly likable and we felt very comfortable using his suggestions for small details/decisions that stumped us as we were designing the house. Jonah is also reliable, when he says the project will be done on time he gets it done. Should we ever have another project requiring a contractor Canter Construction will always be my first choice. I can honestly say that this the happiest I have ever been with all the houses I have owned and I credit a great deal of that to Jonah and Canter Construction.

    After buying a home in Mt Pleasant, SC my wife and I wanted to do a few minor repairs, some painting and one change requiring some drywall and restructuring.     Canter Construction did a great job repairing my second floor ceiling. We had roof damage during Hurricane Matthew and subsequent leaking issues that made a mess of the drywall and paint on my second floor. Jonah was extremely responsive to my inquiry for a quote and provided me a very reasonable price for the repair. Wes and Hunter showed up on time, were friendly, worked hard to get the ceilings repaired and looking good again. I highly recommend Canter Construction services and will be working with them in the future on other projects to my home.

    I have used Canter Construction for a couple of my larger projects. They installed insulation and drywall for me in some new construction as well as rebuilding a porch on an old Charleston home. I enjoy working with them and they do very high quality work. They went above and beyond to help us restore our old porch to its original glory, including replicating the railing details that were lost from the original 1936 design. They are also very detail oriented and made sure the materials used were grade A, returning lumber that was bent, had rough sides or bark on corners. Since I have an old home I am sure I will call Canter again in the future.

    How do you hire someone for a complete renovation when you are living 11 hours away in another state and cant oversee ANYTHING?!?! Well, just hire Jonah Canter - and then sit back and just dont worry. 100% communication, GREAT job, a lot of ideas and suggestions offered. ALWAYS listened to what I needed and called if he thought I should know something. Sent pictures via email and text of the progress, was obviously excited for my project. Jonahs staff was INCREDIBLE. Pete was awesome, the painter Vincent is the sweetest man on earth- everyone. I moved to Chareston about a week before the project was almost complete... I could not be more pleased with the outcome AND the experience. If you are looking for someone you can trust and take a lot of the stress away look no further.     Had a great experience with both Jonah (owner) and his crew. Jonah is easily accessible, and he is always quick to get back with you. Extremely personable and professional staff. I had them come out to do some patch work on our hardwood floors (which we thought would be impossible since the manufacturer doesnt make the flooring anymore). They were not only able to work with this challenge, but they also did a great job. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing work done in their house.     We contracted with Jonah to handle the remodeling of our master bath. As we are in DC and the property is in SC, we werent sure how the process would play out. Jonah could not have been more professional, responsive, or accommodating throughout the entire process. He finished the job on time, on budget, and with great communication throughout.; The quality of the work was exemplary and he also addressed some shoddy work by a contractor prior to our purchase of the property for free. The tile that was in the bathroom had been discontinued and Jonah needed to match new tile to the old. The resultant work flowed nicely and looked deliberate, rather than concessionary. He also assisted with a few odds and ends we asked for his help with at a very reasonable cost. We would absolutely hire Jonah again for any size project and heartily endorse him!

    We have used Canter Construction on numerous occasions for our house on James Island, both when we lived in it and now that it is our rental property. Each time that we have called Jonah or Wes (for minor demolition, painting, drywall repair, roofing repair, etc), they each have gone above and beyond in terms of quality and professionalism. Besides their quality in workmanship being unparalleled, I also enjoy their promptness in responding to a new job. The typical turnaround for a written estime (which gets emailed to me- amazing) is quicker than any of the other contractors that weve worked with in the past. Wes and Jonah were recommended to us by a friend and it continues to be a great recommendation.

    I know most people don’t care to read lengthy reviews, so I’ll sum up the experience in a sentence or two, and then you can read on if you’d care to get a bigger picture. Jonah (who was very communicative throughout the entire job) was on-time for all our meetings, came in on budget from the initial quote, and completed the job in the time frame promised – we really couldn’t have asked for a better experience.We had a couple of vinyl windows that had begun to warp and would no longer lock etc., so we contacted Jonah to get a quote to replace all four windows on the south side of the house. Jonah arrived right on time for our initial meeting, and took time to explain why the warping had happened (lower end builder grade windows) and what he’d recommend as a remedy for the issue. He was upbeat and clearly knowledgeable about what needed to be done, so In the end we wound up having Jonah quote us to replace all of the windows. There was no pressure on his part to do so, but we knew they’d all need to be done within the next few years, as we quickly realized during our first summer the original windows were far from energy efficient. Jonah said we’d have the quote by the end of the week, and by Thursday we had an email with a link to the quote. I have to say this was a great way of having an electronic record of the quote, and you can communicate back and forth easily about updates etc. The quote itself was very fair (from a labor perspective), and he’d given us an allowance based on each window size. We decided to move forward and per Jonah’s instruction we contacted his rep at Buck Lumber to setup an appointment to choose the actual windows (as a side note, I’d recommend Buck as well – great selection, knowledgeable staff, and delivery was exactly when they promised.)Jonah made it a point to be there when the Buck Lumber rep came to do the final measurements (which I thought was a great idea to avoid any miscommunication, as these were all special order windows.) A couple of weeks later Jonah circled back to say the windows were in, so we made arrangements for them to be delivered and schedule out the install. Jonah scheduled the install for within a week of the windows being delivered, and had them all installed within a couple of days. There were a couple of small curve balls once the original windows were removed, but Jonah and his crew handled the (framing) issues easily and at a very nominal charge – which was mostly for materials. They also did a great job with patching and painting the frames, and cleaned up as they went along. Our final bill came in right on budget and we couldn’t be happier with the overall experience. Highly recommended.

Its not easy to earn a lot of 5 star reviews, so I was impressed with the amount Jonah had received over the years and spent some time reading the reviews to get a sense of the general work performed and any specific comments people had. I called the Canter Construction office and reached someone that suggested I send an email with all the details of my project, so someone could get back to me. After no response 8 days - as a result I thought this was a terrible first impression.... but I figured I would call another time and find out what the deal was. I called and Jonah answered the phone. I explained that I was waiting for a response, but after a bit of checking, it became clear that sent the email to the wrong address and Jonah did not receive it! So I resent the email and had a meeting the very next day. I spoke to two other general contractors in addition to Canter Construction. Each had a different approach such as Permits/no permits, using sub-contractors or a hybrid of subs and GC doing the work, and finally 1 guy that does all (electrical, plumbing, tile, kitchen cabinet install, etc.. Which actually made it difficult to make a decision. After some thought I decided that I liked Jonahs approach to doing business which included all skilled sub contractors and pulling permits. Additionally, I also appreciated his payment structure - I did not have to pay a huge sum of money to get started which made me feel better about the process. There was never any run around or excuses. Jonah and our project manager - Peter were always clear in their communication throughout the renovation and owned up to any issues or confusion that may have arisen and they made sure I was happy with the results. If youre looking for a GC for your project... Do yourself a favor and have a conversation with Jonah before you make your final decision.

    Canter Construction completed the build of a new Mantle and shiplap on the primary wall of the living room in our new home. The contractors that work for Canter are true professionals and pay exceptional attention to detail. We couldnt be happier with the end result and will be using Canter Construction for many projects in the future.

    Having been raised by an architect and spent my life around contractors, I have very high expectations my home. I was shocked when Jonah came to give us a quote for our bathroom remodel the same day I e-mailed him. He provided a reasonable estimate, was willing to take on our project while we were out of the country and spent time with my husband and I to learn our expectations for the job.Then, in the midst of our bathroom remodel, while my husband and I were in New Zealand, our water heater bust, flooding our mudroom. Jonah and Peter quickly switched gears and no questions asked, moved out our entire mudroom, quickly removed the carpet, dehumidified the room and replaced our water heater. I dont know what we would have done without them!Once that was done, they moved back to the bathroom and gave us an amazing product. They fixed things that I raised concerns about and brought our vision to life. Big thumbs up for Jonah, Peter and Canter Construction.

    Jonah and Wes really know their craft. I am a designer in Charleston and worked with them on a couple projects that have been nothing but amazing. Will use them the next time I have a remodel to do. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
